There's infinite scenarios really...

What he said.

I'd love for Spielberg to give Supes a shot. He was originally interested in the original film, but once the time came, he was already busy with Close Encounters. I wonder if he'd even consider giving it a shot today...

Superman being a WB Character, I doubt that because of Dreamworks - but not exactly sure how that would work...

I've seen Brad Bird's name suggested a few times on here. I think that wouldn't be bad.

I'd like to see what he could do with a live-action film.

Not to be downright rude, but some of the ideas in this thread drive me nuts (and I seriously hope that WB doesn't take some of this to heart). This isn't a cartoon or a comic, but a film. Now, I could see saddling a comic guru like Johns or Loeb with a proven film scripter, but I wouldn't give them solo carte blanche. Timm is great...with simple-minded and unlayered cartoons, but the last thing I want is Superman film with the depth of Pirates of the Caribbean or JLU. Someone like Paul Haggis saddled with one of those writers would be acceptable, though. That way, the geeks could be pleased, but the characters wouldn't cheap lean-to's that are reminiscent of something Joel Schumacher would be directing.

GREAT POST. I feel the exact same way.:up: Supes in live action deserves better than that.

geoff johns. geoff johns. geoff johns.

I would've prefer Geoff Johns not to do it alone. It best to have one comic book writer work with another writer who is experience with film script. I would pair Geoff Johns with Christopher McQuarrie. Heck, maybe have Paul Dini join the fun with those two as the third writer. :)

Johnathan Nolan to write the script. And Shymalan for the director

M.Night for Supes smells like Ang Lee for Hulk, only moreso. Shyamalan need to get his s*** together and make another good movie. And since I'm not crazy about his Avatar movie...excuse me, "The Last Airbender," he's not up there on my list.

Haggis is a f**king hack. How that man won an Oscar is beyond me.

Hack is kind of a strong word, but I really dont see anything special about what he's done. I'd rather he not get involved with Supes.

Why do you think a horror movie director would be a good choice for Supes?
Another question is, why is the uber dark completely unoptimistic J-Nolan a good choice for Superman? He's a fine writer but I don't want a dark and scary Superman movie with a moody Superman included.

I know how strong a word hack is.

I'm being nice calling him a Hack after that schmalzy crapfest know as "Crash."

Geoff Johns was put on this earth to write Superman! He gets the character to a T! He has without a doubt been the driving forced behind DC comics for the last several years. He can do this no problem! The Last Son, Legion ,and Brainiac arcs alone would make epic films. I say wait until Johns finishes up Superman Secret Origin and just adapt that as the Reboot!:supes:

I know a few people said this about themselves but...well...I want to write it. Actually, I have been working on a treatment and screenplay for a while now. I finished the initial draft and now am doing major rewrites.

I really don't care who writes it as long as they keep the following things in mind:

1-Superman is disguise, but less of one than "Metropolis" Clark Kent
2-Superman and Clark are emotional characters, who should develop and grow, thus creating interest. Perhaps he feels isolated from humanity, struggles with his role, desires to know more about his Kryptonian roots, wants a family, ect. They are NOT plot points for other characters to react too.
3-Superman, however, is not emo.
4-Superman does two things really well. Fight off alien invasions and mad scientists. All should be on large scale.
5-Follow the process of the Nolans (though not the tone). Look at and draw from the comics books as much as possible.
6-Superman is NOT EFFING EMO (Damn you Smallville!!!!)
7-Superman does talk. In fact, he should talk more than Batman.
8-Clark should blend in to the background more than stick out for being a klutz.
9-Lois should (ultimately) fall for Clark, not Superman.
10-Give him at least someTHING for him to fight (be it a villain or Lex Luthor in an exosuit!)

well, in regards to geoff johns, he got his start working in hollywood (with richard donner no less). he knows how it works, he knows the standards, and he knows the expectations of hollywood. he's worked on films and knows how writing scripts is different from writing comics. if it were another comic book writer, i'd agree with this. but im confident that johns could go it alone.

Tony Girloy, hoping he'll do a better job than his brother.
Even if I have to admit that the much maligned Dan Girloy "Superman Lives" script was a better than I expected based on the internet reviews.

No thanks. Nolan would never do it, along with that he usually write story that are dark. His work doesn't fit Supes.

And M. Night is not a good director like he once was, so pass as well. His only great films were The Sixth Sense & Unbreakable. The rest are terrible.

Ummm....who is Haggis? I might have skip something there. :o
