Fans are divided, but some people like crappy movies. It doesn't mean SR isn't a crappy Superman film. It just means that some fans like crap.
Well, you liked Daredevil.
Everyone is pretty normal. SOme people will like anything b/c it is SUperman. SOme people like movies they know are crappy, myself included. Some folks just don't have the same experience with the character. SOme don't care whether or not it's faithful to the essence of the comics (which it's not).
Some will rule out people who like a film labeling them as crap likers.
The simple fact is SR was NOT a great Superman film.
The simple fact is that is not a fact but an opinion.
It was a mediocre film and a bad SUperman film. THat's it. Otherwise, there wouldn't be the unreal fan division and WB wouldn't be gridlocked on what's coming next.
So, some fans not liking it is somehow an undeniable proof of quality? Im sorry but fans, as you say, have liked crap and ignored gold many times and therefore their taste cant be considered a measure of a movies quality.
WB is in troubles only because SR had a disproportionate budget.
SR did better than Batman Begins and way better than TIH (loved by the fans mind you).
All this points to SR failing to 1. reinvigorate a dead franchise 2. connect with the GA 3. unite fans behind a new Superman film franchise.
Ther franchise would be doing well if SR had a normal budget. GA responded pretty well, watching the movie more than BB and TIH and fans can disagree all they want, that is mere proof of human nature.
I have no problem with people liking SR, but I am saddened by it. Everyone has his/her own taste. I just don't think it can be stated as being a great film or hugely successful.
Just more successful than some other films of the same genre Ive mentioned.
It also can't be claimed to be faithful to the essence of the character for many of the reasons stated throughout all the posts from the past 2 years. Hey, you like it, great, but don't think it is faithful to the essence of the character, that's just ridiculous. Maybe that's a reason for some to like it.
Its perfectly consistent with this franchises Superman as seen in STM and SII.

First it was Iron Avenger then Gamma Hulk and now you are TDK4EVER! You are too much!!

I figured you might know since you're the insider here, not me.
t: That's the way I thought when I first moved to San Diego. I was excited, but after the first day it loses it's luster. The vendors don't change, and unless your going for a specific panel or discussion it's not all that exciting. The movie previews are cool and all that, but it's HOT as hell in the convention center. I don't care how high the A/C...it's always hot!
