While a lot of the cameos and Nintendo nostalgia in Super Smash Bros. tends to be from well-known Nintendo games, there’s also a bit from their more obscure titles in there. One of these games is Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru.
On Miiverse, director Masahiro Sakurai posted: “In this Smash Bros. installment, this little guy is also making an appearance! I…don’t know his name, but he’s the Prince of the Sablé Kingdom. He’s from the Game Boy game Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (translated as The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls), which was only released in Japan.”
Sakurai added: “Here’s the trophy of the Sablé Prince. He transforms into a snake or a frog, and unloads multiple attacks on any opponent he catches. Keep attacking your foes when they’re trapped in his dust cloud.”

The Daybreak from Kid Icarus: Uprising will be a usable item in Super Smash Bros., director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed. Like Kirby’s Dragoon, you’ll need to combine three pieces of the Daybreak to form the weapon.
“This is what it looks like when all three parts are combined together,” Sakurai wrote on Miiverse. “How powerful will its beam blast be?”
“FYI, you can fire shooting items while moving backward and forward. Change direction by flicking the Control Stick or Circle Pad toward the back of the fighter.”

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has shared details on two of the legendary Pokémon that have a possibility of popping out when you use a Poké Ball—Xerneas and Victini.
“Victini and Xerneas are both support Pokémon,” Sakurai said on Miiverse. “Victini’s Victory Star boosts the attack of whoever throws the Poké Ball, and also prevents flinching.”
Meanwhile, “Xerneas’s Geomancy increases the launch power of all fighters, but exceptionally raises it for whoever had the Poké Ball.”

Mega Mans Dr. Wily is one of the trophies in Super Smash Bros., director Masahiro Sakurai revealed over Miiverse last night. In fact, Sakurai said, the number of trophies in the new game is seeing an increase over Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
You can rotate the trophies by drawing circles on the bottom screen, Sakurai wrote on Miiverse. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had tons of trophies, but rumor has it that the 3DS version alone may have more than Brawl. Looks like the Dr. Wily that we made from scratch for the 3DS version is on his knees in disbelief.
Sakurai added in a follow-up comment: Heres something newthe trophy shop. If youre having a hard time getting certain trophies, why not just buy them? They sometimes go on sale, too.

Love that there is a Gameboy stage. That's so cool. Does it greyscale (or greenish scale) fighters? That'd be rad.

When a Smash Ball appears during a Super Smash Bros. match, everyone drops what they’re doing and begins to fight over the Ball instead. However, in the new Super Smash Bros. game, the Smash Ball won’t be the only item you’ll want to grab first.
The new game introduces an item called the Special Flag. Director Masahiro Sakurai wrote about the item in a post on Miiverse last night, along with the screenshot above.
“If you manage to raise this Special Flag for long enough, an additional KO count will be added to your score in a time match, or you’ll get an extra stock for a stock match,” Sakurai wrote.
“When this appears on the stage, the fight for the flag becomes a fierce battle of tactics, which makes things pretty interesting.”
