The Official Skip Bayless Sucks thread

Bayless got what he wanted.....publicity. He doesn't care if it's positive or negative. It makes up for him being a lousy sports commentator, that's why he relies on sensationalism.

I think in this day and age when you see a player on the decline all of a sudden bounce back with a great season, you're going to question that.

Questioning Jeter is one of the few things Skip has said that isn't mind numbingly stupid. Jeter being on the juice seems very likely in the shady sport that is baseball.

Has he really declined all that badly though? He had a great 09 then a lousy 10, and a crappy first half of 2011 before exploding off the DL after getting hit #3000. He even sat himself out of the 2011 All Star game because of the stress and fatigue of getting 3000 and he was only a month of the DL.

It's not even like saying Jeter is juicing is an outrageous claim. Honestly, it's likely.

At least it seems like the Yankees thought so.

Yeah but to the point of getting PED's? I don't think so.....

Jeter has made it clear he wants a career in baseball beyond being a player. He wants to own a team and/or run a team. He's not gonna jeopardize that by cheating in his twilight years. He's got too much to lose in that aspect. He's an intelligent man.

I think it sucks that we're forever stuck in this climate in Major League Baseball for wild accusations and eyebrows being raised when a player does well instead of celebrating them. This is MLB's fault as much as it is the players or union. In the late 90's they were too busy worried about going broke to care.

If they did care they would hit ESPN where it hurts and take TV rights away from them when the contract is up and give it to somebody that's gonna at least attempt to promote the sport in a positive manner. This is twice in one week that an ESPN personality has said something moronic baseball related. If the MLB wants to improve it's image they should start there.

Ok, what are your thoughts on Mark McGwire then?

Do you mean how do I feel about him or does it bother me that he's a hitting coach?

I mean, he's never tested positive for anything but everyone puts him in the same boat as the PED users. Why is it fair to talk about him with no proof but unfair to question Jeter? Oh, because he's the captain.

I mean sure he admitted to it after the fact but it hasn't stopped him from getting work.

EDIT: LOL! Let me explain it more plainly. At the time before he admitted to it you said "I think Big Mac is on roids!" Everyone would be like "For sure bro". Of course there was no proof at the time and we only know definitively now because he admitted to it. So why is it out there to question Jeter?

It is not out of line to question that any player is on the juice. Just a simple fact about baseball today.

I apologize for my previous post. Classic case of brain to finger connectivity issues.

And I think that it sucks that it has to be that way. I also think that if you're gonna question a guy that has done nothing but brought class to the game, you better come with proof.

Well Lance gave him something provocative to talk about, at least for a day. But the last few months, Skip's grown increasingly disrespectful (word to Stephen A) and ignorant. It's like he's desperate to find another scapegoat ever since Lebron succeeded in the Finals/Olympics. He just looks foolish trying to criticize Lebron after that, and his guy Tebow won't be doing anything meaningful for who knows how long. He's just throwing sh** at the wall now, seeing what, if anything, sticks.

Jeters a great guy, but him having this good a season at that age just seems a little too good to be true, and as you know in baseball when something seems too good to be true it usually is.

Here's a couple more articles on the subject:

This is a very good article by Pete Schrager @ Fox Sports

And from the NY Daily News, Bob Raissman (who I usually think is a tool) actually makes a great point....

A lesser name wouldn’t grab headlines for Bayless. It wouldn’t make him a target of gasbags throughout the Valley of the Stupid. Only Jeter can produce that kind of promotional magic. Too bad Ty Cobb and Ted Williams are not still around. Then Bayless could “wonder” if Cobb, who at 38 (1925) hit .378 with 12 HRs, 102 RBI and 12 triples, and Williams (1960), who turned 42 that August, hit .316 with 29 HRs, 72 RBI and 1 stolen base, were juicing. Now Bayless, and the suits running the show, are probably trying to figure another way to seed this cloud over Jeter.

Some people are getting way too ******** over this Jeter business. Whether you believe he's clean or not, the accusation is not a wild one. I'm not saying I believe it or not (I'm apathetic). People are ready to burn Bayless at the stake, but this isn't some outrageous act like Tebowmania was. I love Jeter and he is a class act (etc.), but it's not unlikely. It really isn't.

If it was any other player that wasn't Derek Jeter people would be like "Yeah, probably". For some reason Jeter has been deemed untouchable by the media over the years. Even when the Yankees were rightfully considering getting rid of him the media was like "Why are the Yankees being mean to Jeter!"

Because he's the #1 sports figure in NY and one of the classiest ballplayers in baseball. That's why he's overprotected by everyone. He's never abused it and he's managed to live a very private life. The Commissioner's office looks at him like a model player.

It's not just "for some reason".

You throw the word classy out there like it's going out of style. There's a lot of players out there that people deemed classy before they did something otherwise.

My gawd I hope Jeter is using and it comes out. Just so some of you guys can eat some corn. I can't believe in this day and age in baseball no less that you guys are being blind to the fact that a guy darned near 40 is having a "bounce" back year. Not saying it's impossible but it's baseball! I can't believe some of you can't see what's going on.

You're wishing on somebody's downfall for what? Because he's successful at something in life? You act like he's this polarizing figure that deserves to get his someday. Frigging sad.....

Nobody is wishing for his downfall (well Docker might but I think he's making more of a point than anything). We're just saying that in this day and age, no one should be shocked if someone is suing PEDs. That simple. It's ridiculous to be "Oh no, not Jeter! He's too classy!"
