at this point, I'm really just hoping it entertains me

a few laughs and some good action scenes

Too early to call this a dud yet?

I'd say no but I'm sure many would still like to believe otherwise. Heck I wanted for this movie to be great and did like the Oa scenes but apparently that wasn't enough or just didn't resonate at all due to multiple issues seemingly.

X-Men: First Class and CA:TFA are the one's I was hoping and expecting to be the best of the bunch in terms of SH movies. X-Men met my expectations and then some while the other remains to be seen although I still hold my intuition that it'll be the second most well received SH movie of the year.

The one's I was most skeptical about were Thor and GL and Thor personally proved me wrong in thinking it was going to just be ok, and it actually turned out to be quite a sweet and well acted film with pretty great inspired visuals for the most part. I had GL over it but it's starting to look more apparent that isn't the case.

Very disappointing indeed. Still going to watch GL but these reviews aren't looking to promising at all.

So...Thor got good reviews, and did moderately in the B.O.....therefore, GL which is getting rather poor reviews will.........?

Or are we only demystifying here? :oldrazz:

My comments are less to do with Thor and X-men and more to do with the overall appeal of superheroes at the moment. 3D inflated box office gives a false sense of things being ok.
ouch, not a single purely positive review yet

It's really depressing, a lot is/was riding on this film for not only GL but for DC's other characters.

I believe a reviewer from the Poughkeepsie Square Weekly Crier called it 'pretty cool', though.

:oldrazz:

Folks, don't worry. Watch the movie and make up your own minds. ;)

Damn, Drew didn't go for it. That one hurt me...

You've gotta wonder if someone who wanted to love it couldn't do so whether the critics who are indifferent to it will.

Nothing lasts forever.

Except....forever.

True, but Kim Newman's disappointing review is too much for me to not consider. Man's a legend, I used to read his Radio Times articles on Hammer and Doctor Who as a kid.

Lestat,

I trust Drew McWeeny's reviews. *sigh*

Yep. Big freaking sigh...

Lestat,

Drew's very frustrated with the film if you read that review thoroughly....

That's exactly what I would call it.

You can tell he really did want to enjoy it and just wasn't able to do so, that's the worst part. :(

craigdbfan,

Yep. But, I find it interesting that he can accept the world building in the Marvel films but not in this one...

I don't think there's anything worse in film than a movie you're really looking forward to severely letting you down.

is **************.com basking in the glory of the failure of this film, on a review level?

I've never seen them do this with a Marvel film...

If they are thats one of the most childish and inappropriate things they could do but then again it is ************** so color me unsurprised.

They're posting every new review of Green Lantern and making sure to let people know that the reviews have been harsh.

They've never done that with a recent Marvel film...NEVER...never to this degree, at all.

Octoberist,

He was. He defended Thor as well. But, he was pretty bullish on Green Lantern from the get go.

I have no idea why but for some reason people have been wanting this film to fail for years. I cannot understand it, something about this character is offending people.

Was any recent first-installment Marvel film this badly received....aside from...Punisher or what have you?

I wouldn't worry too much, though. They've already got a GL TV-spot out with positive 'review' quotes ('Action-Packed', etc, with the source too small to read), ready to take them on.
