Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Sam Rockwell quote from 1999:
"I'd like to be an action hero, but I don't think they'd ever make me that type of leading man. I'm too quirky. If they put me in Speed 3, two days later they'd go, 'Yep, we're gonna have to fire him now. Can we get someone more mainstream?'"

Made is awesome... and I also forgot about Rockwell's part.

Nonetheless, that seems off that the deal was made with no script-reading or character discussion. Anyway... perhaps he is confident enough in his ability to prep, and is game for anything.

Here's the relevant part:
Then there is comeback kid Mickey Rourke, who is poised to follow his Golden Globe-winning performance in "The Wrestler" with an offer to play the main villain in "Iron Man 2" — but at a lowball opening offer of $250,000 from Marvel; Marvel’s tactics have already prompted Samuel L. Jackson to swear off playing Nick Fury because of a similarly low offer.

Marvel better not **** this up

So, Sam Rockwell doesn't know what he is signing up for and Marvel is low-balling Rourke.

*Alarms starting to sound off*

Not knowing that Hammer was in the comics and not knowing that the character is generally portrayed as being old isn't the same thing as not knowing what he is signing on for.

And if you read the article, it sounds like Marvel aren't the only ones lowballing.

That article is interesting. My feeling is, Hollywood should have never started the Super-salary thing in the first place. People getting paid s**tloads of money after playing in only one mid-sized hit...it's outrageous.

Thats being said 250,000 sounds way too low but it's not like he should be getting paid 10 million or something. He isn't worth it, no matter how many awards he wins. Harsh but true.

That's pretty low. Shouldn't offer anything less than a few million.

he didn't get paid for the wrestler... they should have at least paid him 1 million... in the ****ing least... the budget will be like 160 million probably, and surely they could have paid ONE of those damn million to one of the lead villains of their piece... pathetic

Considering what Rourke has done in the past . . . he's lucky to be working at all these days ;) .

Seriously guys chill the hell out. You don't know what actors are worth or what they should be are willing to be paid.

If Rourke isn't happy the offer he can always turn it down and do something else. Why are you guys so upset about what these guys get paid?

What is wrong with the Rockwell thing?

I think some of you are too immature to realize how bad our economy is right now. Right now, I'm still lucky to still have a job and continue getting paid. A lot of people lost their life savings or retirement funds. Getting work at all is a good thing in this economy.

Some of you also aren't willing to recognize that this global depression is affecting EVERY FREAKING ONE. Including these big corporations and studios that make all these big expensive movies we pay tons of money to watch.

$250k? Are you serious?!

That's not low balling. That's Earth's core balling.

Internet nerds chill out??? Yeah freakin right.

The people on the Iron Man boards have been particularly whiney lately.

On Sam Rockwell:

Who gives a f**k if they change the age of a character, if all turns out well? Rockwell is a great actor, even if the role isn't well written he will kick all sorts of ass. They change characters all the time in these films and most people don't give a s**t if they like whats up on the screen. Nerds don't make the studios the bulk of their money, normal people do.

Regarding the Emily Blunt rumor:

People can train for a role and just because she hasn't done anything like this before doesn't mean that she can't do the role.

On Sam Jackson money "woes:"

Now this does kind of annoy me, I'm no fan of Jackson but I liked his cameo and would like for him to return for another and a possible role in The Avengers but you see, I'm not all that excited for the Avengers movie anyhow. It will be cool to watch and should be fun but I don't think that it can be great cinema or anything. These team up movies always sound like a big toy commercial to me. So in the end...not hugely important to me but still a bit irksome.

People need to stop crying about everything little thing that comes up.

$250k doesn't go far once an actors Agent, Manager, Publicist, Lawyer and assistants take their cut.

250 is pretty low but we dont know if thats the final offer or how much screen time rourke will actually have in this movie. The second movie could focus on Justin hammer and rourke appears for the final battle at the end.

I'd star as the villain for 250 though haha.

could be true i guess. but i bet they will give smaller actors a smaller paycheck so that they will have enough money to get RDJ a big paycheck.
if every actor this year gets a smaller paycheck then OK. but we know that this is not what will happen.

just because Rourke got an GG doesnt mean that he is now a Big name and will bring people in the theater.

Wow that's damn cheap.

Brandon Routh got paid 1 million for Superman Returns. Nuff said.

I tell you, Marvel is going downhill.

Hmm I really don't see any problem with that offer. Rourke is lucky to even be getting work in a huge movie like Iron Man 2. He has a criminal and self destructive past similar to Downey's and is basically getting his second chance as an actor right now.

Now don't get me wrong. I love Rourke I think he is a talented guy but I can certainly understand the studio not wanting to break the bank on an actor who is not even the main character and is probably only going to be on screen for 10-20 minutes if that.

I'd make 250 movies if they paid me $250,000 :funny:
