Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Same here.

The fact is Mickey Rourke is a great actor. Yea he's only just making a comeback but what does that mean? Nothing really. You don't just forget how to act do ya? And with this resurgence in his career the mere mention of his name with Ironman 2 will automatically draw more people to it. Mickey Rourke as a villain in Ironman 2, every body will want to see that. He should be paid accordingly.

I am starting to not care for Marvel. By the time the Avengers come out we won't have anyone but RDJ playing the same roles it feels like. Essentially it's like Marvel is asking their actors to act for scraps so they can rake in all the money.

I realize they are a new studio, I realize they don't have as much money to fling around, and I realize they need to save money for the Avengers. Still -- all that aside -- they really need to start treating those they work with the respect they are owed.

Okay, Terrance Howard was paid more than anyone? Fine let him go. I understand. Samuel L. Jackson wants too much money for 5 minutes of screen time? ...Fine. But Rourke is the villain. Give him at least a freaking million especially since your previous movie gained so much money it's sickening.

Marvel is good not to spend much on big name actors, I think its smart. Its a win win for Rourke, He has to know that he'll be in the biggest movie of next year, and will open him up to more opportunities, plus it makes him look like a great guy for accepting that offer! everyone will love him, and If i were him id jump on that. and it saves money for Marvel for a better movie.

that's what i think anyway. Howard and Jackson are dispensable, especially if you can get better for cheaper! I love Howard, but Cheadle can pull it off just fine. And sam Jackson was made for the role.. but well... he was only in IM for 5 seconds so he can be replaced without a huge aftershock.

Plus Rourke will end up getting more. We all know it

This is why it's a bad idea for Hollywood negotiations to become public info - fanboys flip out over nothing.

Well, I wouldn't call myself a fanboy of anything, honest to God I don't really care. However I can say that I don't like how Marvel are doing things in this case.

But thats the thing. I mean think about it. Rourke himself will probably only have 10-20 minutes of screentime at the most with some of it basically being voice acting. Now if this is what Downey was getting paid then I can understand why people would be going nuts and scratching their heads.

Well... on my end, I don't expect him to get as paid as much as Downey. I do however think he deserves more then he will probably end up with.

Granted, in the end it's all up to Rourke, and if he's willing to work for that amount -- cool. But, I just don't particularly think he is getting his due.

Yea defiantly. I trust in Marvel and all those guys to do the right thing because well... they obviously don't WANT to F up. They want success, So Saving as much money as they can is a good thing in my opinion. I could care less either way, I just hate how people say they'd pay Rourke more or blah blah. Your not the one doin the negotiations. Just leave it to them and see what happens.

The important thing here people is that your getting a great actor, in ANOTHER Iron Man movie... not to mention Captain America, Thor and The Avengers! Be happy! Things will work out, that's the whole point.

Yes but the fact that Rourke's name is attached to this product will make it a big draw. It doesn't really matter about how much screen time he gets. There could be people who were never interested in this film, but now Rourke is linked to it, it could produce a lot more interest. His name being on the posters would make Marvel money is what I'm saying. He should be paid accordinly.

I'm not talking specifically about you - just look at this thread. Look at some of the geek news sites. We don't know the circumstances surrounding this, or the SLJ negotiations, or the Howard negotiations. We don't know the conversations that took place or are taking place, we don't know how various people feel about the project, we don't know what more recent offers that have been out to Rourke amount to, we know nothing but a couple of sentences that are taken out of context from the articles they originated from - yet people act as though they KNOW Marvel is concerned about money above all and are willing to **** Rourke/Jackson over for it.

So your point that Rourke said he was doing movies for the money doesnt really translate to him volunteering for lesser pay.

I never said there wasn't a difference did I? I was just stating I could see him volunteering for lesser pay because how modest he seems.

I think some of you are too immature to realize how bad our economy is right now.

Specious reasoning: two comic book movies alone made over 1.5 billion last year. The economy is bad, but major blockbusters are doing just fine.

He is getting his due because he would be in one of the biggest, if not THE biggest movie of 2010...

Yes but it will be his name that would contribute to that being a big film. It's Mickey Rourke for fricks sake.

Well I think I have said it and many others have said it before me. While Rourke is a talented actor and I hope he gets as much as he can this guy has a rocky past personally and professionally. He is getting a second wind with his career in the past few years and he should be thankful he is getting a part in a big budget summer blockbuster like Iron Man 2 which despite only getting paid a low amount but will give him great exposure and more than likely more movie offers. I am pretty sure he realizes all of this.

Dude I hate to break it to you but the studios don't consider him a big draw and this generation is just learning of him.

But I'm pretty sure that he and his agents realize that his name will be a big draw. Mickey Rourke, the revitalized Hollywood bad boy, playing a super villain in the new Ironman movie. That will put asses in seats. 100% guaranteed.

I Mean come on.. if you think hes not getting enough money then you pay him. Your not the one working for marvel doing the negotiations.

You don't want to spend any extra money that you have to, that could be put toward the actual film and making that better. The lower the pay for actors the better. They will turn in good performances either way, because they are worried about their reputation as well. Rourke is the perfect example. Iron Man 2! come on.

Until they lowball RDJ with a $20,000 offer for The Avengers, and he turns it down, and the Marvel apologists say "MARVEL PUT HIM BACK ON THE MAP, HE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR 20 GRAND, HE'D BE SPENDING MOST OF THE TIME IN THE SUIT ANYWAY! FORGET RDJ, PEOPLE PAY TO SEE IRON MAN, NOT WHO'S PLAYING HIM! MAKE MINE MARVEL!"

Yes, and they will NEGOTIATE a higher pay. $250K was only the first offer.

Yea, because how many movies have been blockbusters because Mickey Rourke has been in it? So now all of a sudden he's Will Smith. Iron Man 2 really needs Mickey Rourke.

Umm, no it won't. Exaggerate much?

Um the seats will be filled with asses Rourke or no Rourke.

it wont be the MAIN draw. IRON MAN is the main draw lol. why do you think Iron man was so successful, It was a kick ass superhero film that everyone wanted... Rourke would just be an added bonus. It wont put teenagers asses in the seats or any kids or chicks for that matter. It wouldn't make a huge difference in the box office if he was or wasn't attached.
