This newer trailer wasn't that bad, we saw more of the Watchmen and best of all no whiney background song from Smashing Pumpkins.

Hey buddy, Smashing Pumpkins is one of the most relevant bands to have come out in the 90s, show a little respect!:cmad:

Muse is awesome...I've been listening to more of their stuff here lately.

Saw the trailer with Transporter tonight with a pretty rowdy crowd, and some guy yelled out, "that movie looks gay as hell!", which was met with laughter, which I'm sure made him feel pretty damn good about himself. Hopefully that is not the average joe's opinion of the flick before seeing it though.

Hehe - ironic, seeing as he was there to watch Transporter 3...

Well firstly I know that this is a movie in its own right and not just a adaptation, and that in all likelihood Watchmen as a I.P. will grow better from any change over all. That being said, I actually find myself really disappointed in this trailer on several different points and I’m hoping future trailers will be better. I’m pulling for this movie but its seems to me that a few things came off fairly rough and dysfunctional rather than mature and thought out (although I’m sure its not for lack of effort on anyone’s part). The first thing I noticed is the same thing that Lord Falsworth noticed that Rorschach calls the main characters collectively Watchmen even though the term watchmen in the milieu of the comic is use to criticize or insult the superhero’s through graffiti done by protesters and rioters. Suggesting they think their above the law or morally superior. The group the main players tried (and failed) to form is the Crimebusters and it is a dumb joke of a name because the comic is serious but its characters are ultimately sad silly men in pajamas. They are called the Watchmen in the same way Neil Gaiman’s Dream is called the Sand Man or the same way Batman is called the Dark Knight (Jim Gordon calls him that once at the end of the movie). It’s letting us in on something no one inside the book knows. And calling them watchmen sounds rather trite and shallow in that context. The second thing I noticed is that Rorschach’s gravelly, guttural and oddly loud voice sounded too much like a cartoon character than say a mentally broken, sociopathic vigilante. Dr. Manhattan’s voice was also missing its sense of electric, mechanical and alien distance although the actor did seem very well suited to the role. The story in the trailer went by too rapidly and it felt forced rather than natural. In comparison to the trailers for the dark knight or even batman begins I’d say this new Watchmen trailer doesn’t even come on the same scale and gives a rather flat, simple, blocky mess of an impression to the film and comic it advertises. If I didn’t know any better I would’ve thought they were advertising another vulgar action movie cash-in (like daredevil) or a rather dumb made-for-TV movie (or just maybe an ugly cable mini-series). I hope this movie rocks the world Dark Knight style and the posters they’ve publicized are a great way to start ball but that trailer was a flash in the pan so to speak. Oh and the squid is an off color H.P. Lovecraft reference and it tends to confused the ending just a little I would cut it too.

update: to some of you i may be repeating myself for that i am sorry.

I've heard this many times, and I simply don't get this critique. In the book, the group is called Crimebusters, in the movie, they seem to be called Watchmen. It's not a big change; it certainly has no impact on the plot. This change was probably made to tie the title in with the movie. It's a form of "dumbing down" for the GA and nothing more.

BTW, doesn't the fact that the heroes call themselves the Watchmen indicate how above the law or "morally superior" they view themselves? Watchmen is also a rather pathetic name in the sense that it as well is too serious for "sad silly men in pajamas."

I thought Rorschach's voice was great - harsh and threatening, much as I would expect from him. I agree about Manhattan's wimpy voice. They should have digitally altered it.

The story in the trailer went by too rapidly and it felt forced rather than natural. I didn't think it felt forced at all. It seemed like a typical trailer: starting out slow with lots of dialog, then building to an action packed conclusion. One line in particular gave me chills: when Laurie said "Jon thinks there's going to be a nuclear war." Maybe it's because I find nuclear wars to be scary.

It wasn't a mess as the trailer did a great job of letting the GA know the basic premise of the movie. We learn that a Watchman was killed, someone's planning a nuclear war, and that person is probably killing off heroes so they can't prevent it. That's not all the movie's about, but the trailer is just over a couple of minutes long, so there's only so much that can be shown.

If you think the movie looks "vulgar," then go ahead. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. You're right that the TDK trailer was better, but that trailer was the best I've ever seen and I don't expect it to be topped for a long time.

Oh and the squid is an off color H.P. Lovecraft reference and it tends to confused the ending just a little I would cut it too.

I would've preferred to keep the squid but it's not a huge deal. The movie ending could actually be an improvement over the GN ending. We'll know when we see the movie.

You know, I was just wondering, how will the changed ending effect the scene were Blake is ranting and crying in Moloch's bedroom?

Yet he'll go see it when it comes out.

Well that's your opinion, but I happen to like both bands.

Some things are in the domain of opinion, some others don't.

If you like Muse, that's fine (it's in the domain of opinion), but say that it isn't a copy of Radiohead, that's just loony.

Everybody knows that. Especially Muse themselves. :woot:

Smashing Pumpkins>you

Still though, awesome trailer, and it was great to hear Muse(saw them live at Wembley:woot:).

Well how will The Comedian discover them replicating Doc Manhatten's powers rather than the island were they made the squid, see what I mean?

They'll probably be replicating the Doc's powers and testing out the technology on some island or similar secret location, Comedian will investigate, discover the plot, and be rattled by its profundity, etc. Just like before.

I mean, it could play out differently. But I don't see any reason to assume otherwise.
