Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Rourke is a great actor and I'm sure he'll be a great Whiplash, but I can see why some people got upset with his comments. It's OK not to like super-hero movies, but he did some unnecesary bashing.

He definitely could have used wiser words. But he does make a point about the formulaic format, especially when it comes to Spider-Man. Though I would say that BB and TDK were two very different movies, so maybe he should open up to the possibility that the genre can offer something different.

I just find it funny he'd say that being on a comic book production. At least with Heath, he made a point to separate what Nolan is doing from everyone else.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I've said that Mickey Rourke is a *****ebag in real life and that's why he can't keep his career going longer then a couple years at a time and a dozen people who have no idea what they are talking about start calling anyone who hates Mickey Rourke a "fanboy" and then starts insulting everyone in the thread. Seriously, if you people would stop being his fluffers for a second, wipe off your mouths and do some research and you'll see why people don't like him. Most of us never said anything about him not liking Spider-man. Also, while you're doing research look up the definition of irony because anyone on a Superhero website who sits there and laughs at "fanboys" because we like superhero movies, must really not have a grasp on what's going on

Gee, where could I have possibly got the idea the abuse of Mickey Rourke was a response to him not liking Spider-Man? Let's see... Mickey Rourke does an interview on his role, and in the midst of this intreview makes one comment saying he doesn't really like superhero movies. Immediately following this, topdog1 quotes only the paragraph where he says he doesn't like them, and piles personal abuse on him in response. Then you quote topdog1's post when launching your own personal attack on Rourke. Yeah... I don't know what wild reaching anyone could possibly do to connect Rourke's comments with people having a hissy fit against him. :whatever:

As for the cliched "OMGZ YOUZ CALLINGZ SOMEONEZ A FANBOY ON A SUPERHERO MESSAGE BOARD LOLZ"... yes, I am a fanboy. We're all fanboys here. But as a fanboy, it embarasses me to see other fanboys acting out the hostile, whining Comic Book Guy fanboy stereotype and making us all look bad.

Damn, people.

The last thing I want to see if this turning into a TDK board.

When the backlash comes only after some innocent remarks on Spiderman, that's what provoked the bashing. Instead of taking it to a Celebrity Thread to hate on Rourke people have to use his comments as ammunition to hate him here. All I can say is, I hope to GOD Wiseman shared the same comments as he did just now from the moment Rourke was rumored... or announced... just so he can confirm his consistency. If not, it's mindless hating on an actor he can't stand.

Have faith that he'll do a good job otherwise Favreau wouldn't have cast him.

There ya go. I don't hate the guy and hope he does a good job. I trust that he will. The fact of the matter is he's a VERY strange bird and his resume is riddled with crap films. Iron Man 2 will go under the ledger of exceptional films he's been in, not because of him but despite him.

He said he didn't like formula movies. Big deal.

And I didn't like Batman or Spider-Man either. Any of them. I've seen more detective skills and better done action in a 20 minute episode of Batman The Animated Series. And that had someone that could actually play Bruce Wayne AND Batman.

And the Spider-Man movies...geez, it'd be nice to have someone do them that actually knew something about Spider-Man. Raimi has proven three times he knows jack.

Rourke is not my favorite. I don't care about him either way. He did fine in The Wrestler and Sin City. I'm sure he'll do fine here also. Hope Scarlett puts that much effort into getting a Russian accent.

Whiplash was only good for dying, like in Man in the Iron Man story arc. Tony's A.I. armour to Whiplash as he plumets to the ground dead "so this is death... its over rated". Bring on Crimson Dynamo

It's a no win conversation, both sides make valid points about Rourke. At the end of the day he like everyone else are entitled to their opinions right or wrong. I enjoyed both Spider-Man 1 and 2, hated 3 and I am not a Spider-Man fan, but found both to be very entertaining films that i hoped Iron Man would one day match and did.
Rourke has always been his own man, saying and doing what he likes and has rubbed people the wrong way for decades. Is he talented, yes depending of the material he has, I believe he will do fine as Ivan and play a great villain, he will be working with a extremly talented cast and that will make a huge difference.

Has anyone posted this yet?

"Mickey Rourke just did a marketing photo shoot. It's the first time I saw him in full costume. I can't wait for the images to be released."

Its on Jons twitter.

Very Road Warrior esque

That looks terrible,as far as Rourke goes,I dont care that he did the movie anyways because he was convinced he should do it. I rather have stupid celebs like him to stay away from being in a comic book movie.

It looks really crazy... I'd love to know what the heck that scene is about.

Race track. You could read the article.

not bad
its still a improvement on...

actually rather nice high tech ungrade version of that look, and glad they lost the mask (you don't cast someone like Rourke just to cover his face)

but, still kinda hope this is only a first stage look, and it gets alil more updated thoughout

This could be an early version of his outfit. It looks better than the comic , I think. Although I'm suprised he wouldn't try to conceal his identity. I'm not sure what to think about it.
