The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 2

Looking into the Avengers, which series do you think is a good idea to begin at?
I was looking at Avengers 24.1 earlier. Seemed like a good idea?

Now wouldn't be the best time to get into the Avengers books. Right now they're all tied into the Avengers vs X-Men crossover event, so you'd have to follow the main book or at least have a general idea of what's going on in that book in order to follow it.

While Avengers 24.1 and all the .1 issues are supposed to be jumping on points, now just isn't a great time to get started on the Avengers books. But it all really depends on how familiar you are with the Marvel Universe over the last ten years or so. Are you familiar with the events of Avengers Disassembled? I believe that Avengers 24.1 deals with The Vision finally being brought back after that event, so it might be confusing if you know nothing about Disassembled.

My recommendation for you would be to wait for AvX to be over and then try getting into things after that. Brian Michael Bendis will be ending his run after that and you'll be able to jump on board when another (and most likely better) writer takes over the books.

Or you could just start reading the main AvX book itself. It all just depends on what you know and which characters you like. If I had to recommend any Avengers books it would be Avengers Academy or Secret Avengers but even those are tied up in AvX or other plots at the moment.

Yeah, that too. Which is why I recommended Secret Avengers or Avengers Academy since they're the only non-Bendis Avengers books right now.

Not to mention that they're double shipping most of the Avengers books during AvX so trying to get into Avengers and New Avengers plus AvX would be a very expensive venture at this point.

Yeah, the only Avenger book that had a recent jumping on point was Secret Avengers but you're best bet is to wait at this point.

Pick up an Avengers trade paperback or hardcover instead. I'd recommend anything from Kurt Busiek or Roger Stern.

They all do. Secret Avengers currently deals with the space team. Avengers deals with extended material on Cap and the home team and New Avengers is dealing with Iron Fist, Hope and the hidden connection to the Phoenix Force. Cant say one is more than the other although the first issues of New and Avengers barely had AvX material in there. The second issues however did

Secret Avengers is arguably the most awkward AvX tie-in. It dispenses with like two or three of the regular cast--including the team's normal leader, Hawkeye--puts Thor in charge, and follows the altered team as it heads into space to prevent the Phoenix from ever reaching Earth.

1. How long has 616 Hawkeye been dressing more like his Ultimate counterpart? I have to say Im glad he isnt in his classic look as I kinada think it looks ridiculous and is outdated

2. In AvX, Magik defeated Dr. Strange and she didnt have much trouble doing so. Thats not much of a surprise to me bc she's terribly underrated but what are his current power levels? Is he written as weak in the other titles?

3. Following his ressurection, where is Scott Lang?

Scott Lang hasn't been seen since but it's only been 2 months. I'm sure he'll reappear once AvX is over.

I don't know much about Strange's power levels right now.

Yeah, apparently 616 Nick Fury has a son named Nick Fury Jr. who looks exactly like Ultimate Nick Fury/Sam Jackson.

I don't know anything else about him, though.

Classic Strange woulda owned Magik (Particularly since her magic powers are supposed to be nowhere near as potent outside of Limbo), but alas, that Strange is long gone.

But they did fight in Limbo where her sorcery is at its maximum. She kinda had the advantage since she was on her home turf
