How? Key components of a game don't work without the patch.
That's the industry standard now.
They why is simple --- because the market dictates that it works.I'm not saying sony is foolish for doing this, I'm saying it is questionable - like you said, they're preying on the hopes that those who own a Ps4 already don't know about the feature. Why should that be considered a good business practice for them?
are you sure about that? I'm not gonna ask you to pull up a source or evidence because Eden if it's your I don't think there is a way to prove it.They why is simple --- because the market dictates that it works.
yeah, I was gonna say this. The example t crack gave I suppose is more along the lines of going from a 360 elite to a 360 slim where the slim comes with a new feature like built in wifi.Actually less so. Its literally going from a 16gb iPhone to a 32gb iPhone. No model upgrade at all
You cannot use the online functions in these games without a patch.
That's due to the console's system software not the game. Consoles will not let you access a game's online features if the game is not up to date. It's like this on X-Box 360, X-Box One, PS3, and PS4. One reason for this is to make sure that everyone connected to the servers and playing online are on even footing and playing with the latest software.
It's the idea of speaking with your wallet. Sony learned this lesson the hard way when they thought it was okay to sell a PS3 for $699. The market dictated that it wasn't going to, so Sony suffered their loses and changed to appease the market. This is a similar case, except now, Sony is basically trying to say, this option is available to you, so why not try it .. If you're educated enough with the hardware, you would know why that's not a good option. But if you aren't, then you will fall for it. Is that wrong morally, probably. But is it bad for them in a business sense, not at all because lots of other businesses do it too.are you sure about that? I'm not gonna ask you to pull up a source or evidence because Eden if it's your I don't think there is a way to prove it.
That is the only thing I've been trying to say here. Ps4 has a feature that could save you the cost of buying a whole nother console + perhaps even a much bigger hd than just 2x500GB upgrade, and it looks like sony is preying on those who are ignorant of said feature instead of making the feature itself more clear/obvious/conspicuous.It's the idea of speaking with your wallet. I guess this makes sense. It's not up to gamestop to tell the consumer that other retailers have better prices and it's not up to sony to let the consumer know what the Ps4 can do...actually it may be.This may not be the best example, but if you're a teenager who only has a Gamestop by your house, and no car to drive elsewhere and no credit card to buy online, and no real exposure or knowledge of how economics work, you might buy a game that has been out for a year for full price because Gamestop is just like that. Best Buy or Target could be selling the game that same week for half the price, but you wouldn't know about it because you don't see their sales ads. Is Gamestop wrong for selling the game at full price??? Not at all, and you know why they don't change prices to math other places unless noticed, because so much of their business comes from uninformed people who only go to game stores to buy games. Video games are more popular now than ever, but you still have people who don't know anything about them and hear their kid crying for some game or system and they go to the first place they can think of to get it.
What I will say is, if we are arguing morals, then yes, it is wrong. Sony SHOULD be educating its consuming base on all of the options available to them. But the point that I'm trying to get across is that Sony is not the first company or business to use this sort of model, and as much as that sucks, it's just the reality of the situation and the only thing that we, as consumers, can do about it is to speak with our wallets. That is the only thing I've been trying to say here. I don't think swapping the hd ends up as a void for the warranty though. maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, i'm not sure. so if it does, then I suppose in practice it is the same as mods. What I will say is, if we are arguing morals, then yes, it is wrong. What would be much worse, and possibly illegal, is if Sony was saying that the ONLY method of getting more space is to buy a new system. But they're not doing that.
Plus, swapping out the Hard Drive is like adding mods to a game. You don't see developers publicly come out and say "Hey, do you wan to play as the Hulk in this non Marvel game? Then come buy it and add mods." Rockstar doesn't promote adding Mods publicly to GTA V, even though it's an option, because people who don't know how to do it might try and break their game to the point where they cannot fix it themselves. The same applies to hardware. Sony isn't going to tell you to buy a new hard drive (especially a third party hard drive) because you're messing with the system and if you don't know what you're doing, you can damage the system and they can't be help responsible for you tampering with your system and possibly damaging it beyond repair.
I took Bloodborne back to Gamestop. Not my kinda game. Pointlessly difficult.
and I'll say this, I'm definitely using my PS4 a lot more now that it has a Media Player.
there are times when I'm just too tired or not in the mood to play games. but I can fire up the Media Player and listen to my music collection in the background or watch videos, etc.
though, it still would be nice if we could save the media files to our hdd and/or use our own images for our background.
Did,Sony fix the problem where it couldn't play certain MP4 files for the media player
