Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Some parts of it I dont like.
Whats the point of only one shoulder being protected when both arms have weapons?
Then there is the points that protrude from the forearm. While they look cool, the have no practical use. They would not work as a stabilizer in flight.
When this guy is making his armor/weapon I doubt he is thinking "this is gonna look so frikkin awesome!"

You make some very good points about the practicality of Whiplash's armor. The look actually reminds me of a gladiator and I'm hoping that perhaps Vanko sees himself as a warrior opposed to Stark's villiany from his pov.

The one side being armored might have something to do with Whiplash's fighting style. Maybe he's a disciplined fighter compared to Stark. With that look I can imagine he'd take a perpindicular stance with the armored side toward his opponent. This would also make him, along with his mobility, a smaller target for IM's mid to long range attacks. In this stance or style, Whippy could also use the trailing whip (the right whip) for deception and attack by his opponent not realizing his maximum striking distance.

But hey man, I'm just guessing how a fight between IM and Whiplash would go down I certainly don't know for sure.

Blackman,

No. It would be pretty stupid. Any unarmored flesh and he'll just get shot.

well look at the armor he has now....he practically wide open

and on that one he has his arm exposed if they really wanted to they could cover it up

wouldnt it be badass if this was the final armor for Whiplash

maybe lose the mask

I like the mask

Vega, I was waiting for someone to say that. I like the mask too. Better than Rourkes face.

Lately, I'm really thinking this could end up being EXTREMELY close to what we'll see in the movie. I remember way back in an interview with either JF or Rourke that one of them said the suit cosisted of actual armor, but that some skin was still exposed. Plus, Favs twittered (?) about seeing Rourke in full costume for the first time AFTER we saw that first pic of Whiplash. Also what would be the point of connecting Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash if the character was leaning more towards Whiplash, a relativelyt unpopular character compared to CM? Just my 2 cents.

My God, how many times do we have to say vega on one page?

Excellent news that Rourke will be in Iron Man 2, even better knowing that he will be playing Whiplash.

I love the character and Rourke is a brilliant choice.

I counted 55..... not including the "vega" of yours i quoted and the "vega" i just typed in reference to my quote and the "vega" in reference to the word i used in my quote about how many times we have to say the word "vega" and the "vega" used to describe the word you asked how many times we have to say it and the "vega" that i used to tell what word that you had a question about and the "vega" used to tell you what word that i used to tell that you had a question about and the "vega" used to tell you that i told you the word i used to tell you about the word you had a question about. BTW did you know if you add an 'N' to the end on "vega" it becomes VEGAN or if you add an "S" to "vega" becomes VEGAS. and to answer your question i think 70 "vega" should do...... maybe more

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but doesn't the mask on Whiplash make him look like Vega from Street Fighter?

You were just working on Iron Man 2 as Mickey Rourke’s lead stunt double. What’s it like to do stunts for Mickey Rourke?
I’ve doubled Mickey Rourke since 1996, with the exception of the movie The Wrestler. I was actually working on Avatar at the time so I wasn’t able to get away to do it. Mickey is one of the greatest guys not only to work with, but double for. He’s always on the side of saying, “Please, let the stuntman do it. If the stunt guy can do it better, let him do it.”
I’ve always made it a point to not just go up there and perform a stunt, but to try and emulate Mickey Rourke as much as possible. I think he loves that. I watch his idiosyncrasies — how he holds his hand up to his mouth, and how he places his right hand on his hip.

So you guys are a package deal.
Every time he’s done a movie, he says, “Garrett Warren is my stunt double and please try to work it out and hire him.” Iron Man 2 had a double-whip sequence, and I am a whip specialist. There’s not very many of us in Hollywood that do double-whips. On top of that you had Mickey Rourke saying, “Please get this guy.” So of course production and the stunt coordinator thought I was the perfect choice.

When you say “double-whip,” what does that mean exactly? What is required of his character? I saw the footage at Comic-Con, but it’s still not entirely clear to me how Whiplash reaps his damage.
Well, double-whip basically means that you have two whips in your hands. I had brought two whips with me that are made of kangaroo hide that are incredibly well made. You can perform all sorts of tricks and cracks with them. In the movie, you won’t see those whips. They’ll digitally replace it with other types of whips. I don’t know if I’m at liberty to say what the whips will look like, but they’re going to be these super whips that have an awful lot of power. They can cut through cars, they can do an awful lot of damage. And when the movie comes out, you’ll see that he doesn’t do just whip-cracks and grabbing people. He lays waste to an awful lot of vehicles and street pieces and other things.

So will it be you we’ll be seeing in a lot of these sequences?
[Laughs] Any time you see some stunt where someone might have gotten hurt, then yes. At one point, Whiplash had to get hit by a car, and Mickey did the lead up to the stunt, and I did the stunt where the car came in and hit me and took me to the fence. So yes, you’ll see a combination of Mickey and myself. And when it comes to the whip routine, I have to admit, Mickey Rourke did a really good job with the whips. However, the suit was very painful at times. It was this big metal piece that wasn’t very comfortable, so he didn’t always want to do the whip routines every take. So I’d go in and do the whip routines.

Does the suit covers the whole body, because in the footage I saw Whiplash is mostly shirtless?
It covers the whole body in metal rods, but you are shirtless [underneath]. That was the part that was hard. When you move, it was metal digging into skin, cutting your shoulders, wrists and back and so forth.

Can't wait to see him tear **** up with those whips.
