The Official Peter Sarsgaard & Hector Hammond Thread

An interesting tidbit: Peter Sarsgaard appeared in Kinsey, which co-starred Liam Neeson and Chris O'Donnell. That makes three actors who have starred in four separate DC Comics/WB films -- Sarsgaard (GL), Neeson (BB), and O'Donnell (BF, B&R).

I really like this choice for Hammond. On multiple levels. I really get the feeling that casting has been based on impressive performances by those chosen moreso than simply 'star power' to sell the film.

Them choosing Sarsgaard actually makes me feel better about the Lively choice. Sure, she has a teen following, but if the reports are that she actually gave an impressive performance, it's them choosing Sarsgaard that actually convinces me that they are looking at who is right for the role rather than just trying to get some 'it' names for the poster.

In terms of scummy manipulating, Sarsgaard has some mazing moments in Skeleton Key. Not recommending the film as much as the performance.

Sarsgaard is a great choice for Hammond and he is the right age and a solid actor!

Now lets hope Viggo Mortensen or Hugo Weaving gets the Sinestro role!

It's just a fancy way of saying "has signed on." He's probably negotiating his shooting schedule so he won't end up spending too much time away from his family.

All I can say is that Ryan Reynolds better pony up and be the best, Dollhouse style. Peter Sarsgaard is a terrific character actor. Provided the script is decent, he could kill this. But I don't want this to be another situation in which the villain(s) upstage the hero.

Very good pick here. I am happy with this selection. Cant wait to see how they will play out with him. Also wondering will we see sinestro go bad at end of the film and if legion has any play in the script now.

Funny enough, he was one of my choices to play Hector, besides Mark Rullalo!

Peter is a great actor with an amazing body of work; and he's underrated as all hell.

I have gone on record on these message boards saying that the studios always comb through new Oscar nominees to play supervillains. Peter Sarsgaard is getting a lot of awards attention for An Education, and will probably be nominated for an Academy Award.

Now he's Hector Hammond. Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

His really good in An Education. Pulls off a decent english accent too.

And I was thinking, his "birth" and first use of his powers in Secret Origins is really pretty graphic. I mean, making peoples heads explode? Is that gonna have to be watered down for the PG-13?

Making heads explode is all fine and dandy, but I am looking forward to some mind torture myself. With such a good actor and such an awesome superpower you can really have some intense scenes without them being to graphic. Imagine if the Joker had the power to get inside Batman's head. Not to say that Hector Hammond is as crazy as the Joker, but The Dark Knight could get pretty hardcore at times, and still within the PG13 rating.

And I suppose it isn't just his TK powers that make him a viable villain to GL, he can absorb and manipulate his green light aswell as torture him mentally. Should be interesting to see.

Dude! Wha...I see Reynolds and Lively worrying but Skarsgard is solid. Hammond the character is ridiculous though.

Correction: Hector Hammond WAS ridiculous. Since Geoff Johns' revival of the character in his post-Rebirth relaunch of Green Lantern, Hammond has become one of the creepiest, most disgusting villains in the DC rogues' gallery.

I don't know a whole lot about Green Lantern but I noticed a few people on the talkbacks complaining that Sinestro probably won't be in this now.

Would you Green Lantern fans consider Sinestro to Green Lantern as Lex Luthor is to Superman in regards to main adversaries?

If so the first film could always hint at Sinestro or do the typical surprise ending for the fans.

Yeah, i think that Sinestro and the Sinestro corps are what Luthor is to Superman and the Joker is to batman.

That said, i'm glad that they re taking their time to develop him instead of turning him into a villain from the start. And from what i've heard, WB is going for a DC movieverse and that's why they ll give Clark a cameo in GL. Assuming that GL will be successful, they can take their time and do it right, so they shoudnt be in a hurry to establish the Sinestro corps just yet.

And that's what i'd like for Luthor as well. I always prefer the characterisations of him that start him out as a nice guy whose obsession with Superman turns him evil. Its a lot deeper than him being inherently evil for no reason.
