The Official SDCC Coverage Thread

if anything, I think that SR failed to UNITE the Superman fanbase ( and the GA ).

true, we all have our own versions of what we want in a Superman movie. and, true, no one movie is going to please us all.

But, I think that if SR was such a GOOD SUPERMAN movie......it would have appealed to pretty much ALL types of Superman fans as well as the GA. IOW.....it would have been the type of Superman movie that pretty much any Superman fan would have enjoyed and supported, even if it didn't quite match their "version" of what they wanted.

And, IMO of course, I think that's where SR failed. for many Superman fans, including myself, SR failed to be a GOOD SUPERMAN movie period.

It may not have "split" an already divided fanbase. If anything, it failed to bring us together....

thought that for SR to be crappy that then every fan would need to hate it.
you know?
if every fans like SR then its a good movie for fanboys. if noone likes it is not. if it is divided then its more like 50/50 . right?

Fans are divided, but some people like crappy movies. It doesn't mean SR isn't a crappy Superman film. It just means that some fans like crap.

Exactly, it did not bring us together where as BB did. And I'll venture to say, even if it's not a B.O. smash, so did TIH.

I am sorry, but no comic character has had an identity crisis like Batman. Read Batman comics from today and then check out the 60's version, then tell me there isn't wiggle room in Batman's portrayel over the years.

Fact is a good Superman movie will unite the base. The vast majority of Superman fans adore S:TM and like Superman II also (though I personally feel the Lester cut is only slightly above average at best). Good Superman movies unite the base. SR was not a good Superman movie in the minds of a lot of people (general public and Superman fans).

Fans are divided, but some people like crappy movies. It doesn't mean SR isn't a crappy Superman film. It just means that some fans like crap.
so the ones who dont like SR are normal. the ones who like it are not normal because they like crap.

I think we should stop insulting eachother, covertly or otherwise. Liking SR doesn't mean that you like "crap," it does mean that you have a different view of whats a good superman movie than myself but it doesn't mean that you like crap.

I respect the people who like or love SR and think that there is no need to insult the vast majority of them. I don't use all because frankly there are morons on both sides of the issue and I have taken, and will continue to take, both to task.

The Superman fan base was split long before Singer and SR can around all SR did was widen the gap or close it depending how you look at things.

I agreed with some of what you said, but this point really stood out. We were divided before Superman Returns, but IMO it's because Superman as a character has been around a long time. My grandfather is a Superman fan! So, of course, you're not going to be able to please everyone's taste from 0-90. But, the division is only apparent on the internet. It's not like people are walking around with "I hate Bryan Singer" shirts or vice versa. Their aren't gang wars at the conventions of "lovers" and "haters". LOL....we haven't reached the absurbity of Star War fans, and aren't attacking each other with fake light sabers.

Anyways, I think people are overestimating the division.

That you think it's crap doesn't means it is. You think it's crap. Get off your high horse. I'm sorry but this an incredibly idiotic comment, unless I misunderstood you. :whatever:

OMG, Superman fans are the Democratic party post primary election :wow::wow::wow:

:woot:

Agreed. lol

Just my 2 cents.

Millar stated that he and his very well known American action director, someone who supposedly has a lot of pull at Warners, should know by Christmas if their Superman project is a go. If Millar is being truthful with that timetable, then I would not expect anything concrete about a Superman movie, MOS or otherwise, anytime soon. You might hear continuing rumors at or around the time of the SDCC, but I wounld't expect anything solid, not if Millar is right. Now, many of those who are pulling for Singer's MOS will no doubt be disillusioned if that turns out to be the case, but it wouldn't mean the end of MOS. It just means that Warners is taking their time to decide what to do, and if 2010 is the goal for a movie release, they do have some time.

Also keep in mind that Christmas is about 7 weeks after the scheduled start of the Siegel/WB trial. Maybe Warners doesn't plan on announcing their intentions until the end of the trial, the results of which could dictate the direction they take with the franchise.

Except that Miller said that Bryan Singer still has dibs on Superman and every one took what he said way out of proportion. This director just told Mark Millar that when Bryan Singer is done with Superman, he will then pitch his reboot idea to WB, and asked Millar if he would like to be apart of it.

Singer is contracted for a sequel, so he technically does have dibs on Superman. But the ultimate decision to move forward on MOS lies with Warners, not Singer. If Warners decides Singer is done with Superman, then Singer is done with Superman. Without knowing word for word what Millar said in his clarifying statements, that's how I read what he meant.....that by Christmas, Warners will have decided whether they're going to move forward on MOS, and if not, he's hopeful they move forward with his idea instead.

Well, that's possible and would mean that either way we'll get a new Superman movie or movies, but that's not what most of the more reliable insiders have heard, like Showtime. But I guess we'll find out this month. If WB does not officially announce a sequel to Superman Returns then it will prove that Archangel from SaveSuperman.com was right all along. But, if it's a decision on whether or not they're going to move forward on MOS or not, then why did Archangel say that MOS is dead and it will be a decision between his reboot pitch, Millar's, and two others.

all along?????????????????

Well, yes. I don't believe Archangel but IF a sequel to Superman Returns is not announced during the last two weeks of this month like that insider at Bluetights.net has heard it it's not going to happen. I want it too though, so we'll see. Where is Showtime. I wish he'd clear all this up for us.

Like a broken watch, Archangel is sometimes right.

I still feel the overriding concern here is the Siegel trial. I find it disconcerting that Warners and the Siegels decided to take this to trial instead of coming to an amicable agreement out of court on profit sharing. It's also why I feel strongly that Warners won't commit to anything until they know exactly how much of their profits they're going to have to share with the Siegels. Barring a possible appeal or retrial, that could be around the Christmas timeframe. Yes, we could be in for a long ride.

I thought I heared somewhere that the trial in no way effects the movies??. Alot of ppl are saying it. Not sure if it's true, i'm no good with legal stuff so...

In light of the Siegel trial, I wouldn't go so far as to say that MOS isn't going to happen if we don't hear anything in the next month or so. Warners doesn't need to rush to a decision just yet. There's still plenty of time before production would have to start for a 2010 release. I'd venture to go as far as to say that the pending litigation with the Siegels might prevent them from making anything public, even if the decision to move forward on MOS has been privately made already.

Someone like Showtime should clear this up? Wow, what the hell did I miss? When did Showtime become like the one who knows all? Hmmm? Maybe Showtime will clear this up. I don't know :word: Yet, I just don't see what this court case has to do with anything. The heir apparents aren't trying to block access to the hero. They want it to make money. They just want a share. How does that stop anything?

I'm asking because I don't know. I'd like to know...if anyone can shed some light on this. Showtime...where are you? :oldrazz:

I don't know too much about it either, but I get the feeling that depending on the outcome, it has the potential for putting the breaks on certain representations of Superman if, in the eyes of Warners, the Siegels' demands and/or court-ordered awards are seen as excessive.

Just had a scary thought. What if Millar has put together a fall-back proposal for Warners in case the studio breaks from the Siegels entirely. I know, that's not going to happen.

I don't think Millar is thinking that far ahead, and it doesn't seem to have stopped anything else so far. It just seems they haven't reached a settlement.
