I rememebr people on here saying Sony would never add MKV or TS support and Im glad they did in addition to the popular MP4 format. I just tried the thing and its pretty bare bones. Hopefully they add more features to it in future updates, but I cant really complain as they finally put this out there

Anybody try out the USB player yet? I'm too lazy to turn on my PS4 right now.

Can you copy music/videos onto the PS4 or does the USB stick need to stay in?

I didnt see an option to copy so I assume its just like the Music player, in that it needs to stay in

what I havent tried was the DLNA. I need to figure out how to configure my PC to do that bc Im really excited to see how much faster it is than the PS3

Hmm, Ok. I wouldn't mind putting a few songs onto my PS4 but I don't really need to.

I have Plex set up with my PS3 but for PS4 they don't have the free version of Plex available yet. Maybe I can get it working now with this update I dunno, but I guess we'll see.

got the Media Player downloaded. going to test it out now!

edit: And it works! It's bare bones. but it works!!

unfortunately, there's still no option to copy the media to your hdd or use a picture/image as your wallpaper. hopefully they can add that stuff in the future, at least the custom wallpaper option.

Just got my DLNA set up and it takes a small bit of time to load up the folders depending on how many videos you have but playback and FF/RW is fast! It would stutter and have to load up on the PS3 but its almost instantaneous here, even on bigger files (tried one that was 3.5gb)

The one thing thats bothering me though is that there is only one speed to FF/RW and its rather fast, making it pretty useless if you want to do a quick replay of something. The D-pad also has no functionality as I expected that to control the speeds like with the PS3. A skip ahead or back feature would also be welcomed.

Oh and you cant resize videos here. I have some SD videos that I wish I could stretch out to widescreen but you cant

eta: Im running into an issue where several of my videos wont play for whatever reason. I wonder if its the DLNA and if so if they would work if I transfer them to a USB drive

yeah. the Media Player is very bare bones right now.

hopefully they improve upon it in future updates.

that being said, just the fact that there is now a functioning Media Player on the PS4 just increased the functionality of the machine for me.

some nights, I don't really feel like playing games. but I want to browse my media files. now I can on the same machine.

also, I like how you can play the music in the background. so I can listen to a song while flipping through my pictures. pretty cool!!

So I originally pre-ordered a PS4 when it was first announced two years ago, but I ultimately let my brother handle the purchase and keep it since I knew I couldn't afford it since I was planning to quit my job at the time. But my mentality was there's hardly any games I want and I want to give a year or two for all the bugs to be sorted out.

It's two years later, and I'm saving up some money. Is it safe to say that this holiday season would be a great time to get a PS4? I definitely want to pick up Remasters like TLoS, Tomb Raider and GTA V, but I also want to finally play AC: Unity and Infamous: Second Son, and eventually Arkham Knight. Maybe even the Witcher 3.

I'm just wondering if its finally worth it to move to next gen., in terms of there actually being great games that aren't broken.

Yes. Theres alot coming in the next 6 months and theres a ton of content already released.

This is interesting. I notice that some of mp4s are sped up slightly.

Maybe it's the codec?

yes. I would say this holiday would be a good time to get a PS4.

you'll probably get more for your money, too, this holiday since the 1TB model should be released by then and most likely will go for the current $400.

just give me a media remote like PS3 for PS4 and I am (almost) a happy camper :D

So do I need to update my ps4 for the media player stuff or what?

No. It should show up on the PDM. Click on it and you'll be routed to the PS Store to download

they'll have to upgrade the app first bc as it stands most of the DS4's buttons dont even work. When I say barebones, the thing is as basic as it comes. A remote would be more appealing if this thing had more of the advanced features and options

The 20th anniversary Ds4 will be available for standalone purchase in September. For 5 dollars more than a game.

Yup. This is me. Waiting until the holiday season or Black Friday maybe.

So glad they finally added the media player. Woot.

I dunno if this is to you I said but it's possible this year sony might give the Ps4 a pricecut

Yeah it was me. That'd be great but I'm not gonna hold my breath--I'll be happy with a cool bundle package...game or games with an extra controller.

oh, if Sony follows MS pricing, then the current 500GB model will be cut to $350 and the new 1TB model will go for $400.

Ok. Would it be better to get the 500 GB model and then just upgrade the HDD myself?
