So you don't think Iron Man deserved a 94%?

Nope.

But that's the nature of the RT beast. If a lot of critics only quite like a movie, it'll still get a high percentage. As it happens I'm rather rooting for Thor, so in this case I'm glad to see the system work in its favour.

Well I think it deserved every bit of it, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

Well, we could have two threads, one for purely the poll, no comments etc, and keep the actual rate and review thread that can go on for ever (thread managers delight).

Yeah RIM, I've heard that this fight was kind of short, but it was a good bit longer than the Whiplash fight right?

So was it short in length yet cool with a good number of blows being thrown, or was it short as in only a few attacks was used?
Longer, if you count
Warriors Three defending Thor & trying to stop the Destroyer.

Well, Thor used some attacks & then got rid of him.

Does the Destroyer ever land any blows on Thor after he gets his powers back?

PLEASE use spoiler tags when answering :)

(I like the extra click ;) )

That's why I find Metacritic to be a much better gauge of the true critical consensus, because A.) the reviews are scored individually by HOW enthusiastic or negative they are, and B.) They only count the mainstream professional critics (meaning contrarian trolls like Armond White are ignored). It's just a shame they take their sweet time putting the reviews up in the first place. I know they wouldn't count most of these reviews from blogs and such, but I know they'll be counting the trades (and the Guardian). They're just not up yet.

Well,
In a way I'm kind of glad to hear that because Thor doesn't get "beatdown" like most other superheroes when facing a powerful villain, but then again, I'm not a fan of one-sided fights. So does Thor atleast use a good number of attacks to defeat him?

movie was great, even my mum enjoyed it and she dosnt usually like these types of movies

just like any marvel movie dont leave before the end of the credits or u will miss out :P

People on twitter who saw this today are fawning over it.

jgknjdk oh god I don't really like thor but THE MOVIE THOR CHANGED MY MIND. Any idiots who say comic-movies are not for girls is just wrong

Goddamn Thor rocked my world. They really do justice to the character. Shame the 3D sucked.

Just watched Thor in 3D. Awesome FX. Story is well done. Nice Easter eggs in there for marvel fans. Watch after credits

The new Thor movie is freaking awesome. It's definitely worth going to see.

Thor, a nice film to kicks off the summer movies, though it's actually winter down here lol

Thor best Marvel movie yet! Don't leave after credits ;)

It's official - Thor is flipping cool.

#Thor was surprisingly good. Asgard set design was beautiful. Chris Hemsworth was HOT! Not sure what the end price was about. #ashamed

Was so happy with Thor. so surprised at how much I liked it. Too many goofy one liners, but apart from that, just a fun film.

THOR was pretty sweet. I'm so up for an encore.

And that's just a small sample :awesome:

Good job, keep the tweets comin' Chewy because I'm lovin' em:thor:

So after 3 attempts today I finally got to see Thor in glorious 2D. Review as follows.

Not being a Thor fan, in fact the one comic book character I probably know the least about (actual Norse mythology is a different story) had me in the position of not really being sure about this film from the start. Everything from the promotional material to the trailers looked OK to me, and I guess that's kinda how I left the theatre, I essentially felt the same way coming out as I did going in. I don't know what it was but i wasn't nearly as gobsmacked as some of the reviews appeared to have been.

I'm not sure what it is but perhaps reading some of the reviews saying the film was a fun action popcorn flick must have imprinted some form of expectation of this film in my mind. Films like Raiders of the Lost Arc and the first Pirates movie come to mind when I think of fun, action, popcorn flicks, but Thor doesn't really reach those heights. It works within a very, for lack of better word, 'safe' area, understandable given the character, things could have easily slipped into camp territory had they not walked the fine line that they did, but at the same time things feel a little too cautious.

