My comments are less to do with Thor and X-men and more to do with the overall appeal of superheroes at the moment. 3D inflated box office gives a false sense of things being ok.

It's really depressing, a lot is/was riding on this film for not only GL but for DC's other characters.

I won't say much till I see the actual film but this is so frustrating brcause you're right. Alot is riding on this film. not only for DC but for Ryan Renyold's career.

But I've always been a big supporter of the film but I always had a weird feeling about it. With all the trailers and ads, it never clicked in the 'right' way. I felt something was wrong...

After the critical accliam for Thor and First Class, this is heart breaking.

I see the main problems for critics (apart from the fact that they are not nice to movies that use heavy CGI, unless Cameron or Spielberg is directing.) is that Ryan Reynolds is playing as goofy tool in the beginning and weird and creepy choice of villains Hector Hammond and Parallax who look bad but do not bring anything interesting to the movie.

Even if some other director was directing this and some other actor like Nathan Fillon (just for example .) was playing as Hal, the movie Would have turned out to be same, as there is not much to change in Hal's origin story or GL Corps mythology.

Well....look...if it's of any comfort, the bad reviews are only because they think it's a bad movie, not because they think GL is a bad comic book character. Movies come and go, but the corps lives forever...right?

Wow i'm shocked at the tomatometer so far on this. Both Thor and First Class started off in the high 90% range and then dropped once officially released. This one is starting out at 14%...damn. I mean when all's said and done it looks like it'll prolly be in the 50% range. I dunno, to me this looks like a fun movie, it wont be spectacular but it'll be entertaining i think. It'll be really really sad if this movie flops financially and then Warner has to put their other projects on hold.

Same here. I tend to agree with him more than 50% of the time and his review actually was pretty well thought out. Clashing tone's within the movie.

'Clash of the Titans' made a lot of money but it wasn't well received. WB is now making a sequel that supposedly retoolsvthe franchise and fixes try problems with the first film.

I can see Green Lantern 2 going through that. Not a reboot but pulling the 'apology' card.

I wouldn't take it to heart, Reviews are one thing, audience interest in another.

Yeah, that's the scenario I was thinking about too. If Green Lantern does good at BO, we probably still get a sequel.

Yep.

I'd say both Thor & GL had this happen to them. I think it's basically about being such 'out there' concepts as opposed to other superheroes.

if we've learned anything this summer imo it's how great that may release date is.
It's an auto buzz builder and people don't measure it against anything cause it becomes the measure for the rest of the summer.

I have a feeling if XFC and Thor switched spots the money would say very different things, moreover if Thor was coming out this weekend....

I recently saw the emrald knights film and I gotta say as much as I'm into this film(martin campbell), it looks like crap compared to that. Why or why do these adaptations never ever surpass the best of the material(this goes for Nolan as well.)
At first I thought it had something to do with the book format(thought bubbles and all that) but after seeing this animated film I truly wonder...

Lucky you. I'm the moderator, so I gotta look through all this stuff.


I never understood why the May date was never taken by a DC movie, even Nolan's. It's always been a good spot. Though this Friday is the last day of school for a lot of kids in my area. Not sure how it is everywhere else, but I wonder if that will help it out.
