CGI heavy movies are expensive, Michea lBay is lucky director to get all his CGI effects done by ILM, and even his mediocre movies generating cash and he gets to make sequels, with Spielberg producing.

Oh, and he gets to fullfill his dream of exploding something in the movie every 2 minutes.

If Superman actually punches somebody in MOS, then it'll make at least Iron Man numbers for sure.

Don't count on it. It was in prime position in 2006 when the last horrible Superman movie was so distant a memory that it should easily have been a non-factor. MOS is gonna have SR on it's back and need to overcome that just like XMFC with Wolverine and TIH with AngHulk.

Consider this possibility, even if WB reboots GL after two years with new cast, director writers, but keep the mythos part as it is it will not get generous positive response from the critics, it is a bit like Hulk situation.

This isn't the genre's fault not even close.

That's like saying Fantastic Four wasn't well received because of Batman Begins which came out early in June and Sin City early on before that year.

The genre is irrelevant, it's the quality of the film that shines through at the end of day despite it's genre.

I wouldn't call it a good sign exactly but bad reviews don't mean it isn't going to be a fun movie and they don't mean it won't make a lot of money either. I never expected this film to get glowing reviews (I didn't expect Thor would either, overall too many critics sneer at this type of movie for them to be a reliable gauge) but I do expect an entertaining GL movie and I don't think it'll bomb either.

WB has always loved their late june spot, and honestly if the film is good, that's a great spot, the audience is fully into to the summer atmosphere.

It's just if your film is so so, than it's a death sentence. And most marvel films have been so so and that may spot has been great for them.

next year if I read correctly looks to have Avengers in early may, Spiderman v2 late june and Batman in late july?

if that's true than Avengers will have a tidal wave of buzz (my goodness) to see it.
Spidey better be good or else.
And batman will have absolutely no competition while it coasts to box office history.

I see some trouble coming for Spidey in late June especially since it is an Origin story again.

My expectations were for it to be a good to great introduction to the character, the universe, and the mythology...something that would stand beside Batman in the DC pantheon.

I still expect that...because Drew said something interesting in his review about how Hal just mopes around in the middle of the film. Well, I like angst in my films...especially in this genre. I like the idea of Hal questioning why he was chosen. If that works for me, I think I'm going to be good with the film.

I think Superman is going to be the most successful franchise after Nolan is done with Batman. At least I hope so.

Like Thor I thought it was gonna be nearly impossible to get right(too much inherent silliness). I was wrong on Thor, thankfully. Hopefully, I am wrong on GL.

My expectations are for a fun and entertaining movie. Mostly I have no expectations going into a movie. If its worth two hours of just zoning out and having fun then awesome. I mean only one movie has made me go WOAH after seeing it and that TDK.

ILM make a lot of movies and Spielberg produces just as many and almost none of them perform like Bayformers.. Transformers does Transformers money for reasons other than you just stated...sorry but it's true.

I effing hate greg berlanti, any one watch no ordinary family?
And I love Martin Campbell but unlike bay, maybe the jump to effects heavy genre film making just doesn't fit.

I think Abrams on Lantern would have been more appropriate.

My expectation is to be entertained. Simple as that. I dont want GL to be as serious as DK.

I thought the green lantern movie would be huge (and it still might) but after the DISASTEROUS first trailer (I know, right?!) I thought it was in for a tough time. all my none comic book friends think it looks stupid, bad reviews and/or bad WOM may see people avoid this movie.

I'm not 100% sure what to make of Green Lantern. Some parts of it were fun, but others parts of it were really limp. When I think of where the lacklustre parts were I'm left pondering the predominantly dialogue scenes, so that suggests to me that the script needed work.

The visuals looked okay. The sound was decent if nothing special. The character performances were a bit over the place. Most of them had their good and bad moments. One of the mostly good points was the humour. I found a few more genuine chuckles than groans personally.

Just to answer the question of after-credits scenes (because people always seem to want to know), yes there is a such a scene. It's about a minute into the credits between some animated CG cosmos footage and the credit crawl.

I'm sadly disappointed by the reviews I've read Green Lantern, which have ranged from lukewarm to scathing. I've been saying for a while now that I had the feeling Green Lantern was going to either be absolutely incredible or really bad, with little room for middle ground. And it seems that it is set to fall into the latter category.

Still, I'm going to see the movie on Friday. I'm a Green Lantern fan, and want to support the film. And I'll try and forget the reviews and go in with an open mind. But I can't help but feel my anticipation has been dampened.

I originally thought some of the stranger creatures would be a little hard for the GA to accept. Then I became engrossed with Geoff Johns run and became convinced it could be a hit. Then I saw the trailer and knew this was going to underperform.
