Howdy. Did anyone else notice that today when we were supposed to get the Marvel Fairy Tales #3 with a Gambit /Rogue story, they sent us the number 4 story instead? It still said issue 3 on it, but it was the #4 story. Where's my Gambit/Rogue?!    Each story was a stand alone story, you didn't have to get the whole series, so I only ordered the #3 becuase it had Gambit in it. What a rip.

Okay, Gambit is above-and-beyond my favorite X-Man character. Only thing is...

<rant>...he's just too cool for his own good - I mean, unless you've got a real knack for writing kick-ass dialogue (like the "...so I says to my man Thibaudeaux...you gettin' all dis, homme?" classic Remy situation), it's pretty near impossible to write stuff like that all the time. No wonder out of all the current stable of Marvel writers, pretty much only a few like Claremont (creator) and Niceza have expressed any interest in writing Gambit favorably recently. And as for the drama, it's what great storytelling is about...but how many times can you manufacture different angst-laden scenarios before it becomes a parody of itself? A person can only be tragic for so long, and the only reason this works for Gambit as a character is because of his unique backstory/history and humorous or "suave" moments that break up the drama and make him so likeable.</rant>

And I'm not sure if this has been posted at SuperHeroHype before, but I'd like to share this utterly hilarious complaint/parody of the current situation at Marvel regarding Gambit. I can't claim credit for writing this, as it was written by Stone*Man from the Gambit Guild forums, but it's worth a chuckle and I think it belongs in this thread:

And finally, I'd like to ask - what the hell happened to the Gambit Guild (home of the LeBeau Library) forums?! Almost 7 years as one of the best Remy resources on the web, and it just disappears without any warning. If anyone has any information on what happened, I'd appreciate if you could give me a heads-up. Thanks!

That was the funniest thing i have read in a while:D

I'm more a fan of the nonchalant thief, who occasionally looks back at his past dealings and reflects on his wrong doings. I'm not a huge fan of the Scott Lobdell brooding Gambit. I'm even less a fan of the agent of Apocalypse Gambit (Death). It seems like Marvel doesn't quite know what to really do with some of my favorite X-MEN characters: Gambit (my favorite non-fiction character, period), Psylocke, and Iceman. It's a real shame.

I was unaware that Carey seemed to have an interest in incorporating Gambit into his X-MEN stories. Must be the coat.

Carey did say Gambit will show up (quite a number of times) either in the next arc or after #200. He'll only be interracting with Rogue, it's probably going to be just a guest appearance. But yeah, he did say he's considering using him further somewhere down the line.

Has he written Gambit before? Does he write a good Gambit?

No, but he'll show up at some point during his run. I don't know how he'll do that considering his situation at the moment. If he writes him well, then the guy's a genious.

You see, the way I figure it, Gambit is probably THE Love/Hate character of the X-Men, possibly second to Storm or Jean.

I don't know, do you think it's really fair or accurate to single out Gambit, Storm, and Jean as THE characters that most polarize fan reaction? One could argue that Wolverine, Cyclops, and Rogue get the same response from endearingly X-obsessed geeks like ourselves. More importantly is WHY, 'cause I think those six are probably the most prevalent, if not the most popular. Therefore, THEY get talked about ALOT, and fans get VERY vocal when discussing their opinions concerning them. It's logical really, the bigger characters have higher visibility throughout multiple media outlets, which in turn incites stronger feelings in MORE people. Even Jubilee has her share of lovers and haters, you just don't here about it as much. ;)

Or then again, maybe I just got defensive when you isolated Jean, Remy, and Ororo as examples. 'Cause ironically enough, they happen to be my top three faves and I must confess, it does bother me a little when other fans hate on them so vehemently. :(

^i love those 3, i hated movie storm :D lol just thought i should share :)

I was on the alpha or omega thread(same author, cant remember which) and they were disscussing that gambit is an omega level mutant because of his powers went haywire so he went to sinsiter who cut a piece of his brain so he could only affect inorganic matter.

yes that is true :) i don't remember the inorganic part though.

I thought the operation just reduced his power levels in general. :)

Now this is my kinda thread. White wale, Gambit should definitely be written as the flashy nonchalant charming thief. He should the type of character that walks the line between good and bad. To the point where your not completely sure who's side he's on. I like that potential spy thing he has going on, the potential betrayel yet because of his charming attitude and his charisma he is able to win you over.

The writers messed that up. Now all Gambit is is Rogue whiny (ex)boyfriend. Where's the charm? the mysteriousness? the flash? the womanizing? the gambling? the devil-may-care attitude? Heck where's the smoking? He's gone soft. And not only has he been treated like crap in the comics, the movies just flat out ignored him. X-men seriously needs a good writer. I liked Gambit best when Claremont wrote X-men in the Jim Lee days. Besides the fact that Jim Lee draws the best Gambit, he was so bad ass back then.
I don't know what to add to that. My thoughts EXACTLY.:)

Hmmm. Sounds exactly like the kind of Gambit that I'd rather not see. Why is it that writers feel the need to write about characters they obviously do not like? It just makes you dislike the writer. I am sick of seing Gambit interact with Rogue. Its exactly why nobody wants to read or hear about him anymore.

I'm of two minds on all of this. On one hand, I think it makes total sense why he would love Rogue, the ultimate unattainable prize. On the other hand, I think they've mellowed him out way too much, and we need a return to the hard-lovin', charming, womanizing Gambit of Jim Lee's time.

Sounds like quack science. Perhap a lobotomy would have been more effective. :down

I dont really like that idea much

I like Vulcan myself. He's very dynamic. But I also liked the idea of Gambit being another brother or half brother at least. I would have found it easy to swallow that Corsair had had an affair with someone and Remy was the result of that. It's so much better than him being Sinster's clone. :o

*chills at the clone theory*

I say they make up his history and introduce some knew character in the spin. A villain even Sinister would be afraid of .

It would be interesting IMO to have his father be something like that.

and he should come from a rich family, it would be better for him than for Wolverine. A nice Contrast for a thief coming from a highclass prestige bloodline.

It would have been so much better if Sinister was his biological dad, meaning that he actually had sex with a woman and she gave birth to Remy. Seriously a clone of Sinister? Who the hell gave the green light on that one?
And i'm glad he isn't the third Summers brother. He is nothing like Cyclops or Havok.
