Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

What if they are picture by picture deals? All our info comes from the actors themselves, SLJ could re-negotiating like an a-hole rather than Marvel being the tightwads they are portrayed as.

Like I said, I dont think any of us should act like what Marvel is doing is any different than any other studio. Nortons mad that they took his cut, that happens like 8 times a year at every studio. We have no idea what day-to-day business as usual should go. 250k starting bid could be very normal.

Well we know for a fact they are doing things differently than Sony... :cwink:

50 million for Maguire??? I think just a tad overshoot there...

I think straight up... wouldn't be suprised if it's a piece as well... whatever it is... not trying to compare the two... just saying... a studio out there throwing all their chips in the middle of the table like that??? In this economic climate? That's says a lot. WB ain't doing that... Fox ain't doing that... Sony appears to be doing so...

That's Tobey Maguire's possible fee because the Spider-man movies are a multi-billion dollar fanchise. And Maguire is the star of all three.

It wouldn't be unrealistic to assume that Robert Downey Jr. will be paid well for sequels.

Oh so thats for Spidey 4?

$50 Million for 2 films??? That sounds a bit better... Though honestly, I could do without Tobey Macquire's drama-queen version of Peter Parker. A recast would be fine by me. Not sure who, but I would be OK with getting someone else.

Oh thats not so bad. You usually see $20-25 mill for lead acting moneymakers. I particularly dont think Toby is worth that much but then again he didnt seem all the enthused up any more spidermans until these new developments either, so it was probably the only way they could get him back or somethng

Yeah you prefer... anyone would prefer... is he vital? I'd lean more toward "yes"... since it either means a recast (which is bad)... or worse going back to 616... which is such a bad idea IMO that it is beyond words. Will I get over a recast? I guess... but how many more recasts are we going to get? That would already be two... for that reason it's VERY important.

Recast bad! Recast bad! The reason people think recasting is bad is because you people keep saying "recast bad"!

If IM2 tanks or Avengers sux it wont be because they recast Nick Fury or James Rhodes. I'm sorry. I respect you think you know what you're talking about but you don't. RDJ, Fav, incredible effects and solid writing is how IM2 will live and die. If this makes or breaks the movie for you then you are pretty naive.

In addition I could care less if they wrote Nick Fury completely out of the Avengers. It can be done either way. Hell! Nick Fury could be a silouette on a screen for all I care. Solid actors in the main hero roles, good director, outstanding effects and good writing. That is what will carry the movie. SLJ is not the linchpin you seem to think he is. Plenty of good actors out there hungry for this part that can pull it off.

More lectures... sheesh...

Not that your points are incorrect... but, damn, guys.

I agree. I have never unsubscribed from a thread I started, but I'm considering it. The lectures are ridiculous.

PITT: It was a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, to steal the title of the book. Sitting here, I realize I'm sitting with three actors who have made it and survived this business for three decades. That's an achievement in itself.

LANGELLA: I'm a lot older than you think.

PITT: Four decades? Is it almost five decades?

ROURKE: Wait a minute, I was out of work for a decade.

DOWNEY: You might have had a slow 10 years, but I basically wasn't in my body for 25, and I have like 65 credits during that period of time. I think the work kept me grounded, and having a call sheet was the only stability in my life. I have a much more relevant question. Mickey, will you please consider being in "Iron Man 2"?

ROURKE: With you? Absolutely, brother.

So is this really a done deal?
DOWNEY: No, I just asked him to consider it. That's all I got.

HATHAWAY: Robert, will you at least consider being in "Princess Diaries 3" with me? That's my question. [Laughter]

:lmao:

It's not in any of the videos for the roundtable, looks like they cut it out and only kept it in the text.

I wonder if Rourke is getting a bigger payday from WWE for Wrestlemania 25.

Any of us would.

But in terms of actors in a comic book film that was a huge hit, that's not much, at leat over a milltion.

Again... we don't even know the amoutn of screen-time that the character has. Rourke said that he was hoping to film the Expendables at the same time, so it might be a secondary character next to Rockwell's Justin Hammer... and a portion of that might just be head-shots and voice work while in the suit.

Perhaps $250,000 is justified based on the size of the part... Perhaps it should be negotiated up, as is the nature of most first offers... but it still may be commensurate with the role's scale. Or not... and it could be a horrible low-ball. I just find it interesting that people are so sure of what it should be, without knowing the details.

Exactly Rich;

As I said earlier, we dont know the extent of Rourkes role. Too many people are all too ready to jump down Marvels throat without having enough knowledge of the details.

You dont tend to get an actor like Rourke for a small role though do you, especially with the recent praise he has gotten for The Wrestler.

Maybe it's a bit part as a set up for being the main villain in IM3?

Mandarin = Main Villain in IM3
I believe Favreau has made that pretty clear.

And it's not like a role in a big blockbuster guarantees the actors big $$$. Shia only made $500k for Transformers, and he was in practically every scene.

Forgot about the Mandarin. My bad.

Perhaps he is getting that figure for a whole movies work.

Maybe my earlier post had some truth to it when I said people may be surprised to learn just how little some stars actually earn in comparison to what they are perceived to earn.
