Flop? The film made the studio a tidy profit when all was said and done.

The film flopped.

World Wide Box Office was $38,851,952 for a film with a shooting budget of 39 million dollars.

FOX said for a follow up to even be considered it had to make at least 80 million dollars.

Its a flop, even Joss himself admits it.

I'm SO sick if you guys prasing that stupid "Serenity" movie like it was the be-all end-all of sci-fi movies.

But when it comes to a better, more intelligent and better directed movie like "Superman Returns", you bash it incesantly!

FACTS:

1-Joss Whedon is an ******* and the most evil man alive. He inflicted on us "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", the most idiotic, annoying and overrated show of all time.
He turned the innocent, nice Sarah Michelle Gellar into an annoying she-woman man-hater with the acting range of a wodden plank and all the charm of a rotting slug.

2-Even Sarah Michelle Gellar, who kisses daddy Whedon's ass and has no shame (or soul, or heart) whatsoever,refused to be in the last season of "Angel".

That tell us how crappy that season was (they flushed the series down the toilet with that one).

3-I don't know if any of you fanboys know, but "Serenity" is the movie continuation of the "Firefly" series.

The same "Firefly" series that was CANCELLED, showing that not even Fox couldn't stand any more of Whedon's idiotic outings.

4-"Firefly" is nothing but a cheap rip-off of the GREAT series "Battlestar Galactica" (the REAL one, not that crappy Sci-Fi Channel wannabe).

I'll take Adama, Apollo, Starbuck and Athena over that stupid Mal REynolds guy any day of the week.

5-Fox didn't even bother to produce the movie, even thought they hold the rights to the "Firefly" TV series.

That tells you that they didn't want to soil their names with it. And you know a movie has to be crappy if the guys who created "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Garfield" refuse to distribute it.

6-Thanks to Whedon's brainwash, now SMG's default mode is Buffy, as she showed us by turning "Scooby-Doo" into "Buffy the Vampire Slayer thinly veiled as a Scooby-Doo movie".

i never saw serenity and don't really plan to. it seems like one of those movies people hype up and then once you see them they don't live up to the hype at all. that's what happened with napoleon dynamite for me. i just don't want to go through anything like that again. napoleon dynamite was mindnumbingly terrible, i can't believe i got sucked into the hype. That's not to say serenity's as bad, but i don't feel like watching movies because they're popular with a bunch of fans anymore.

Belive mne, stay as far away from "Serenity" as possible.

"Napoleon Dynamite" is "The Godfather" compared to it.

Serenity isn't the be all and end all of sci-fi genre. It's just kickass and well written...and one of the best sci-fi films out there. At least it's a break from Star Wars and Star Trek. What would this have been called? Star Thieves?

If Sarah Michelle Gellar kisses Whedon's ass, why wasn't she in the final season? Surely is she would do anything for him she would have done that? Surely!

And just because a series is cancelled doesn't make it bad. Just because a series is still going doesn't make it good. It was cancelled because FOX, who STARTED IT, put it at a time where HARDLY ANYONE would watch it, so late in fact, which is why it has a cult following.

Get your facts right.

Again, at least Serenity and Firefly is a sci-fi that isn't set in the visably advanced future, and it's dank and western-meets-eastern. It's a mixture of things, which makes it so well-received, because many people who are different can connect with the show on different levels. Even though the film bombed at the office (not majorly, like, a million dollars underbudget) it is a fantastic film that deserves the fans it has.

Mainly because they actually know what happened and how good it is.

And that comparison makes no sense. Firefly has very little in common with the original Battlestar Galactica. You might as well compare it to Hill Street Blues, it would be no less accurate a comparison.
