Wouldn't be surprised if Scott Glenn winds up being cast either since Snyder directed him in Sucker Punch.

Treat Williams would be great for the soft spoken nurturing type Jonathan Kent. Another actor would have more of a John Schnieder approach would be Bruce Greenwood:

"Birthright" was the only Superman interpretation with younger Kents, mainly done that way to promote Smallville. Smallville did it because they wanted to target a younger teen audience in accord with the network and it's programming (The WB/CW).

Ma and Pa Kent have been more like grandparent figures in all the other interpretations and origins, even the current ones:

I think Greenwood would be great as Johnathan Kent . The Guy has played everything from JFK to Pike, and he has an amazing Range.

Pa Kent isn't supposed to be an old gruff bulldog type... that's Perry White.


Pa Kent is more like loving/nuturing grandfather. Geoff Johns got it right

Jonathan Kent, probably my favorite character (other than Supes) of the Superman mythos...

I have to agree with Daybreak, to me, Clark is the way he is because of Jonathan; he raised him to be a man´s man, to be compassionate, nurturing, yet strong and determined, I always saw Jonathan Kent as being a human, old version of Clark Kent (tho, is the other way around, right?).

For a while I wanted Marting Sheen for JK, but that ship has sailed.

Dennis Quaid would be just perfect to me; tho I never thought of Treat Williams, and I loved him in "Everwood", I´d be really happy with him, and after seing that picture of Kurt Russell, he´d be pretty good too.

You're wrong on Post-Crisis(Man Of Steel) and STAS, the images you're using are from when Clark is already a grown adult. In both of those adaptations they are still relatively young when they find the baby Kal-El. And as for the recent DC animated movies, we haven't seen Superman's origins in those so there's no way of knowing, but Ma Kent in Superman: Doomsday doesn't SEEM to be so old that she would've already been middle-aged or elderly at the time they found Kal-El.
