Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

I believe Justin Hammer will be Whiplash's connection with Black Widow. My bet is that Black Widow is secretly working with Hammer, who infiltrates her at Stark Industries as Tony's new secretary (Pepper got promoted), so she can seduce him and gain acess to his laboratory, where she passes the prototype informations to Hammer, who sells it in the Black Market to criminal organizations all over the world, including the Ten Rings. When Iron Man notices the theft and starts investigating, Hammer bails an ex-arms dealer called Ivan out of prison and gives him an updated version of one of Tony's prototypes, which he calls "Whiplash". Ivan must make Tony busy so he won't have time to investigate the theft and uncover the conspiracy.

I also believe Widow is a triple agent. She's actually working for SHIELD all along to arrest Hammer. But that's a theory for another thread...

Does anyone else believe that what starts out as Whiplash in the movie will eventually evolve into the Crimson Dynamo and thats why there was so much confusion over who Rourke was playing at the start?

Even back in the day Whiplash kind of had a smartassed Deadpool like approach to things when it came to crime...not like your average doofus villian, He was pretty sinister and cold.

I hope we get a good long sequence of him stealling or robbing a bank or causing some great confusion in a Russian backdrop, I'm hoping there's an armored jailbreak sequence.

No... I just think it will be mostly Whiplash with some of CD's tech and maybe a little of his background and/or personality... just a little. A combo if you will.

If thats the case I find it a little bit silly to be honest, why not just have Whiplash be Whiplash and save CD for a role in a future IM movie.

Cause even for 616 standards from the 80's he's kind of a weak character.
He often time was paired/grouped w/ others...Blizzard, some of them other strays.

Well, how many IM film do you expect they will make? I think three at the most and we all are somewhat pretty sure the final one will feature The Mandarin and the Ten Rings.

& I bet we'll see a significant glimpse, a voice, or lead-in to the Mandarin at the end of 2. At least that's how it always went down in the continuity.

I don't think that's outside the realm of possibility. But I would also bet on Rourke's character being just a hybrid of the two. Maybe they could use one of 12 CD pilots that have existed over the years, albeit reimagined, to become this new Whiplash instead?

I think that this reimagined Whipalsh will be wearing armor anyway regardless of whether or not the suit evolves into a more CD-esque look. I've interpreted the CD elements that have been allegedly added as being that he's just a Russian guy who gets his own armor.

But like I said earlier, I would agree that the suit evolving is definitely a possibility.

The way Roarke described the costume leads me to believe it will be closer to Whiplash/Blacklash's last costume. (Before the IM armor sorta, well... broke him) I think the CD/Russian elements will be closer to Eastern Promises than anything else. Anybody hoping to see elements of Ultimate Whiplash?

Maybe by the end of the film Whiplash will have an Armor to defeat Iron Man, a Russian prototype named Crimson Dynamo, made by a scientist Vanko.
I think in that way they could put both characters, and do justice to both of them.

I think they color Gwenyth's hair on a daily basis. That's why she was blonde on Conan tonight. I really don't think she'll be changing her hair color from the first one.
