The Official Pull List Discussion thread

Yeah, Punisher War Journal is officially dropped. I should have dropped it months ago to be honest.

I dropped that as well. It was asinine from start to when I dropped it. The Punisher taking out someone in the class of the Rhino just agitated me. Frank seemed so out of place in the WJ world and the artwork was far too cartoonish for my taste.

To me the best reads right now are:

Annihilation: Conquest
Astonishing X-Men
Avengers: The Initiative
Captain America
Daredevil
Soon to be... Fantastic Four
Immortal Iron Fist
Incredible Hercules
Iron Man
Nova
X-Factor
Anything Messiah Complex

The ones that are losing me fast:
X-Men First Class
Both Wolverine Books (They really don't know what to do with him any more do they? Fighting a duel in Limbo every time he's near death...GACK.)
Black Panther

All Star Superman
Brave and the Bold
Green Lantern
Justice Society of America

Captain America
Daredevil
Punisher War Journal
Iron Man
Thor
Hulk
Incredible Hercules
Immortal Iron Fist
Thunderbolts
The Twelve
Fantastic Four

'76
Casanova
Dynamo 5
Proof
Madame Mirage
Black Summer
Next Issue Project
Umbrella Academy
Project Superpowers

I want to endorse Virgin Comics' Devi, but that third trade paperback was kinda worthless, and I'm afraid that horrid replacement artist might still be on the book.

It takes place in a fictional city in India named Sitapur. The main character is (I s*** you not) an Indian telemarketer and mentor to underprivileged kids named Tara Mehta. Tara, it turns out, is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior goddess (Devi means Goddess, apparently). It's a mix of mysticism, Hindu folklore, and classic superheroics.

The first two trades were great, if not paced a little oddly. Seeing Tara get her powers by being blessed by gods old & new (including gods from Mars: Roman god of war, to Interface: modern goddess of communications) was visually stunning.

Sounds sort of like an Indian Promethea.
Might be. I've once heard it be compared to Witchblade, though. I haven't read Promethea or Witchblade, so I can't comment either way.

I purchased the first 3 issues of Madame Mirage on eBay.

The first issue posted on the Rama read pretty well and the art was a surprise.

Ew, Witchblade? Pass.
After learning a bit more about the lore of the Witchblade a while back, I was almost tempted to read it, actually. The story behind the character isn't terrible, it's just so wrapped up in the Top Cow ideal of hiring the absolute worst artists ever to exploit the **** out of every naked female form they can that makes it too gross for me to bother with.

Okay, I just read the premise to Witchblade, and that's basically nothing like Devi. The premise to Promethea is pretty similar, except Devi implies that the goddess has only been reincarnated this once. There's also (if anyone cares about spoilers) [blackout]the fact that Tara Mehta was supposed to die in order for the Goddess persona to take over her body. However, when one of the Devi's priests stops Tara from dieing during the transformation, Tara and the Goddess end up sharing the body as two separate personalities. There's a lot of inner dialogue in ths book. The common theme is that the gods are themselves kinda petty and selfish, but this forced union gives the Devi a greater sense of compassion than other gods.[/blackout] There's also the fun tidbit about Devi feeling compelled to answer the prayers of anyone who worships a goddess (any goddess). When her powers were first manifesting, she involuntarily teleported to praying wives and mothers all the time.

good man, now if we can just get you off avengers and onto Iron Fist and Thor you'll be all set.

Sorry I can't get off Avengers, or at least Mighty, gotta support Iron Man :cwink:

I got the new Thor 1-4, but I just didn't put him on my pull list because I never know when the next issue's out. But I'll add him to my pull list and catch up on the issues.

Is Iron Fist good? what issues should I get to catch up?

Is that Tony in MA? I didn't notice it was him with all the thought bubbles and turning into chick ultron.

For Iron Fist I almost envy you cause you get to read the first two arcs at one time with fresh eyes. It's easily on of the two or three best Marvel books out right now. The new run is well new and perfect. Pick up the TPB of the first six issues and you'll be hooked and half way caught up.

I was really close to dropping Mighty if they didn't speed things up and bring Tony back.

I'll pick up the Iron Fist TPB on Wed.
