I don't see how it could work on for eg a PS5. A lot of the games are still 3rd party so why would Sony want someone putting a service on their console that takes away something from what they could be getting themselves. Gamepass works when there is tonnes of exclusive content or when it is a service provided by the console owner itself. Netflix isn't a service that is appearing on for eg a device dedicated to Amazon Prime or Disney Plus like Gamepass on a PlayStation would be. Sony would already have access to all the 3rd party games and wouldn't want someone else controlling access to those.yeah. as shows like Stranger Things prove, quality exclusive content sells. Which is why MS/Xbox needs a strong lineup of quality exclusive franchises.
Theoretically, if Gamepass really takes off, MS could just go the way of Netflix and become platform neutral, meaning Gamepass is on other consoles and devices. That's my fear, and I hope it doesn't turn out that way, because Xbox still has a hardware history associated with it.
Or, they could use the success of Gamepass to sell Xbox consoles by making Gamepass an exclusive Xbox feature. If you want to enjoy all the benefits and exclusive content first, you need Gamepass - only on Xbox. That's what they need to market.
