Updated 5/27/2008
At the time of his casting, he'd only seen about half a dozen episodes of Lost, mostly from Season 1. "I had no idea what was happening, and once I got it, I chose to leave it that way. I didn't want to know anything or be attached to anybody. I'm glad I didn't. But now that I'm on it, I'll watch all of it."
But a Lost DVD-viewing marathon may have to wait until Durand takes a well-earned vacation at home in Thunder Bay, Ontario: He spent six months shuttling between Sydney (where he "packed on" about 700 pounds to play The Blob in next year's X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the Hawaiian base of Lost, and the Santa Fe set of Legion, also due next year, in which he plays the angel Gabriel, sent by God to destroy humanity. (Sound familiar?)
"I'd like to take a little bit of time and wait for something that excites me now," he says. "I'm definitely gearing more toward film. I like the fact that I can play a character for a week or four months and then switch everything up. But you never know. Lost was really fun. If I can have that experience in any genre, I'd take it."
Did he seriously pack on that weight or was it a suit that will be added later? You can never know..
It's hard to say as it would seem incredibly plausible and reasonable for him to gain nearly 500 pounds over the span of a few months for an extended cameo.
So, yeah, he probably wore a suit.
....While Lost is filmed in Honolulu, Hawaii, Durand was bouncing back and forth over the last seven months between the Aloha State, Sydney, Australia and New Mexico working on three separate projects.
He spent time in the land down under working on the next installment of the X-Men movies: Wolverine, where he plays alongside Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as the villainous mutant The Blob also known as Frederick J. Dukes, a perennial X-Men character. The film is set for theatrical release in spring 2009.
I wasnt a comic book kid because I was busy playing hockey here in Thunder Bay. Thats all I wanted to do and all I dreamed of really. But when I saw the first (X-Men film), I was just in awe and the second one (X2:X-Men United) just blew me away, he said.
When he heard the news a new installment was in the works, he was hoping the producers would consider him for a part and luckily for Durand, they already knew his name and called for him to take a look at the part.
And to get the larger than life Blob ready for the cameras, it took six months of costume and special effects preparation.
I have a feeling people are going to like him, Durand said....
was he in Lost too???
I didn't know it.
two Lost starts in an x-film.... mmm.... that's too much, I think, hehe.
