Dempsey's character is working with NASA to develop weapons based on Cybertron designs. Sam is working with this group and starts falling for Carly - Dempsey's assistant. Soundwave is watching Sam and sees he reacts around her.
I'm speculating there's a love triangle between her, Sam and Dempsey. Dempsey trying to woo her with gifts (the Mercedes) and Sam not being able to do so. Eventually, Soundwave masquerades as her car and kidnaps her bringing her to Chicago where they start the invasion.
Dempsey is manipulated (or he gives her up) by the Decepticons, causing Sam to get angry at Dempsey for their fight at the end.
During all of this, the Autobots are exiled from Earth, but Bumblebee stays behind to watch over Sam. He changes form into the Datsun to stay in disguise and to try and sneak into Chicago. They try to mount a resuce mission but fail.
Epps tells Sam in the trailer they can't do anything. This is when Bumblebee calls out to the Autobots ala the first film to bring in the calvary.

I liked the first Transformers, despised Revenge of the Fallen... but you know, this one actually looks good. I like the idea between the space race of the 60s being more than just "who gets to space first" thing. The idea that they were all competeting to find the Transformers tech on the Moon is pretty interesting.

SENTINEL PRIME vanished centuries ago along with his legendary ship THE ARK. New data suggests that they were lost somewhere in space, which may mean big trouble for the DECEPTICONS if Sentinel returns!
There's also info for the Wreckers and the Dreads, Laserbeak, and Megatron. Nothing new on the latter besides a pat explanation for his truck alt (he's hiding).

All of this being what it is, especially that juicy Chernobyl bit, and the trailer doesn't even tease at it? This and the wealth of other new/interesting tidbits about TF3 being absent from the trailer just seem strange to me.
Outside of the [BLACKOUT]cosmic cube[/BLACKOUT] Captain America and Thor seem to tease at the entire plots of their films with their subsequent trailers. Time will tell.
Michael Bay usually follows a trailer directive: First trailer establishes characters and the movie's tone and has brief glimpses of characters kicking ass. I would have to disagree. Most of Bay's trailers are compiled of nothing but 2-3 second clips. It does not establish tone, characters, or really anything. Think about the first trailer for ROTF. It had the same "tone" as the DOTM trailer, but the actual tone of the ROTF movie was completely different.
Bay is just trying to grab people's attention with loud music and cool affects. His trailers are nothing more than badass.

I would have to disagree. Most of Bay's trailers are compiled of nothing but 2-3 second clips. It does not establish tone, characters, or really anything. Think about the first trailer for ROTF. It had the same "tone" as the DOTM trailer, but the actual tone of the ROTF movie was completely different.
Bay is just trying to grab people's attention with loud music and cool affects. His trailers are nothing more than badass.
1. Bay doesn't handle the adverts, the studio pays houses to do that.
2. I like how you turned a response about the structure of said trailers into "the trailers are misleading anyways so there..."
3. I wasn't expecting TF2 to be some quiet thoughtful character study, I actually believe the trailer for that film is violently accurate.
4. Before you address protocida's point, perhaps it would be prudent to check out the trailers of bays other 5 non TF movie's to see if there's some sense to what he's suggesting.

Not really. If you watch the first theatrical trailer for Revenge of the Fallen the tone is very comical. It opens up with bumbleebee in the garage crying about Sam leaving for college.
But the dark of the moon trailer is very serious in tone. There is not one hint of humor in it.
Truth be told, I do like how they're not revealing too much of the plot in this one, as loud as it may be. We have an idea what everyone's motivation is to an extent, but it won't be clear until reviews start coming in.

A] the ROTF trailer you speak of was not the "FIRST" trailer.
B] the humorous tone of the opening of that trailer does not convey the tone of the entire trailer.
