The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 6

Normally I'd send you to uncannyxmen.net but the site seems to be down. They have a ****ton of full character bios including hers.

It's down for me when I checked it now.

Must be something wrong with your browser bc I copy and pasted that link you posted into the address bar and it works just fine. The site was last updated Feb 16 with a spotlight feature on Fenris

So what happened to The Monkey King that was introduced in Fear Itself storyline ? Such a cool character with Tims of built in mythology. I loved the concept and couldn't wait to see his interaction with Shang Chi and Iron Fist . Has he popped up any since then ?

Who are the best reporters in the Marvel U? I'm going to assume JJJ?

He's been dead for a couple of years now

Speaking of Wolverine, has there ever been an explanation as to why at least a few other characters- Beast and the Owl to name a couple (I know I'm forgetting one or two)- have pretty much the same hairstyle as him? I always thought it couldn't just be a coincidence.

Wolverine has the same hairstyle as them, not the other way around. Both Beast and Owl predate Wolverine. It is a coincidence. There really isnt anything special to it and multiple people have similar hairstyles

I remember hearing that Wolverine had that hairstyle because his creator left the X-Men series and the next artist assumed Wolverine wore that mask because his hair had the same shape. I don't know if that's true or just a comic urban legend, though.

Originally no-one had a design for what was under Logan's mask when he first appeared in the Hulk book or debuted in X-Men, but John Byrne came up with one should they ever take that mask off. However Dave Cockrum had already decided on his face (and he was the regular artist on the New X-Men at first) that he borrowed heavily from Timberwolf, a character he'd drawn for DC in their 'Legion of Super Heroes'.

More on that including Byrne's original concept (later adapted for Sabretooth) here:

Wolverine was also put in a similar costume to Timberwolf's in the M'kraan crystal story.

Oh, I didn't know so much of Wolverine was based on Timberwolf. Thanks for the link.

How old are Thor and Loki?

It is but regardless Beast and Owl's hair predates Wolverine

Nick Fury popped up as CIA agent in Fantastic Four #21 (Dec. 1963) and became head of Shield in Strange Tales #135 (Aug. 1965)

I have that comic I think. Wasn't that the one where he drank some kind of Steve Rogers serum and got all buffed out? I think they made him a Colonel or something. Haven't read it in forever.

I'd have to re-read the Roy Thomas Ragnarok story, but the gods are essentially cyclical with a different version of the Norse Pantheon existing until Ragnarok wiped them out. The lone survivor of that version created Odin or something like that. Thor would have been created relatively soon after, but I can't recall the exact timeline. I could be wrong, but I want to say that Thomas wanted to make a Jesus parallel, so Thor would have been born somewhere around 1 AD.

Iirc Thor was shown a vision of the previous Ragnarok and Asgard burning then was hinted at being the Star of Bethlehem when Christ was born (can't remember if that was canon or not).
