The Official Hellboy 3 thread

Harbour is definitely a good pick for the role. But I won't lie I will miss Perlman greatly. And Doug Jones as Abe for that matter. Throw GDT's style in there as well.

I just hope the new movie brings us closer to the comics. That's the only reason for them to re-boot for me. I also really hope we get to see Roger.

I mean on its own, the prospect of an R-rated Marshall/Harbour Hellboy movie sounds pretty legit. But you had the option to do Hellboy 3 with GDT and you choose to reboot instead?

Very conflicted feelings right now.

This is where I'm at. Marshall and Harbour sound like an amazing teaming for a Hellboy film, but at the same time the GDT movies introduced me to the character and got me into the HB comics so I connect HB to GDT and Perlman so much.

I'm definitely interested in what they're gonna do with this though. I've got a very open mind here. Could be a really cool film.

I'm not sure why they think this is any more viable commercially (outside of a reduced budget) than a final Hellboy movie with Perlman.

If they finished the trilogy a few years back and announced this news, I would have been highly intrigued. As it is, it just feels underwhelming. :csad:

Yeah. Put me on the boat that if it's not Del Toro and Perlman then I just don't care.

#HellboyReboot could come sooner than you think: producers would like to start shooting mid-September. (If they will is another matter.)

Who's asking for a reboot? loll give us hellboy 3 with gdt!!

Most likely those that understand that version of Hellboy 3 will never be made. GDT himself said this earlier this year: "100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it".

Not surprising since he's asking for a huge increase in budget for the third, for a movie franchise that's done little more than break even at the BO. You don't get that for movies that have to resort to DVD/BD sales to make a relevant profit, and GDT doesn't seem to budge on his demands.

Hellboy has never done gangbusters business in any platform outside the comics (and even there his heyday is long since gone).

The fanbase is just too niche and he never really broke out.

Interesting, seems this is further along than we think. They must have been talking about this for a while already.

I'm on the fence too.

But then I would love to see more horror and the dry witty/satirical humor of the comics. GDT is funny himself, but he could never translate that onto his movies. His HB films were chuckle-inducing, but never as funny as they should've been.

Like the jokes could've landed better.

It sounds like they might be using 'Wake the Devil' for the reboot's storyline.

Wake the Devil is an awesome story. Chud founder Nick Nunziata is hinting that he's a producer on this project and is promising some great things.

I have read the first 10 TPB's of the Hellboy comics and honestly found all of them brilliant. So brining the re boot closer to the comics is why I am not totally outraged they are re-booting this.

I think most people are on the same page. This would actually be pretty cool news if not for the fact that Perlman is still the definitive take on Hellboy.

I forgot all about her. I was thinking about Girescu, but their villain for the movie could be a combination of Girescu and Hecate.

Hecate has more ties to Hellboy and what he is than Guirescu, who didn't end up that important in the story in the end. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

What was the name of the nazi head in the jar? That character is great.

Herman Von Klempt, he has more of a prominent role in Conquerer Worm.

Jeffrey Tambor took a shot at Mike Mignola on twitter.

I don't really understand the backlash. If they had announced lesser talents involved with the project then maybe, but they got ****ing Neil Marshall and David Harbour on this.
