The Official 'SAW IV' Thread

Elwes got into a legal dispute with Lions Gate over SAW, he's not returning; Whannell and Wan have stated that Dr. Gordon is dead anyway.

You sure? I remember in the commentary Whannell and Wan both stated that Gordon's fate is left to the imagination, which is fine with me I guess. It would be nice to see his character again though.

They said in later interviews when asked about the first film that they like it nice and morbid and Adam and Dr. Gordon were dead.

Saw IV. Hmm. Could be pretty lame if they go with a direct sequel. I'm gonna have to wait and see what idea they have for this one, because it could get pretty ridiculous.

I don't care for the Saw franchise, I did like the first one, however.

I love this particular saga. I think what I really enjoy about is that it isn't your typical horror film. Horror films nowadays have to rely on cheap scare tactics, horrible writing, unoriginal ideas, and just bad concepts that really don't translate well onto the big screen.

What makes Saw a great film is how in your face it is. Violence and the gore is right there for you to see in living color, also add to the fact that the story while it's sick has an important theme to it. Some are ungrateful for their lives and they don't appreciate what they have until it's in jeporady.

I love it. I love the characters, I love the stories, and I love how with every single film they manage to top each other.

Unfortunately though, Wan and Whannel do not seem to have much power over the franchise anymore.

Whannel writes them, but I am sure he could be overruled, Wan seems to have nothing to do with them anymore other than a producer credit in name only.

I think the only way to save the franchise is by having Doctor Gordon take over. Make it so he had survived and learned the lesson and became Jigsaw's other apprentice. I want the legal dispute with Elwes to be settled, because he is really the only one who could pick up Tobin Bell's mantel. Jeff wasn't compelling enough to carry on the franchise.

I am in a minority, but I'm not very interested in seeing a prequel. I think the story of Dr. Gordon and Adam was a great start and should be left the start of the series.

Good point Matt,

But I really want to see a Saw: The Beginning. It would be really interesting to into greater depths of how motivated John was to start this, more indepth about his cancer, about his wife/gf, and his first test subject, etc. It would be really interesting to see.

I think the only way to go with this franchise is a prequel now. I think a prequel would be good for several reasons. First, it can really explore how John became Jigsaw, really dive into how happy he was in his life and how he was afraid of commitment. Then it can also show him losing his job, meeting Dr. Gordon for the first time, witnessing others take their life for granted, and show him create Billy the Puppet for the first time along with his first traps and so forth. I also think it would be interesting to show him creating that cage trap with the barb wires, and also the trap with the guy and the vault.
To add to this subject too, remember the guy in the first film that was going to be Jigsaw's victim? The one who woke up too soon and almost had two power drills kill him? I think it'd be interesting find out why Jigsaw chose him too. I also would like to find out why Jigsaw chose Zepp.

I think also the prequel film should end with him and Amanda setting the first game for Adam, Dr. Gordon, and Zepp. That way everything will come full circle and the story will be complete.

Good God that would be horrible. The more I think about SAW IV possiblities the less faith I have in it.

I disagree. I really don't think Gordon would be that bad. He is a cold, calculating man. He has his medical knowledge which would have to creat some interesting traps. Plus he is ten times the character Jeff is.

I just don't think it would fit the atmosphere of the Saw movies.

It's not nothing personal against Gordon/Elwes, I just don't want a replacement for Jigsaw; and I know Amanda was set up as that in SAW II, but I thought that was a great way for the series to go out, I didn't want them to keep making SAW films with her where Jigsaw used to be.
The way SAW III ended was also a great way to go out.
Any replacement for Bell, no matter who it is, is just going to feel like what Roy Burns was to Jason.

Here's my theory -

Saw IV will probably pick up right from the end of III and focus on the "game" that Jigsaw left for Jeff to find his daughter. We even saw Jigsaw pouring wax over that tape on his end table - obviously the first clue in the coming hunt for the little girl. He also said at the end that "To find her, you'll have to play a game."

Or... possibly Amanda is alive and continues the work, having learned her lesson. Being shot in the side of your lower neck is certainly not a fatal wound by default. Maybe she passed out or something.

You hit the nail.

I actually enjoyed the first film more than the first up until the crap ending. Having the girl be "in on it" was just stupid and contrived. You could actually cut that part out and it'd be much better.

Prequels are getting overrated, I prefer the continuing storyline.
[BLACKOUT]If Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers can come back sequel after sequel then you can bet Jigsaw can survive a blade to the neck[/BLACKOUT]

Those guys are immortal, supernatural beings, Jigsaw is a completely mortal human being.

Wasn't Jason a mortal human at first? I know they say he drowned as a kid...but how did he continue to grow?

Friday the 13th Part 2 postulates that he never actually drowned and actually grew up in the woods his whole life.

However, while Jason and even the Fisherman from the IKWYDLS eventually became zombie killers, I think that would be incredibly silly if it happened in the Saw franchise. It's just too grounded in reality.
