but if newer AAA titles that take advantage of the extra power can NOT be played on the current model, THEN there will be a problem. in that case, you will feel the need to upgrade to continue experiencing the best the PS4 can offer.

it will also depend on the price of the new console. will it be in the $400-$500 range? Will it be substantially greater than $500?

and what trade in incentives will they offer for current owners?

if we can upgrade for effectively $200-$250 by trading in our current PS4, then it might not be so bad.

About the price range and the upgrade thing I wonder if sony would also put a bigger hard drive in it to. That would kind of be another reason to but one because it would also be saving some money in a way not having to buy a new hard drive later if say it had a 1TB or 2 TB hard drive or something.

oh, they definitely need to include at least a 1TB. the 500GB drive has overstayed its welcome.

and if they're really going to go "premium," then they might go the X1 Elite path and include a hybrid SSD drive.

maybe they'll also do an elite, premium controller, as well.

plus the most premium feature of all...........the ability for us to use custom pics for our background.

Related info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.

Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.

They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.

It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.

Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.

It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."

Eve Valkyrie
Robinson
GT Sport

For the PS4K

Deep Down (Thought this was dead)
GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)

There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out to me.

Eh, I'm still going to wait before getting all outraged and stuff. A lot of people went through this same stuff with the New 3DS, but it ended up not making a huge difference at the end of the day, some games did see performance boosts, but the OG 3DS models were still perfectly viable.

For those who don't know, Zombi is a port of ZombiU for the Wii U. Not sure the technical aspect of it, but it was a great, great game. Very overlooked. It's also a retail title for those who are allergic to indie games, so it's still up for you!

I see GoW4 and think of Gears of War 4 and then I get confused why that would be on the PS4.........lol.

if the performance boost offered by the PS4.5K is not limited to a 4K display, then I might get interested.

I do wonder how/if MS will respond, though. The X1 is already a bit weaker than the PS4, and if the PS4 gets a power/performance upgrade, than that difference between the 2 consoles would just increase, wouldn't it?

one could argue the X1 needs a power boost more than the PS4......lol.

and what MS announced today, that any retail X1 can be turned into a dev kit, is pretty cool, I think. not to mention the further integration with Windows 10.

If I have to sell/trade in my current PS4 for a newer model, I can honestly see myself going with either console, especially if the X1 comes out with a more powerful model as well.

I' not gonna flip tables yet. Nothing is 100% confirmed.. But if Sony legit does this.. It's splitting their market and they're taking a dump in the mouths of 40+ million users.. Including the Uber loyal early adopter. I play console games so I dont have to worry about upgrading.. And no matter what, be it a slim or not.. The games that come out will look just as good.. This.. Doesnt bode well for that.. And if it happens I hope it hurts them big time.

you have a point, however there are credible sources that have already published articles about this crap. it's not just sony, it's mS too.

i would love for all of this to be bs but I find that hard to believe at this point.

wouldn't it be ironic if MS decides to stay firm with the current X1 and say they aren't going to fragment their customer base and that wins them points with consumers?

could Sony's hubris be what brings the PS4 down??

eh, i don't think vr will crash. when kinect came out for 360, all it did was make the console more successful. and it didn't affect hardcore gamers either.

on a side note, why are the video game forums out of place? i liked it better in the original order.

They updated the descriptions under the sections to reflect the newest hardware. You probably never noticed, but that was pretty outdated. Like how under the Nintendo they had something about how it was a place to discuss the Wii, DS and 3DS.

As far as the order, though, I really don't know why that got changed.
