That pretty much sums up my entire feelings about the film. I really hope At Worlds End (or whatever they choose to call 3) ends up pulling at Last Crusade. I was kinda upset the way the film just ended. I was expecting at least half an hour more. That whole cannibal scene wasnt really necessary. I liked it sure, but cutting it out really would have increased the momentum on this film. We didnt even get to see Davy Jones till what... half way through? I guess thats why the ending just felt like the middle of the film, because it basically is. I just hope this doesnt end up pulling a Matrix. A bit predictable too, I mean who didnt figured Barbossa would be returning? I hope he improves part 3 (and chances are he will considering how lack luster a villain Jones was).DACrowe said:I don't think it will drop bad. The WOM is good, from what I can tell.
I liked the movie as a whole. A good solid piece of summer entertainment. But it isn't a lick on the first movie which I think deserves a place next to Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. This is more like Temple of Doom or Back to the Future Part II, entertaining, but slightly disappointing as it is EVERYWHERE. I think the last act was every bit as good as the first film but the first act was slow and pointless and you could just so easily have cut things like the cannibal island and Elizabeth haunting the ship with her dress and no one would have been the wiser or cared.
The second act really picks up but it just seems to be msising something as the story is kicking into gear finally....halfway through the movie. It isn't until we're rocketing towards the conclusion that the movie finds its steam. A good summer movie, but far from great, which is what the first movie was.
But I'd recommend it, and so would everyone else. This movie I think is going to be proably the biggest hit of the last two years in cinemas.
I'd give this about a 7.5. A shame considering the pure brilliance of the original.