The best stuff in the film are the character moments, this is clearly Branagh's strength, you take notice of Anthony Hopkins when he speaks, very reminiscent of Michael Caine in the Batman films, and Odin's interaction with both Thor and Loki are really great to watch and my favourite parts of the film. The action sequences are a little clunky, which is expected given this is new territory for Branagh, he seems a bit irresolute about what he's suppose to be showing in some of the action sequences, shaky and sometimes just weird camera movements threw me a bit, and the CGI is surprisingly flawed in some of the scenes too. Asgard though looks fantastic, the costumes looked great, there's a warmth and ethereal quality to it, far better than whatever the hell Clash of the Titans' Mt Olympus was meant to be. The first act has a decent build up but never really follows it up with the rest of the story. The film is at it's weakest during the second act, it falls a little flat when Thor arrives on Earth, although held together by some good character scenes and some genuinely funny moments, and the final battle sequence is a bit anticlimactic (which seems to be an ongoing issue Marvel need to address and fast)

Acting wise, well I'll put my hand up and say I didn't think Hemsworth had it in him, having seen far more of him than most on this board I was always unimpressed with what I'd seen and didn't give him a hope in hell. Well hand me that piece of humble pie coz he proved me wrong (the second former Aussie soap star to do so in the last 6 months I might add). He was solid, I wouldn't say he quite owned the role like RDJ did with Stark, but he more than held his own with the cast around him and all round delivered a good performance, great line and emotional delivery, and good comic timing (and also made me realize I'm not as in good a shape fitness wise as I thought).

Rest of the cast is solid, as mentioned Hopkins is great, Tom Hiddleston is also good, Nat Portman come across far better than I thought she would (the trailers made her look annoying), Kat Denning the comic relief, my girl and future Mrs Jmc Jaimie solid as always (good British accent too I might add), Thor's mates do their thing, Idris Elba is awesome in anything he's in as far as I'm concerned, Renee Russo was almost a blink and miss part.

So overall, whilst there's nothing inherently wrong or bad with the film (it's a vast improvement over the debacle that was IM2 and not as flat as TIH) it just never feels like it gets out of first gear. I was waiting for the moment when I would tense up in my seat at some awesome story twist, dramatic moment or action sequence but it never happened, it never blew me away like some reviewers are saying, in a strange way it all seemed a little familiar and kid friendly for me. This is probably the perfect film to introduce a 5 year old kid to superheroes though, the story is simple and there's lots of bizarre looking characters and decent action. Perhaps they'll be more adventurous in terms of story in a sequel, but I imagine for Thor fans you'll come away at the very least satisfied and be thankful they didn't for the most part screw it up.

I'll give this a 7/10 for a decent effort.

Thanks for a non-spoilerish and straightforward review JMC - the way some of the reviews have been, I'm almost sure to be 'disappointed' if you know what I mean. Yours kinda tempers the wild enthusiasm, without knocking it down.

Must say, had I written that, I'd have marked 6/10 ;)

"The best Marvel movie ever?" OK, then.

If someone who considers Iron Man 2 to be a 'debacle' thought Thor was decent, then that must mean it's great.

jmc,

"(it's a vast improvement over the debacle that was IM2 and not as flat as TIH)"

I was hoping for this. Two days ago, I did a Marvel Studios' marathon at home and frankly, only the original Iron Man works as a complete whole. And even that film suffered from a third act slight letdown compared to the rest of the film.

I'm really, really glad that the character beats are the ones you found the most effective parts of the film. That's music to my ears.

Saw Thor (in compulsory 3D) today. Loved it.
I was surprised that the(fish-outta-water) comedy was better than some of the (brothers')melodrama.

Well done, Mr Branagh.

I love this forum, but man, I gotta duck out of here until the 6th.

Thats the line I noticed too. Most everyone who mentions IM2 when talking about Thor is mentioning it in comparison to how disappointing it was, which I agree with, and talks much more favorably about Thor. Makes me feel good since I feel like it means we're coming from the same frame of reference.

Hey Everyone !

I wanna thank everyone for posting these reviews , I am happy everyone is liking the movie . I am looking foward to posting one of my own , lol if may 6 ever comes .. take care guys !!
