Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

I just don't think CD needs to be over-sized ala' Iron Monger.

No, he doesn't. Several of the CD's in the comics were pretty close to Iron Man's size. Sure, some were larger but we've already seen that in the first movie.

The picture doesn't do it justice. You needed to see this guy in action. Stark crawling across the ground, desperately trying to get away, and Rourke's just slowly pacing towards him, like a predator stalking his prey, slicing the whips back and forth with these vicious swipes. They're making this savage, lightsaber-like sound, taking chunks out the concrete as they slice through it like butter. And the INTENSITY on Rourke's face - eerily calm, yet brimming with malicious intent, like he had some prison rape in mind!

That, for me, was one of the trailer's money shots. I was dubious about the possibility of Whiplash possibly overcoming his inherent lameness on film, yet knew if anyone could do it, it would be Rourke. Boy, has Rourke succeeded - he has made Whiplash a badass.

Damn, that sounds awesome Keysor. I can just imagine that...

Iron Monger was always supposed to be roughly the size of the Hulk. Titanium Man is about the size of someone like Shaq. CD has had so many different incarnation, from slightly bigger than Tony, to about the size of the powerloader from Aliens. it all depends on which version.

I think CM should be smaller than Monger, just to distance it from the first film. Plus, WM can be the big, hulking armored dude.

No, but he'll be bigger than IM. Hulking was probably a poor choice of word.

Project PEGASUS. son of Anton Vanko. oh man, I think we are gonna see Dynamo. If not in name, but in form. I believe Favreau is trying to keep people off the trail to make it a bit of a reveal.

I want IM to engage in melee combat this time. So i'd like the villain to be about his size. With ironmonger it was impossible.

I wonder if we're going to see the Ivan Vanko incarnation of Whiplash get adapted for the comics. Jeff Bridges' character in the first film dovetailed nicely into Matt Fraction introducing Ezekiel Stane with Invincible Iron Man, so maybe he'll also take inspiration from the sequel. Stark could use some more strong bad guys - it's telling that Norman Osborn is already a more compelling foil for Stark than most of the actual Iron Man rogues he has faced.

I wonder if Whiplash is responsible for Tony's car crash or if he appears after that once Tony is vulnerable.

Is anyone else thinking that Ivan Vanko is based off the third Crimson Dynamo, Alex Nevesky? Who in the comics was Anton Vanko's prestige and blamed Iron Man for his mentor's death. Just apparently making him Anton's actual son and changing his name accordingly.

And on the topic of how big the Crimson Dynamo suit should be, I think it should be about the same size as Iron Man. Just bulkier if anything.

Theories on Howard Stark's connection with Anton Vanko, and why his son Ivan hates the Stark family so much?

A link to Tony's dad helping Cap America who kicked Vanko's dad's (and people's) ass? I pulled that out of nowhere btw.

Good call. :)

I'm starting to think Vanko doesn't make his suit in prison.

Why would Captain America be kicking a Russians ass? They were on our side during the Manhattan Project.

His father might have had extreme ideas. Too much for daddy Stark to handle or something. Has to be stronger than kicking someone out.

But back then the US and the USSR weren't pals

They were good enough friends to get rid of the Nazis together.

Maybe Howard Stark...stole..his idea.

"murderers and thieves.
