The Official Hellboy 3 thread

Everything is personal these days.

I don't really understand the backlash. If they had announced lesser talents involved with the project then maybe, but they got ****ing Neil Marshall and David Harbour on this.

You know what? It's because of the time, reboots don't have the best streak. It's just a huge question mark. But yes, you're right - the talent here is amazing, and it's been..almost 10 years since the last film. It's a good number of years.

Keep in mind, those who are complaining, are usually the most misinformed. They don't know the reasoning behind GDT departure (budget), and most likely they don't know who the new director is (Marshall is pretty much the new John Carpenter..kinda. Not as ground breaking but is darn good with genre films, and mixing them up.)

It's crazy because i like the actor and the director but i feel the same as I did after the news broke that Spider-Man was being rebooted, but unlike that one both films are really well liked by most that saw them. It just bothers me that Del Toro and Ron didn't get to finish what they started before new people came in, and i don't really see this one doing any better box office wise so I'm just a little bit baffled. If you consider that disrespect against the original creator then i wouldn't argue against that. I admit the movies made me a fan.

del Toro and his unreasonable budget demand is why we aren't getting Hellboy III. There shouldn't be any backlash over this choice.

The first 2 Hellboy movies are great and criminally under-rated on here. They should have got the chance to complete what would have been a great trilogy IMO.

But, they have got some real talent on the re-boot so I am not that outraged it's happening. Also if it brings things closer to the comics it's only a good thing in my eyes. Looking forward to hearing more.

Hellboy 2 being "great" is a bit of a stretch. It was an excuse to pit Hellboy against the monsters from Pan's Labyrinth which I thought was an incredibly lazy concept. I actually prefer the two animated films over the actual sequel.

His budget demands also killed At the Mountains of Madness. I love Del Toro, but he's gotta be willing to meet the studios half-way. At least until he has a smash hit.

I really enjoyed both of the Hellboy movies.
I liked the world, the creatures... It's a shame we won't be having a third one.

I like both of those films and wish more people had seen them so del Toro had the clout to get the budget he wanted, but he doesn't. It's just the way it is.

Critically it got a great reception. And would have made more money had Universal not stupidly put it out a week before TDK. Plenty think it's great, me included.

Oh I know. But finishing off what could have been a great CBM trilogy seems a shame. However, I am looking forward to the re-boot.

They may as well reboot the whole franchise start a new

Jeffrey Tambor - who I LOVE - retweeted this about Hellboy and it is really disappointing.
********. Maybe now since its been yrs since a release they're little known. But back then they were quite known. Movies > comics.
It betrays a sense of entitlement, superiority and ownership over Mignola and his work that is unjust. Very Hollywood, in the ugliest sense.
Hellboy film fans are basically saying screw the wishes of the guy who actually spent his whole life creating all this, we want our movie.

Shame things have turned bitter. I am a huge fan of the first 2, but life goes on.

Going through his feed, the source of Tambor's ire is Mignola not acknowledging GDT & co in the PR. I agree there is no excuse for rudeness.

I consider Hellboy II to be one of the greatest fantasy films we've gotten, eclipsing even the Rings Cycle in terms of characters, pure imagination, style, and creature design. It is surpassed only by the Imax Game of Thrones: Watchers on the Wall and Game of Thrones: The Children releases, and perhaps Avatar.

Its very disheartening to see Jeffrey salty about the remake. I enjoyed his Agent Manning.

Doesn't negate the other things he said, though. Especially consider that's a vibe I'm getting from some folks in this thread.
