He's a Playstation fan for whom a very large and significant part of his job is covering Sony and Playstation. Even if he didn't want one personally, I have zero doubt that he would buy one anyway to check it out professionally.

Honestly I'm a little surprised that you would say someone wouldn't need one of these professionally just because it won't have any exclusives. I mean, I have absolute certainty that every game and tech outlet (nevermind people who cover Playstation exclusively) out there will want to get their hands on one of these so they can review it and have it to review the Neo versions of games. I mean think about that, reviewers are going to have to check out two versions of every Playstation game now to report on the differences and review them accordingly. It's totally irrelevant that it has the same games as the Base PS4, people who work in the industry will still need one regardless.

All right arrogant Sony is back, baby!

But really, they should have just launched PS5 in 2018. I understand they didn't want to wait 7 years between generations this time. The gap between PS1 and PS2 was 5 years.* The gap between PS2 and PS3 was 6 years. The gap between PS3 and PS4 was 7 years.

* 6 year gap in Japan

I agree with that. Regardless of his own opinion of this bullshi, he's gonna get it to do a comparison between it and the OG Ps4. That's something that someone of his line of work would just purchase products for.

7 years is a hell of a long time in tech nowadays but at the same time this generation has had such a poor start that I couldn't imagine it ending in just 2 and a bit years time.

how do you figure that? there have been critically acclaimed games that came out in the past 2 (first two) years alone

thats what you say and even if that may make sense, thats not how he has chosen to justify it. He'd get one regardless of what he does. Thats all I meant to reiterate

IA. I feel like now in 2016, the PS4 will finally get going. I think Uncharted 4 will be the first big must have to justify its existence for me

tbh.....I haven't been terribly impressed with the games this gen so far or with the PS4 for that matter.

quite a few of the big name games that I hotly anticipated have turned out to be disappointments.

and the PS4 itself has been quite a bit underwhelming to me, especially considering how much functionality I got out of my PS3.

it's one reason why I'm not particularly brand loyal to the PS4.

i'll level with you in that the lack of media features on the Ps4 is effing annoying, but I can't say I or others I know are terribly disappointed with software.

Bloodborne is synonymous with Ps4 and is critically acclaimed. Until Dawn was an unexpected hit. Ratchet & Clank got really good reviews. Rocket League was a stellar timed console exclusive, indie.

In terms of multiplats, Witcher 3 was critically acclaimed, recently became the most awarded game of all time beating out tlour. MGS5 is a mixed boat but the press also gave it acclaim.

I could keep going but I don't think the argument that this generation is go slow has merit.

great reviews don't always translate to personal enjoyment.

DAI got mostly critical acclaim, won awards, etc., but that game was a HUGE disappointment for me.

obviously not because everyone is different. there's 7 billion in this world, a tiny percentage of which like to pay video games, which can still add up to potentially hundreds of millions of people, there's no way they're all going to enjoy the same thing equally.

exactly.

and I'm just saying, for myself, I haven't been terribly pleased with the games so far this gen.

I have yet to play a game like Dragon Age Origins or Skyrim which just sucked me in and engrossed me back on the 360.

if skyrim and dragon age are the types of games you're looking for then the witcher 3 would probably be a pretty damn good fit

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...ion-4k-neo-and-the-original-ps4-will-co-exist

In the wake of the PlayStation 4K 'Neo' leak, there are still plenty of questions that need answering, and we're intent on bringing you everything we can about the new hardware and especially what it means for owners of the existing PS4. In this article, we'll be drawing on the rules of engagement that Sony has supplied to PlayStation 4 developers. While these guidelines may change, the picture painted is clear and unambiguous. As the platform holder says explicitly, PS4 and Neo 'co-exist in the marketplace' - one is simply a more technologically capable version of the other, but there are some key points here amongst the wealth of information we'd really like to highlight:
Dual Shock 4 remains the primary controller: Sony has no plans to introduce a new joypad for the Neo hardware. The Dual Shock 4 remains unchanged and Sony has actually mandated that all existing peripherals should be supported with no segregation between PS4 and Neo.
1080p is the mandatory minimum display resolution: Sony is keen to push developers on to higher resolutions and super-sampling down to full HD is an option, but 1080p is the lowest pixel-count allowed.
No online segregation between consoles: If a PlayStation title supports online features, they must be deployed equally on both systems. Developers cannot have Neo-only servers. We believe this may actually introduce gameplay balance issues if, say, the Neo version hits 60fps while the PS4 version is capped at 30fps.
Save data systems are cross-platform: The PlayStation operating system is constant between both PS4 and Neo. This means that all data (save games, back-ups etc) are interchangeable between both systems by default. However, it seems that Sony is leaving it up to developers to ensure that Neo and PS4 save-swapping actually works.
Forward compatibility patches are for old games only: Sony really wants Neo support on all games from October onwards. While older titles can have Neo features patched in, the platform holder will not allow new titles to add Neo features at a later date.

There's more at the link, but what it amounts to is what I've basically been saying all along: The PS4K, now codenamed Neo I guess, really isn't as a big step up as a lot kneejerked it would be, and the overall experience won't be all that different with the market being shared between the two. I'm sure that won't be enough for some people, though, since everyone loves their doom and gloom.

pretty much. The reported specs aren't even much of a significant increase

I'm not seeing anything about the Neo that makes it a must have upgrade. What's the draw here? Is it just the 4K resolution?

It's not unless you have a 4KTV with 4K content and/or want your games up scaled. The specs are slightly higher and may give a performance boost in some games but most likely not worth a $400 purchase if you already own a system. Some games might look slightly better (like those that are 900p will have to be 1080p natively)

I tried Witcher, too, via a friend. I'm not really into high fantasy settings to begin with, but I can power through that if I'm really into a game.

Yeah, I wasn't really into that. The writing seemed good, but everything else just seemed boring as hell, especially the combat.

Broforce might be the best free game I've ever gotten.
