Really? I saw it years ago when it was in the tent downtown. Then I saw it again back in November. Love the addition of Groban's new song, but I just can't get into the show. :(

Can't say I didn't give it a fair shot.

Well, you know, this is an internet superhero website, so every opinion I express must be violently absolute. :o

I have to be honest, I liked Evan Hansen, but didn't love it. For a show that early on establishes that it's not afraid to graphically address topics like *********ion, teen sex and suicide, I feel the ending was a copout, and the show itself was a little pandering to the sad preteen drama nerds in the audience. But Ben Platt and Rachel Bay Jones both deserve Tonys.

CC, have you seen Mormon yet? It's a lot of fun.

i have not. i'm not sure it is my cup of tea

i've only ever seen:

Rent x2
Les Miz
Wicked
Cinderella
Pippin
Beauty & the Beast (local production)

If you share my sense of humour, you'll like Mormon.

I have the same problem with DEH. Also don't like the fact that the title character is a jerk.

True, though I think ''jerk'' is a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with a flawed protagonist who screws himself at every turn (Billy Bigelow, Pippin, Bruce Bechdel) but such characters don't get the clean ending this one did.

Same. Loved Groban. Thought the staging was brilliant. Was completely bored by the show itself.

My favorite character in theater, Seymour Krelborn!

Roxy and Velma are also pretty terrible, but they are in prison...

Sonya Alone is also a banger! I like a lot of the score, actually.

When I saw it in previews, the first thing my friend said when the lights came up at intermission was “But HE’S A LIAR!!!” :funny:

But I don’t think Evan's a jerk either (although definitely a liar). There’s no excuse for what he did...but I think he panicked when he first told the lie, and then got so lost in that lie that he fooled himself into thinking it was better for everyone.

I think if Connor’s parents were in their right minds they would have seen through it right away, but they were blaming themselves for so much it was easier for them to take in whatever Evan was telling them than having to think about it. And I think Evan thought it was easier for him to project all of his feelings through Connor, but didn’t realize he was still hiding.

I thought the whole thing wrapped up a little too neatly at the end too. But I get why people are connecting with it. It’s a lie, but a lot of truths about the things people feel and hide from others...

I did too - I’m still looking forward to the cast recording so I can hear Groban again. But nothing about that story hooked me at all. It’s weird, I feel like I should have liked it. I just wasn’t into it.

Great Comet didn't have a big show stopping number, but I liked the score more for the sum of its parts and its variety of musical styles. Aside from the big dance numbers, a lot of the music had a very cerebral minimalist feel to it, kind of like Sondheim at his most introspective.

I was pleasantly surprised by the show, I was expecting to see Josh Groban just doing Josh Groban stuff for 150 minutes, but the show really took me on a ride.

Funny thing is, if the show was generally PG rated, I likely would have accepted that ending. But no, the show early on adopted a very mature and graphic tone, but totally betrayed that by not giving the audience enough credit to have a storyline where the flawed protagonist had a resolution more befitting the consequences of his actions. It's like, we'll put in lots of bad language so the kids watching this will think its "edgy," but we won't actually challenge their perceptions.

As much as I love the performances of the show, DEH really comes across as emotional revenge porn for the drama nerds and bitter queens who were bullied in highschool.

Nice, for the first time in my life I have seen all Best Musical (new) nominees. No secret who I want to win, but my rankings are 1. Comet, 2. CFA, 3. DEH, 4.GHD.

CFA will likely win, which I disagree with on an objective basis but makes me happy as a Canadian.

Pretty satisfied with all the nominations.

I am disappointed Sunday In The Park didn't get a nom for revival, but I understand it's an industry thing.

Okay, I'm at the horns of a dilemma. I just bought a VIP ticket for Stephen Schwartz in recital Sunday. This includes a meet and greet.

I have four window cards of his shows: Pippin, Wicked, The Baker's Wife and Godspell. I only want to bring two; I don't want to be completely undignified about this and bring everything I have for him to sign.

Which two should I bring?

They took themselves out of the running for any nominations.

Really? Why? Because the show was too ****ing awesome and they wanted to give everyone else a chance?

is there a link where i can see all the noms?

I couldn't decide which of my posters to bring tonight. So I brought all 4. And he signed each one, and even said something nice about them. A great composer, and a gentleman.

I'm not sure if I am posting this to show off my overall collection (including the new additions) or if this is a cry for an intervention.

Because it was a short run and they would have had to give up a significant amount of free tickets to Tony voters. They decided they’d rather sell the seats and get paid instead.

I'm trying to make arraignments to see Anastasia. I was going to attempt a viewing on my birthday, but only high dollar and seats close to the stage are available. I really don't care to be so close to the stage, row C. So. I'm thinking end of July.

Anastasia was on my list, but I ran out of time. I am glad I saw Groundhog Day though; not that it was that great, but for the first time I've now seen every Best Musical nominee prior to the Tonys.
