EDIT; Please post any and all GdT interviews in this thread. Thanks.

Latino Review just posted an interview with Guillermo del Toro. It's a good read and gives some more insight into Hellboy 2 (Kroenen will make a small cameo appearence, Myers will not be in it, and the script review was mostly correct.)

Groovy.

We should just make this the official Del Toro interview thread.

EDIT: Thanks, DL.

Myers needs to at least cameo, otherwise that's just pissing on the entire subplot from the first film about Broom hand-picking him to take over the troop when he dies.

I liked Myers, I can't see why they won't bring him back?

Well,
since Hellboy is no longer going to be a government secret
, he doesn't need Myers to watch after him anymore.

Isn't Jeffrey Tambor still going to be back, though?

Obviously he's still working for the government either way.

Manning is the director of the B.P.R.D., so he's still needed.

So wait, you're saying Broom's entire job at the BRPD was to babysit Hellboy for all these years? That's kinda sucky. I got the impression he was significantly more important than that.

Broom helped to create the BPRD, and was Hellboy's father.

Think of Broom as the owner, and Manning as the boss.

I like the idea. When i first read the whole fairy tale stuff, i was like WTF? then I rememberd its Del Toro n fairy tale's b nightmareish thinks. So cant wait! So bummed that Myers wont b back...

I loved the little tidbit about a possible Hellboy 3 and what the story would be, i hope 2 does well enough to make this a trilogy.

There's been talk of at least 3 Hellboy movies for some time now. I certainly hope so.

I know GDT wanted a trilogy from the start, but the first movie struggled to get a sequel off the gorund for a while so i'm just being cautious at the moment.

I just saw this on the Del Toro forums, thought everybody would be interested.

Hi:

A few clarifications are in order about the stuff popping around on the net about HBII.

One: Johann will have his human form for a section of the movie. His origin will vary from the one in the comic books but this is a decision made jointly with Mike.

Two: The new script varies a little from the one reviewed at Latinoreview.com but their review is mostly accurate.

Three: The love story DOES continue in this film and yes, love and compassion are important elements in it. I believe that if -Cthulhu willing- we ever complete the damn trilogy, people will be VERY SURPRISED about how all this pays off in the third film.

I know there is some debate about this but, you see? the Hellboy universe (film, games, anime and other media) is mercifully free of a rigid Canon. Mignola loves that and seems to find solace in the reinterpretation of his mythology. In my case -with the first film- I love it (Google "Abe & Kroenen" ) and welcome it.

The movie's HB and Abe do vary from the characters in the comics -so did Kroenen, heavily- and I dare say that there are fans who are able to embrace a character (say, Abe) in all its incarnations and variations.

Actually some of the movie's myth has been sort of accepted as informal Canon: The "Samaritan" the grooves in HB's hand, Kroenen's clockwork nature by the less stringent fans.

The first movie garnered a lot of new readers to the Mignola character and it is my hope that the second one, the animated movies and the game (or games- maybe) will follow suit. The new movie will have a LOT of new colors added to the palette.

It is an honor to try again- and I hope you'll enjoy the ride.

From Hell

GDT
