The Official Spider-Man 3 Video Game Thread with Trailer [merged 2x]

Took my copy back and got the Godfather....my brother posted this (in reply to the Nintendo Magazine review) and even if it IS ok I'll wait until it hits 20....which won't take long at all do to it being a movie game.

Anyway, this is what my brother had to say about it. The "quotes" are from Nintendo Magazine.

Hold the horses!

I rented it and so far it's not bad at all. I would at least give it a 6/10 so far (after two hours of game play). Let's look at that Nintendo review.

Quote
nstead, we're tackling Spider-Man 3 from the only angle that seems appropriate: whether it's worth £40. And the answer is no

Now if that's ALL they are asking themselves in this review, the answer may indeed be "no". Is the game worth $50? So far I'd say it's on par with the first and second games in the series. Honestly, swinging with the Wiimote and nun-chuck is much easier to me that using a controller, at least so far. Aiming where I want to go with the nun-chuck and then swinging with the wiimote is a snap. Web-bounding up buildings is easier than ever for me as well. I completed four missions in 45 minutes which is pretty good for and a Spider-man game.

Quote
Surprisingly, it's the game's use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk that comes off best. Sure, so it's not the intuitive 'swing anywhere' approach we were expecting - try as we might, using different flicks and motions on the controllers never let us direct where we flung our webs - but swinging through New York with regular flicks of the wrist is still pretty cool.

Part of this is true and part isn't. The controls work well and are by far the best part of the game! However, I can indeed control the direction I shoot my webs in! If I flick on an angle I shoot on an angle and with either hand which is very nice! The control while web slinging is spot on IMO.

Quote
Sadly though, this trickle of good points is drowned in a torrent of failings. For starters, the whole thing looks genuinely atrocious. From the barren streets of New York that barely have enough pedestrians on them to fill a double-decker bus to the horrible undetailed buildings and awful character animation, it really is a visual mess. Also the cut-scenes are so unimpressive, they almost look like something off the PSone.

Again, partly true and partly untrue. It doesn't look "GREAT" but it's far from atrocious. Yes, the streets are not "packed" with people, but if they were it would confuse the hell out of you! There are already so many contacts (gang informers, police, under cover agents, etc. that you have to find as well as mission objectives that haiving hundreds of NPC civilians would be maddening! It would look good, but it would be a major distraction. On the other note, the cut scenes do NOT look like PSone material, that's just a stupid thing to say.

Quote
It gets worse. While the Wii-implemented controls aren't that bad, the awful glitchiness of Spider-Man's overall movement is unforgivable, the missions do nothing to create the kind of excitement you'd expect from a superhero action game and the movie-related boss battles are rubbish because they're not woven into the game experience at all.

I've not had a "glitch" yet so I guess I am not 100% certain of legitimacy of this comment. As for the missions, I dunno...they are as good or better than Spider-Man two. I'm not saving cats or the same guys from burning buildings over and over. I've stopped mad bombers so far that have been fairly tough fights. I've enjoyed it. If the missions stay the same, well then it may get boring but I am nearly certain they change over time with different gangs. I've not fought a movie bad guy/boss so I am not sure how it's "woven in" to the story of the game. I can't see that being a MAJOR deal.

Quote
For a game that is guaranteed to sell hundreds of thousands, this is a shambles. It smacks of a rush job that's been bunged out to coincide with the film's release, simply because the whole thing feels totally unfinished. Dreadful.

Shambles, rush job, bunged out (is that supposed to be banged out?), unfinished, and dreadful are complete over exaggerations that the review writer should be ashamed of. Heck even the graphics aren't are horrid as many are saying. They are no where close to 360 or PS3 graphics, but they are not PSOne graphics! Maybe Game Cube graphics would be fair, but then it's no Resident Evil 4 either.

o_o

When another person's opinion matters more to you than your own you might need to step back and re-evaluate.

I just didn't really want to take a chance on it sucking, if it blew I would take it back to gamestop and get 30 credit on it....and that's a maybe. I dunno, I'm a bit conflicted, I've heard that Godfather is a great game but IGN's score (5.7...not good, but not bad) and their closing comments (if your a spidey fan, you'll enjoy this outing on the Wii) has me double thinking once again.

