I didn't find it to be all that intact. You can hear a difference in his voice throughout those moments, where he sounds genuinely shaken or exhausted or his emotions are getting the better of him and the voice loses it's consistency, gets more scratchy and unthreatening and slurred, as if it's straining him to keep it up under all the pressure he's under. This shows a lot during the interrogations, the finale with the Joker, and when he's talking to Gordon after Harvey's death.

Compare the voice where he's talking to the Batman wannabes and Scarecrow to the rest of the film, and you can see the voice evolve as the situation bares down on him further. That was my impression, anyway.

Yeah, I love that Bale lets Rachael's death, his stabs and bullet wounds speak through his voice when talking to Dent/Gordon in the end...

I think it was intentional. Remember at the party, when Bruce renders Dent unconscious how he uses the Batvoice while not in costume? I think all those where subtle ways to show the Batman persona gaining ground.
I think you re reaching because as you saw he was trying to stop. He was just in Batman mode.
Funny, that's precisely what I hated about his turn in TDK. Bale's approach under the mask is purely "Batman-mode", so the more genuine and human moments don't have any poignancy on me because there's always that barricade. Like when he says sorry to an unconscious Harvey in the hospital, or when he goes insane on Joker in the interrogation room. Both moments that would seem to peel away the masquerade and give us a look at Bruce, but doesn't have a complete effect because the forced voice is in tact.
I wouldnt want to hear his Bruce voice when in costume. He's batman when he wears it and he should sound like that even when he's hurt, sad or whatever.

Trying to stop is not the same as succeeding. He's fighting a losing battle. The whole movie shows just that.

I dunno, its been a long time since i read it.

EDIT: I FOUND IT, I FOUND IT!!! Skip to the 5:00 minute mark. Also, watch the second scene of the video where Batman appears to the professor. Also at the 8:30 mark its probably my favourite scene where he shows that he knows everyone's identity. He's the goddamn Batman!

:funny:

That's great.

Oh no, I definitely understand the intention behind it. It was more on Bale's delivery that dampens the effect for me. I should clarify that the voice is so out there and difficult to pull off, that it's hard for me to believe it starts becoming so naturally to him over time.

Refer to the above. I get the intentions of Bale. I suppose the finale with Joker best exemplifies my issue. When he was speaking tiredly, in the Batman voice, it threw me. For me to be believe he's actually tired, I would need to see/hear that he's not putting an act. A charade is all that comes to me when he speaks that way. I realize in the context of the scene that's not what it's supposed to be. However that's how I read the character. That is what I meant earlier when I referred to genuine moments of humanity as not being so convincing. What you see as Batman being exhausted/furious/regretful, I see as Bruce projecting his "Batman" as exhausted/furious/regretful. Hope that clarifies my position.

I wouldnt want to hear his Bruce voice when in costume. He's batman when he wears it and he should sound like that even when he's hurt, sad or whatever.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing. If you read above, I actually have no issue with Bruce making a subconscious decision to alter his voice. I just want it to sound like it's the type of voice that could plausibly come out from him. Take a look at Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach and Heath Ledger as Joker. Both very abnormal voices, and not remotely like the actors' native tongue. However their delivery was so pitch-perfect I didn't once question it as I watched the respective movies. It was completely organic to the character.

I don't think Bale has taken it to disastrous levels. His performance in BB, however inconsistent it may have been, was a lot closer to how I think his interpretation should be delivered. There were far less instances (if at all) in which I got taken out of the movie as I was with TDK. Some people can't hear the difference, but my ears preferred his interrogation of Flass versus that of Maroni. Both growly and aggressive takes on the voice, but the latter was too distracting. If Bale can dial it down a notch, I think it'd be great.

The closest Bruce will get to talking like Bruce while in costume is the voice he used with Gordon when he wasn't "Batman" just yet and when he was talking to Rachael in the cave (BEGINS) and Lucius in the R&D Department of Wayne Tower (TDK).

Reading the chapters of Who Rules the Night (sequel to Knightfall), there is an issue where Alfred dons the suit. Caine joked about it during TDK's pre-poroduction. I think I want to see if they can pull it off in TDKR.

Fighting crime ala "I hope you're not a member of the fire brigade"...

You really want to see Caine in a bat-suit? That could only be laughable.

Haha I'm laughing already, no disrespect to Caine, as he is legendary, but he's likely not even strong enough to wear it and make it convincing.

I want Bane to destroy Athens, Greece, the hometown of Gianakin. :P

Hah! The way our economy is going and the crime rate is rising, Bane won't find anything to destroy. Nolan should go there if he wants a decayed Gotham.

I want to visit so I can boost the tourist economy over there!

(Is it that bad now?)

2011 is supposed to be our lowest. After that (considering the clowns our fathers and we have voted do anything, which is doubtful), there is a 4 year period scenario of our economy... well, rising. Heh.

But hey, if you ever visit Athens, lemme know. I'm in Manchester right now for my MSc, but I plan on coming back for Easter, summer and in September to settle back again.

will do.

Though most likely it'll be a few years. the plan is to visit Europe in the next maybe 2-3 years. But isn't the Euro down? So it's probably the best now?

Well, yeah, right now the Euro is closer to the US Dollar than, say, last year (and the UK Pound is down, too). Things are kinda expensive in Greece, though. You should stick to your plan, it's gonna be better in 2-3 years. Make sure you've spent enough money on watching TDKR several times before getting here:woot:

oh yes. Is American/English films dubbed or subtitled over there?

Here, when we get foreign films, it's all subtitled so you can hear the romanticism of a foreign language.

Subtitled, thank Lucas. They're dubbed in Germany and Spain (and France, but I'm not sure about that).

Here are some suggestions I have to help the last film of the series. First, bring back the Gotham from Begins. It didn't look EXACTLY like Chicago, plus lets see the narrows again. Make Batman theatrical and a wraith again. In the Dark Knight, that aspect was really missing. Plus, please put Batman more in the shadows where he belongs. No more open lit settings. Oh, and please cut back on Batman talking so much. He should only talk as much as necessary; no more speeches, infact, that goes for ALL of the characters. This isn't theater, people don't do monologues all the time.
Now about the fight scenes. The quick cutting of Begins served a purpose, it made Batman seam blindingly fast, As Nolan said in on the Begins DVD. Bring that back, tweak it a bit, make it more palatable, maybe by widening the camera shots. Also, cut back on the science fiction of Batman's gadgets. Cell phones enabling you to have x ray vision, yeah, not realistic.

And now that Bruce has lost Rachael and is on the run, Bruce, not just Batman, should be darker, let him broad like his comic book counterpart. And please, for the love of God, make the cape look like anything other then a towel. Now lone last thing. Please incorporate Batman the detective/scientist. This will be our last chance to see this aspect in this series, so go for it. Just some thoughts from a rapid Batman fanboy.
