Have patience,if really want to see a film you should not wait for a review. The lack of reviews is very telling. I'm sorry guys but I'm off of the GL train, I'm not expecting a good movie now.
I'll still probably see it but I'm expecting it to be mediocre or bad.
Anyone else annoyed by the fanboy paranoia surrounding this film?

Ryan Reynolds is the only reason to watch Green Lantern. The movie was not bad at all. If you're going to see it, finish the credits

Well that is reasonable enough.
I just feel that fans unjustly feel the need to blindly support movies based on their favourite characters, as if they owed it to the studio and themselves.
I dont think Green Lantern is as emotional complex as Batman so the movies will be very different. This is going to be much more in tone of the first Spider-man. It's an origin movie and im sure it is going to be very similar to Secret Origins just by what I know from the movie and having read the script. The complex stuff happens AFTER the origin. Sinestro turning evil, other green lanterns, destruction of Coast City, etc...I don't think that Time Out review is as bad as people are making it sound.
The reviewer doesn't like the Earth scenes, the human drama, and wanted to see more of the GL action in space.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Earth stuff isn't as exciting, or the human drama element doesn't work as well. That could be something that needs to be worked on for a sequel, or we may be done with that and it goes straight into the space stuff with Sinestro and Carol/Star Sapphire the next time.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Carol Ferris character isn't very drawn out in the movie, and if Hector Hammond is considered too odd to those unfamiliar with the comics. As a fan, I'll probably enjoy those aspects more.
I am not expecting the drama to be as successful as what Nolan did with Batman, because he really took all that very seriously and focused on that. GL has a lot to do and certain aspects may be given short shrift.

ugh, i dont know why this is so hard to understand: all movies, particularly major movies, have embargos on reviews! whenever critics go to a screening, they are instructed that they are not allowed to post reviews until a certain date, and that certain date is most often a few days prior to release. this has nothing to do with the studios concern of the films quality. it is standard procedure.
if you see official reviews from critics weeks before a movies release, it means they broke the embargo and run the risk of not being invited to future screenings. the studios want the reviews to be released close to the films release so it is all fresh in the mind of the audience.
Green Lantern is going to be in 3D so thats a HUGE plus to me.
YES! In fact, I think its quite the opposite. The studio has a lot of FAITH in this movie.
I thought Your Highness was freaking hilarious and a good movie and it has a 25% RT Score. So I don't care what it scores. I'm seeing this sucker.
You are correct about the fanboy effect Bubonic.
Listen I hope that my new found leeriness is wrong and I walk out of the movie enjoying it. I don't wish for movies to be bad...ever.
And Mace, I said that I'm more likely than not seeing the film. I said that I wasn't going to see Thor and First Class and I saw them. I almost always go to see these Superhero films.
People in this board are overreacting. I dont give a **** about what other people think of any movie. People praised First Class and gave it 5 stars and I thought it wasnt THAT good. X2 was way better, imo. Thor I really liked. The only movie so far I agree with the majority is Hangover 2 because it really sucked. I mean, it was funny and all but too much like the first.
You're about 1/2 correct. Yes all movies have an embargo. The embargo is selectively enforced. The studio gets to parse the reviews, so they know if they will be bad or good. If the reviews are good, they usually don't enforce the embargo, because it's free advertising.
It's very unusual for a studio to enforce the embargo this late.
Make no mistake they are doing this, because they have statistics letting them know what kind of numbers to expect, and they don't want a huge drop off.
I think audiences need to be leery, especially with prices these days, one movie ticket get up near twenty bucks and you can add another fifteen if you get concessions. It is ridiculous to blindly flock and turn our pockets inside out for unworthy movies.
Did you like Thor and X:FC?

Very few of us are blindly supporting anything. Its just that people are getting whiny over...basically nothing, when what little reactions we've seen of the flick so far have been positive to mixed. People are getting hot and bothered cause there havent been a ton of reviews yet.
my point is, its NOT unusual. if studios are comfortable with letting early reviews slide because they're getting a good response, thats cool. it happens, no doubt. but just because they dont lift the embargo early, doesnt mean the film isnt getting a good response. so far, everything to do with this embargo is entirely standard. You have to admit that holding it until 2 days before is unusual. There were Thor and First Class reviews plenty early. The word on Avatar was so overwhelmingly positive that Fox lifted the embargo early. People have seen this one and they're not letting it out just yet. I'm not saying one way or the other what that means, just that I won't be surprised if the reviews aren't as sterling as WB would have hoped. I'm still rooting for it.
I for one thought Thor was better than First Class as entertainment value. I just had more fun watching it. I had a huge problem with First Class which was in a movie about racism and differences, they kill the only black guy in it. Im not black but that was very weird to me and made no sense whatsoever. The character didnt need to die at all.
Thor: 6.5/10
X-Men First Class: 9/10
So I didn't dislike any of them although Thor is on thin ice.
EDIT:
For good measure:
Green Hornet: 7.5/10