I think I'll still wait on it, perhaps once it hits the low 20's used I can pick it up for both the Wii and 360.

I'm doing the same. I definitely want to get this just to be able to free roam because I loved just swinging around and exploring in SM2. If the story sucks as much as they say, there's no need to get it now and pay $50-$60.

The 360 version got a 6.0 and the Wii got a 5.7 on IGN.... wow. Activision sucks.

The reviews seem harsh and very non professional though. They say it's just like Spidey 2, which is true. And then go on to say they liked Spidey 2, well then common sense says you like this game.

I have the PS3 collector's edition reserved at Gamestop. My brother is paying for half so it comes out to $35 out of my wallet, minus the $5 deposit. Seeing Gamespot's score makes me a bit... Nervous. It's not to late to cancel my pre-order if I wanted to, but I really was looking forward to this game... :(

Dangit Activision, why couldn't you have just made the game good enough to get a good score so that I don't have to deal with being so torn in my decision!?

I'm still probably going to pick it up. But nevertheless, Activision gets a wag of the finger for not putting enough work into what's undoubtedly one of their biggest games this year.

well if thats teh case then it shouldnt be horrible bc SM2 wasnt that bad. It wasnt great, but it was no way as terrible as Im hearing SM3 is

I got it on PS2. I'm enjoying it. The webswinging's been somewhat watered down and isn't as fun as the webswinging in SM2, but it's still fun. The combat's been altered significantly. I didn't like it at first, but once I started getting upgrades and new moves, I found myself liking it more than the combat in SM2. The boss fights are fun (the Mega Lizard fight kicked ass), so I'm satisfied.

In a final analysis, it's better than the first Spider-Man movie game, but not quite as good as the second. It shines in some areas, though. Decent game.

On a side note, does anybody know if the cinematics at the end of boss fights are affected by which costume you're wearing? I only ask because he beat Kraven rather brutally at the end of the fight, and I happened to be wearing the black suit in that fight. He also came very close to killing Doc Connors, in which I also was wearing the black suit.

I have been playing the Wii version since last night, and truth be told, the swing mechanics are superb.

The graphics are not the most detailed, and obviously nowhere near the bigger versions...but I'm enjoying it as much as I did the second one...which I loved.

The swinging with the remote has been great and easy to pick up, especially being able to control where you aim your webs.

Not the best game to hit the system, but it's worth it if you liked number two....oh and Bruce Campbell is a riot. Plus the different villians are cool...probably a 6/10 for the game.

I don't regret buying it though...just one more game to add to my Wii library.

IGN gave it 3.5 on PS2

I'll be picking it up on PS3 when its cheap like alot of guys.

Bill's news is interesting to me however. So, the Spider-man trilogy game IS a remake of the movie games, sweet. But in all honesty I'd rather have a 100% new, classic Spidey game.

wow... so the Wii is the worst of the next-gen versions?

shocking.

i wonder what they're going to do to show us that the Wii is really worth purchasing.

I've played the game for about an hour so far on the XBOX360, and I'm loving it so far!

The webswinging is right there with the "Spider-Man 2" game, which is VERY relieving for me, as I was worried it'd might be the completely watered down version that we saw in "Ultimate Spider-Man". I mean, the swinging in SM2 was pretty darn perfect IMO, so how much could you improve on that anyway?

One of the BEST surprises for me so far is the great GREAT use of the Spider-Sense. At times, it's actually NECESSARY to use, in order to complete certain tasks, such as finding bombs, following trails, or spotting bad guys from a block away. The "Spider-Man 2" made me feel like I was swinging like Spidey...this game so far has made me feel like I am Spidey.

Also, I'm loving the random crimes and police chases that happen all around the city. These aren't the typical find-a-starting-point-and-choose-to-start-a-mission tasks you usually get. You'll just hear the faint sound of police sirens off in the distance, and with a little use of that awesome Spidey-Sense, you see that a car is being chased by cops. If you don't feel like helping out, you don't. But if you do, off you go to stop the baddies without ever pausing the game to say "I want to help".

