I think he does do that in the script. Not challenging, but disagreeing with them. It might have been about Legion.

He confronts them because they refuse to acknowledge something is murdering Green Lanterns and refuse to allow Green Lanterns to strike back.

Then, he tells them willpower holds no power against fear and, if the enemy is using the yellow light, so should they.

Finally, he tries to collect a piece of Legion's armor to forge a yellow ring, but fails to. For now...

Absolutely awesome news. This choice really makes me happy and I'm glad Campbell debunked the JEH news. And he's right, Strong does resemble Sinestro. So it's good to see that visually he knows what he wants for his cast. He'd be a solid choice and I love how Campbell mentioned the other GL characters.

Here you go! I finished it earlier today, but was too lazy to do a costume. So he's Sinestro in a suit! :woot:

**** yeah.

For those who wonder, BTW, when an official source says someone is "in talks" for a role it usually means the guy got it, they´re just looking over schedule, how much money, etc.

But Molina did Frita which I haven't seen. But he did appear in films before although I don't know how acclaimed he was in them.

Molina got his head stabbed with a spear in Raiders of the Lost Ark. "You throw me the idol, I throw you the whip".

I'm ambivalent about Lively, but the rest of this cast seems pretty solid. But I see the point about the need for an "established" actor. Maybe that's the direction to take with Abin Sur or the Guardians?

Theres nothing wrong with just playing villains, Gary Oldman's made a good career out of it and he's only now started playing decent guys...

After his turn as Mason Verger in Hannibal in 2001, Gary Oldman announced that he was retiring from playing villains. And the odd video game voice role aside, he largely stuck by that until this year's Book of Eli. And I mainly want to see that film because it's Gary Oldman's return to villainy.

I have a feeling that for the first film, Sinestro is going to be a gray character--not a total good guy, but not quite so villainous yet. Which is exactly how Strong played Hanni Salaam in Body of Lies.

this bring up up the question..should Sinestro have an accent, or would it be rendered moot by the rings translation function?

Better question: since sinestro is speaking an alien language and the ring is translating, should the words match sinestro's mouth movements?

Mark Strong is an excellent choice for Sinestro!
This is one hell of a cast.

If anybody has doubts, you should go watch rock n rolla and body of lies.
It's almost like watching sinestro on screen.

Um...weird question but did he have an accent in the comics?

This new news doesn't surprise me at all. The character's canon arch-nemesis is never the main foe in origin films anymore. It's all about setting up the franchise. Batman set up the Joker in TDK, Iron Man continues setting up The Mandarin and Sherlock Holmes most recently set up Moriarty.

It'a smart way to go. As Hitchcock says, the film isn't as good without a good baddie. A good bad guy is part of a film's greatness.

that IS a better question. but that would require conlanging on an almost Avatar like scale, and it would really be a waste since almoste none of it would be heard. I think it would be more logical for Sinestro to have "learned" English offscreen, but his Korugarian accent still comes through

Rattcrawler:

it's not really stated in the comics whether Sinestro has an accent when he speaks, as far as I know. mostly, Sinestro's dialog is "translated" via the power ring

Yea maybe he could speak English, but have a distinctive voice pattern or perhaps they could add distortion to his voice or something?

I don't think that'll be necessary..Strong pulled off a convincing Arab accent in Body of Lies, so distortion probably won't be needed

According to the main page, they appear to be mainly inspired by the Geoff Johnns take, that explores Sinestro being initially a mentor for Hal.

I wouldnt expect Sinestro to know English. Why would he learn the language of a planet of savages like us? I'd expect his ring to translate. At first (when this is explained) his speech shouldnt match his mouth movements but later on they should let them match. We shouldnt be pedantic here. It would be distracting if it looks like a dubbed japanese movie the whole time.

I never noticed an accent in the comics. Does Sinestro have one?

I read the script and its pretty much how you describe it. So may i ask,
is Legion the embodiment of the yellow energy? I thought that was Parasite. How does this work exactly?

His voice is translated by the ring (which has universal translator capabilities). He shouldn't have an accent and the film sould be no different from Star Trek in that aspect.

they always should save the arch villain for a sequel. Moriarty, Joker, etc.

Couldn't agree more. It's called thinking ahead. You don't just want to blow your wad by having you best villain in the first movie(although I understand the desire to in order to jumpstart the franchise with a proven winner).

This is one thing that we have Donner's Superman to thank for. Until BB came along, EVERY other superhero franchise(or attempt at one) followed this model. I'm just glad to see the paradigm has fully shifted. Except for Thor, but that's a special case where the archvillain can't ever really fully be vanquished since he's an immortal god.

I think he will be a good Sinestro myself.
This is Sinestro before going bad clearly, as he is not a villain in the film.
However, I think the suit design it's self is nice foreshadowing.
