Another question is, why is the uber dark completely unoptimistic J-Nolan a good choice for Superman? He's a fine writer but I don't want a dark and scary Superman movie with a moody Superman included.

Because a guy does The Dark Knight and Terminator Salvation doesn't mean he can't do a completely different film.

I mean come on - the guy that brought us Planet Terror and Sin City made Shark Boy and Lava Girl IN 3D.

I know how strong a word hack is.

I'm being nice calling him a Hack after that schmalzy crapfest know as "Crash."

Its okay to not like a movie, but calling him a hack for writing an Oscar Award Winning movie doesn't help your credibility.

No thanks. Nolan would never do it, along with that he usually write story that are dark. His work doesn't fit Supes.

Chris Nolan would never do it and Chris Nolan tends to make movies that are dark. Jonah Nolan has only written two films and thus does usually do anything.

Jonah Nolan is suppose to be the bigger comic fan of the two Nolans. He is also the more American of the two.

And M. Night is not a good director like he once was, so pass as well. His only great films were The Sixth Sense & Unbreakable. The rest are terrible.

M. Night was never a good writer. He is a writer that relies on a gimmick (not that there is anything wrong with a story that relies on a gimick, it only becomes a problem when thats your own catch and people then start to expect it) the gimmick was good in his earlier films, but the guy has shot his wad.

You can throw a tomato in downtown Hollywood and find a writer better suited for Superman than Night.

Why do you think a horror movie director would be a good choice for Supes?

horror movie director? b-movie director is more like it...the dude is wayyyyyyyyy overhyped and is finally coming back down to earth as he should....the only movie he did that was somewhat interesting was unbreakable..as for the others?

-the village..stupid...a town that never sees an airplane or anything of technology? really? seriously? yeh he "explains" that in a sentence..but seriously?

-signs? aliens travel billions of miles to take over the earth..except they forget to do their research THAT WATER HURTS THEM..AND THE PLANET THEY PLAN TO OVERTAKE IS 75% WATER AND THAT THERE IS MOISTURE IN THE AIR AND IT RAINS REGULARLY

-and then that last one...where some giant eagle swoops down to save some stupid fairy....i was there opening night cuz of my dumb gf, but i kid you niot when the audience laughed during the big "finale"

shamalayaninyanhishinyanlin is the very definition of a hack

also, he would be kryptonite personified to a superman franchise...trying to add some stupid, lame twist to the end......c'mon...thats his thing, and he would try to "shock" people

Mark Millar. I like his idea for superman, it's fresh and isn't too hung up about being 'true' to every superman comic in existence for continuity's sake. Plus it actually sounds really good.

Was he the guy that wanted to make a triolgy and end it with an old Superman and our sun going supernova?

Yep, the one and only.

I remember reading that about that idea. At first is sounded great, but when I got the end I hated the idea. Plus, I don't really care for Wanted, I hated both the comic and the film.

Fair enough. I think Millar is one of those writers that people either love or hate. But I think he offers the kind of fresh ideas the superman francise desperately needs. We shall see what the future holds though. Hope WB hurry up and make up their minds soon, because I'd love to see another Superman film irrespective of whether it's a direct sequel or a reimagined reboot. I would prefer the latter scenario with Millar at the helm though.

True, he does have fresh idea. I really want to see another film too! Here's to hoping they get thier act together! :woot:

Ever since I heard of the reboot, I've been wondering: where would you start the story? Would you start on Krypton, like the original film? In Smallville, like the TV show? Or would you skip all that and start the movie in Metropolis?

Basically, the opening credits would be the Kents finding Clark and then the first 30 mins would be:

I'd start the movie with Clark around the world, pre-Superman days, solving some war problems or something in a nice action sequence. The movie needs to grab your atention in the first 5 minutes.

Then he would go back to Smallville, have some flashbacks of his childhood and him discovering powers and then, form the Superman identity and go for his first big public appearence in Metropolis.

I would only show Krypton later in the movie because i like the idea of Clark finding the truth through Brainiac.

Basically the central theme of the movie would be search for "identity".

You have to estabilsh the characters and his motivations before showing Superman in full glory, especially if this is a reboot. There needs to have some kind of antecipation for Supes. You shouldn't show the crown jewel in the first second. Of course it shouldn't be as slow as Superman the movie but the way Batman Begins did was good. It had action and great scenes before showing Batman.

That's why Clark using his powers around the world, before donning the costume, works to begin the movie better than showing Superman in full glory. You show some nice display of powers At least to me.

Morover, The action in the movie should be escalated. If you show Superman in the first 2 mins, it is not going to work like that and be like X-men 2 and Superman Returns in wich the first action sequence is the best in the movie.

However, If you start the movie with something like "Guardian Angel stops Terrorist faction in Kaznia", people would get curious and hooked.

Superman established doesn't mean to show him immediately. Nor it means to have your best action scene at the beginning.

How about we get a director who is going to show his own vision, and not copy off of what's done? A homage here or there is cool, but why base your movie exactly on an origin story already done thirty years ago? I want a totally new franchise with a new take on it, and that includes a new FOS design, and a new look for Krypton.

We should begin in Africa amidst some kinda political war; with a Journalist Clark Kent (Pre-Superman) traveling the world and saving civilians in secret. Birthright-inspired.

A very similar starting point to Batman Begins.

The Donner films started off on Krypton.

"Lois and Clark" started off in Metropolis.

"Smallville" started off in Smallville.

This would be something new and fresh.

I would say in Africa or some part of the world where we see Clark traveling the world helping others out and all. Much like Batman Begins where when he makes the choice to become Superman he returns to Smallville to talk it over with his parents then heads for Metropolis.

I'd start in Metropolis, with an already established Superman.

If I start out in Metropolis I want it to start out with similar to Abrams Superman. Where it starts out with Superman fighting then we revert to flashbacks to see how we got to this point. And before you guys jump on me I am not saying we see Abram's Superman although after reading the script review for the second draft and talking to others who read the third draft I do wonder how that movie would have done.

i agree, a non linear story

An opening akin to the origin recap that occurs at the beginning of every episode of "The Adventures of Superman" is my cup of tea.

"More powerful than a locomotive..........yada, yada......."

The film doesn't need to begin in Metropolis or even with scenes involving Superman or any of the main cast of characters, but it would begin in a world with an established Man of steel.
