Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

I think they would.

Especially Rourke. As much as I like Rourke, he's got a reputation of being hard to work with. He's been known to drop out of projects already in progress, storm off sets and make wild demands (like the chihuahua thing...). I wouldn't be surprised if the figure went up, but I would also be VERY surprised if it climbed any higher than low 7 digits. I'd bet that that's about what Downey cleared for IM1 - some things are more about exposure and rebuilding damaged reputations than $$$

Yeah, if any of Rourkes interviews promoting the wrestler are about anything, it's about him rebuilding his reputation.

Rourke is all the rage now because of the Wrestler (and rightfully so), but casting him in as an important character that happens to have less screen-time is not unheard of... but I am not going to spend anymore time defending this notion, since I know exactly 0% whether or not it is case...

250k for Rourke seems extremely low. Unless, the part is small, but as has been mentioned, I don't think Marvel would bring him in just for a bit part.

Rourke would have made an excellent 616 Nick Fury....

But they already committed to the Ultimate version by bringing in Sam Jackson. Too bad.

I thought Rourke was great in "The Wrestler" he would bring a lot to the sequel, especially if he snags the Oscar, which he probably will. Instant respectability for Iron Man 2.

Nothing against Rourke, but Iron Man 2 will have enough "respectability" with Downey Jr., Cheadle and Paltrow, each of whom is a more accomplished actor than Rourke.

Who knows if he'll have time to be in the film. Hes also rumored to be Stallone's Extendables, and he suppose to wrestle Chris Jericho at wrestlemania.

OMG... I can't believe you played the "Oscar Card" for greatness.

:facepalm

I didn't play it for "greatness." I played it for irony, as she was the one actor you chose not to include. Try to keep up.

Dude... he didn't claim "greatness"... he claimed that she is more accomplished. I am piping in because I agree, and think that you are out in left field.

What?

LOL... that has nothing to do with anything. You imply that she was somehow more accomplish because she has an Oscar. That is a weak view of things. Come on... be for real. This is not a pissing contest, just a difference in opinions.

How is someone who has won an Oscar 'less' accomplished. Thats a pretty great task, winning an Oscar. Can't wait till I'm an adult. I've been dreaming of winning an Oscar (for directing) since i was 7.

Well... accomplishments are fact based... she has an Oscar... they both have a Golden Globe, they both have a Saturn, she has a SAG. She currently is more accomplished.

This arguement has nothing to do with "opinion"... the "opinion" thing is you sliding back away from the arguement althogether... which was: DD said she is more accomplished, you disagreed, he stated a fact regarding accomplishments... now you are backing away from that.

Whatever... never mind me.

Dude... you don't want to win an Oscar... you would become less accomplished than you are now. [/snark]

Look, winning an Oscar does not mean that the actor/actress is accomplish. All it mean was for that year, the Academy rewarded his/her performance in line with their list of criteria. They have to give the to someone each year, regardless if it’s a year of bad performances, movies, scripts, directing, score, sfx etc.

Come on. You lack understanding in how it works and the reasoning behind it. Denzel Washington won for Training Day. What was so specially about his performance in Training Day. Nothing. It was a down year that year and his performance for that year was much better than the trash of that year. He was more accomplish in Philadelphia, Glory, A Soldier Story, X, etc. Come on.

She is not more accomplished than Downey & Rourke. Get real. Hell Halle Berry won for some BS film. I guess she's more accomplished than them too?

:facepalm

To win the Oscar, Paltrow beat out Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Fernanda Montenegro and Emily Watson.

Yeah, that really sounds like a "down year." Paltrow should be ashamed of winning. :whatever:

I think the fact that winning an Oscar is an accomplishment would make the actress accomplished. Not really in comparison to everybody else, but in her own right she is accomplished and respectable and her name lends as significant legitimacy as any of the other actors in Iron Man

I think you are confusing "accomplished" with "good" or "great." One is measurable by said actors accomplishments while the other is an opinion. Sam Rockwell is a fantastic actor, but he isnt the most accomplished.

Very well said.