The "Mary Jane Thrillride" missions are fun. In these, you take MJ on a..well...a thrillride as you swing her through the city. Bonus points are given if you swing around how she wants you to, and the immature pervert in me can't help but to chuckle every time I hear MJ yell "I wanna swing low!", "Swing higher!", and "Swing fast, Peter!". :p

The context-sensitive cinematics are great fun. Diffusing bombs is very cool, as it requires a good bit of carefulness and quickness that you would actually feel if you were dismantling a bomb. The combat cinematics are great fun, too, as you get to see some really great choreography that you just couldn't see in the main combat system. Heck, it's also entertaining to watch when you fail by pressing the wrong button. I must've replayed the very first cinematic four or five times simply because watching what happens when you don't press the right button when Spidey heroically jumps toward the girl that's tied up to the bomb is quite possibly the funniest moment in gaming history, IMO :D

Again, I've only played the game for about an hour so far, so I guess there's still plenty of room for disappointment, but so far this game is awesome and I'm loving every minute of it! Heck, at this pace, it might even just get better and better as I go. I mean, I haven't even got the symbiote yet! :)

The game sucks on every console, past gen and next gen. The Wii is worth purchasing for the exclusive games. That's the reason to buy most consoles to begin with.

I got it for 360. I'm not very far through the game yet but the graphics are great, web-slinging is fun, and the city is huge. Pretty sweet so far.

I agree totally. Playing the CE Edition, I've been having a blast. Seriously playing this game after seeing the movie has left me quite satisfied. I dig the new approach alot also since it means more to do, which was my biggest complaint of the last game. I think IGN missed the mark with their review. IGN's complaints about the boss fights are a bit wierd. Seriously, they don't feel any harder/easier since the last game to me. The only valid things I agree with are the complaints about the graphics (which are still bland, but shiny, new bland!) and the gameplay with the New Goblin is funky at times because of the lack of anything significantly different in that gameplay mode.

What the hell are people goin on about?? this game is fantastic, easily the best spider-man game out there (i know some of u might say 'well doesnt take a lot to be' but its def raised the bar for the series). The swinging starts off fairly crap i have to admit but once u start pickin the upgrades up it goes from strength to strength. The smooth animations makin it so much nicer to watch and play as well. If i was to have any problems with this game it wud be that theres no lock on feature for enemies (maybe its an upgrade later on??) like there was in spiderman 2 and that some of the characters in the cutscenes suffer from bug eye syndrome (no pun intended) which can kinda make them look a lil freaky. graphics r far better than i was expecting and the whole combo system for the fighting works really nice. i'm have about 11 hours game time on it now and loving every second of it.

I have several games that made the Wii worth purchasing. I can't speak for the other versions, but graphically, it's obviously not as good as the PS3 or 360....but it's leagues above the other versions...and the swinging is really fun. It's not completely bad by any means.

One thing that the Wii is worth getting for is the first party games...as well as some of the exclusives they are getting this go around.

Once I get a PS3 though, then I can enjoy the best of both worlds....the purtty grafix that all the Graphic ****es enjoy, and the plain fun and ingenuity that those same graphic ****es seem to hate without giving it a fair shot.

Stay open minded people, I know it's hard...but it can be accomplished.

Jesus Christ.... a .3 difference? You really are ******ed. The game is bad in general.v:whatever:

So does anyone have a clue what the super exclusive unlockable is after beating the 100%? I've had my theories, but I figured someone nuttier than I has found it by now.

I believe it's "Play As Venom"?

So yeah, anyway, I think I've finally found my match...the freakin' CHANDALIER at the end of the first Arsenic Candy mission!! How the HELL am I supposed to time this 'x' button press? I've been trying this 3-second scene for about an hour now, and no matter how I time it, I fail the mission...

Pleeease someone help me so I can get back to fighting things that breath. :(

Got this game yesterday for the 360, have only played it for an hour or two but I like it. Webslinging is good fun and the range of combat moves is cool. The combat is one thing i have to get used to, i always find my spider sense energy stuff running out to quick which is kind of annoying. How do you dodge bullets too??

Also I cannot do the air trick and it's really annoying me. Pull LT twice, then hold, then press and hold X, Y, A or B??!! It doesn't work for me! I always just end up doing a charged punch or kick mid air. How do you do it??

Hold X and charge your punches.

I was going to have picked this game up tonight, but Gamestop had just finished closing when I got there. Now I have to wait until morning. :(
