The Official Superman Thread

That's why I'm liking Lex in Salvation Run.
The couple of pages we've seen of him so far were definitely more in line with the manipulative businessman take on him DC pushed throughout the '90s and '00s.

im sorry to say that i havent caught Salvation Run yet but from what I have heard it all the villains trying to escape a prison planet or something like that...

can anyone give me the rundown?
Yes, that's basically it. If you've been reading most any DC book, you've probably at least seen it mentioned, and you may have seen people being deported to the prison planet. Now the villains are sort of lining up behind one leader or another. Won't say anymore than that, because you should read it.

im sure this may have been discussed somewhere on here before but am I the only one thats irked by this absurd notion that Batman could beat Superman?

I mean I am a fan of both but I really feel that if it came down to it Bruce wouldn't have a chance in hell...
Yes, it has been discussed before, no, you're not the only, but yes, you are wrong. It essentially comes down to which one gets the drop on the other. Obviously, if Superman decides to take out Batman, Batman has no warning and gets taken out in the blink of an eye. However, if Batman has five minutes of warning, or if it's Batman who decides to take down Superman, then Batman takes it. He's got tech to mask every body noise he makes, as seen in JLA #1. It'd be a cinch for him to find somewhere nearby with lead in it to shield him from supervision. And he's got at least green and red kryptonite, and probably the other isotopes as well, as seen in JLA Secret Files #whichever.

still i mean even in the hush storyline where Batman was clearly prepared...the only way he could even get breathing room was by putting Lois in danger...if not that Bruce was about to go down...

even in the Sacrifice arc he nearly killed Batman even with all the Watchtower defenses going ballistic...it was only due to Max calling him away that he stopped the assault as well as the fact that he took half the League down casually only stopping because he had something to do...

I just dont see him standing much of a chance...even if Bruce used lead shielding and superman using heat ray vision would heat up the metal to the point where it would cook him alive inside it...

imma definately have to check out Salvation Run though sounds pretty interesting....

ok i am probably in the vast minority but here goes...

anyone else tired of Lois Lane...theyve written her to be such an unlikable character...from the way she is these days and i would say probably the last few years....I cant understand how Superman would wanna be with a person like that...

he needs to ditch the broad...

Maybe he'll meet the devil in the next few issues and you'll get your wish.

I just hope that DC will not crumble and follow in the footsteps of marvel and quesada and undo superman's marriage to Lois.

Nah, Superman's always been an authority figure, so being a 30-something married guy fits him. I think anyone who doesn't want him to be married to Lois at this point is either part of a tiny minority or dead.

Well, that was sort of the case with Pete and MJ as well.

I do see your point about the difference in their perception, though. Superman exists to be competent. Spider-Man, apparently, exists to be a buffoon.

It sounds like a joke or an exaggeration when I put it that way but, really, it's a pretty good summary of the bare bones. When I think about what's been going on with OMD and then think about the fact that Superman is in midst of a major long-running, maturely-handled storyline wherein he and Lois adopt a foster son, it just blows the mind.

The only thing that I don't like about the direction of Busiek and Johns towards Superman is that they completely trashed his origin. That and they got rid of the fact that Superman killed Zod and his cronies because he had no choice.

I feel that the New Earth Superman should be the perfect blend of all the Superman mythos. Donner's Superman, TAS Superman, Smallville (ugh) Superman, Byrne's Superman, Rucka's Superman, Siegel/Schuster's Superman, etc.

I'm all for making high demands of writers but this is just asking the impossible. There's no way someone could perfectly combine all of those different origins into anything other than a horrible mish-mash even worse than any one of them ever was on its own.

Uber-lame. I always loved that inherent contradiction, that this guy who steadfastly refuses to kill has killed before. It makes his argument a lot stronger, too; he knows what it's like to play judge, jury, and executioner and just snuff lives out rather than try to find better solutions, and he knows what it does to a person. If they retconned that out, it seems like they're drifting more towards a lot of Superman-haters' claims of Superman's being too perfect.

No I would never wanna see what happened to Spiderman happen to Supes...

It's just that with the way Lois is these days I cant understand how Superman would fall for her...she really has become an unlikable character...

I wouldn't mind seeing a separation though, even if short lived and then see them try to make things work...

But no...no deals with the devil...or flying backward through time....something sensible that could work without having to make people vomit by reading the story lol...

Unlikely. Their relationship has been shown to be stronger than ever in recent times.

I don't see how shes unlikeable either. Although i can say her sex appeal has dwindle down tho...guess that happens when you become a mom.

She's not even a mom, though. She's a foster mom. It's not like she got fat and popped a baby out of herself. She's physically exactly the same as she was before Chris came into her life.

Mr. Quesada? Is that you?

Quesada is like the hulk.....there's an aspect of him in everyone. Much like Rage is to the hulk inside Banner.

ok i didnt say make some sort of faustian bargain and make the last 20 years non existant...

there are a millions ways you could do it without totally ****ing over anyone thats read the title over its history...

Actually you'd pretty much piss off everyone if the Lois/Clark marriage ended. Much like the Peter/M.J. marriage, the vast majority of people are rather content with it.

That's one of the reasons they wont let Millar write Superman.
