Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

That's the one thing the TV cartoon does well, reimagine the looks of the villains so they look better(except for Madame Masque & the Mandarin since they didn't need improving as much as guys like Whiplash did). I really don't like the idea of the Mandarin needing to run around in armor like some asian Iron Man copy.

That Whiplash is terrible. He has no back story or no character development. His design is cool yeah but, the fight didn't hold any meaning for me.

The show is getting a second season, so maybe he will be fleshed out.

The design and the equipment upgrades he later gets are pretty cool.

And seriously, considering the Whiplash from the comics is a loser with a gimp mask, and the one from the 90's series is a bigger loser with a crush and a green ponytail, you'd think THAT would be an improvement.

The character of Mark Scarlotti existed for years sans said Gimp Mask.

Why preytell should a new character who's basically a mix of both him and another (who's never wore a gimp mask) have to wear one again?

The new Iron Man looks pretty cool, and everything looks good except the villain, Whiplash. Am I the only person who thinks he is just lame? Idk, maybe Im just not a big enough fan to see how awesome he is or something. I think they could have chose a much better/interesting villain.

What I expect from a Iron Man villain is what I got from Obadiah Shane. He was just an old guy for most the flick, then he got a suit that was just an over sized suit from the very beginning. A good villain is much more then their appearance.

No, i was very disappointed when i saw the initial photos...however, when i saw the trailer i became a bit more interested....i think it will work within the context of the film....

But yeah; If i had MY way, since they are introducing Black Widow, i would have had Natasha and Hawkeye as the villains. Not to harp on the subject, but that would have been straight out of the comic:

I think it'll work out fine in the end for two reasons: Rourke and that movie Whiplash will have aspects of the Crimson Dynamo. Even the harness suit has grown on me since seeing the Comic Con footage and teaser trailer, and I would bet money that the presumption that Vanko will upgrade to a Crimson Dynamo-like suit of armor later on in the film is true.

Personally, I would've prefered it had they just done the Crimson Dynamo straight up or the Mark Scarlotti version of Whiplash. But I think taking aspects from both and combining them will work out fine.

Just a quick question, since I'm not a big IM fan.....but is Whiplash supposed to be a new character villian made up after Omega Red or something?

After seeing the recent trailer(s).....I have a feeling IM 2 may not be as good as the first film. But we'll see I guess.....

He's a villain from the comics, but aside from the name and whips, the movie version doesn't bear too much similarity with his comic book counterpart. In part because they're borrowing elements from another IM villain the Crimson Dynamo.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that IM2 wont live up to the original?

Just wasn't as pumped when seeing the first films trailers compared to IM 2 trailers and snippets of the story I have heard.

IM 2's story may wind up being a bit over the top with the new characters along with the narrative and overall flow of the story. Like I said, we'll see.

If I can remember correctly, Whiplash was around first. I think Omega Red first appeared in the early 90's.

As for my personal excitement level? I'm really pumped for this movie but there is a tiny part of my mind that has me thinking that I just might like the first film more. I think it's mainly because I'm a sucker for origin stories. That and the amount of characters in this film I hope don't take away too much screentime from the main character...Stark.
