Premier League: Is no fans at games behind the goal rush?
What is behind Premier League goal rush?A

I would say its more an absence of brain cell's in some defenders heads, looking at you Harry Maguire.

Also we seem to be getting two penalties a game for rediculous hand ball decisions. If you give out pens like confeti then your going to get more goals. I honestly cant remember two United games in a row when we didnt get a penalty. :funny:

The thing is some of the margins that the big teams have lost by would even make 2 goals scored by penalties not that meaningful. :hehe:

I don't know if it's strictly behind the goal rush, but having no spectators in attendance is a big deal overall I think.

Home field advantage isn't really a thing without the fans to flood the atmosphere providing things like intimidation & pressure to away teams as well as providing expectation for the home side.

I believe it was Bielsa had the perfect answer for the question when he was asked about nerves playing away to Liverpool on the opening day & his answer was along the lines of "No, because Anfield is only Anfield when it's full."

Yeah definitely true. I’m sure away results have been much better than usual since this started. The only advantage is familiarity with your home ground and facilities but it’s nothing compared to having your own home crowd cheering and encouraging you on vs the intimidation of an away crowd. Also as a result, this is likely to affect the bigger clubs at home more.

Exactly and just having more goals does not make it necessarily better, it can be a bit of farce if the value of goals is cheapened and we end up with penalties almost every game they will lose their meaning. There's a reason I play PES and not FIFA because working hard to score 1 goal can be much more worthwhile than an arcade style basketball game where every game ends 6-5.

However I am sure things will settle down as they often do in time, maybe when crowds come back maybe after that, we always have some "thing" at the start of the season which is different or a rash of red cards for a particular offence and then they change the rules again, no doubt this handball thing will be looked at as its getting silly for one.

I think most football fans seem to agree on the penalty roles. It was much simpler before where it was mainly a case of judging intent and result/consequence.

Also there are often more goals scored in lower league football where teams can’t defend as well or kid’s football where the variety in standards of players is much wider but that doesn’t make it more entertaining than normal PL football.

Utd better beat us. Otherwise they could be in for a world of hurt with Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton to follow, all interspersed with big CL games.

Do me a favor Iceman. Destroy us.
Haha. If we win, I can’t see Ole surviving that run of games. 7 games in and with hardly any points. Also not sure how this defence is going to do against the likes of PSG and co in the CL.

Rashford through the middle, James and Greenwood on the flanks I would assume.

Oof when you say it out loud it sounds even worse. At least its only for a couple games fingers crossed. James very nearly went last week as well to Leeds. Tough times indeed.

Newcastle away will be extremely tough anyway, they are flying at the moment and on a high so a draw seems like a big ask at this point in time. We shall see what returns after the international break and in what state.

Call me pessimistic (or maybe optimistic) but I fear Ole will start to pick up points with the team and we will ride that fine line of technically being in the race for the top4 spots but also disappointing enough we're nowhere near challenging for the title. Yet the "top4 within limit" will buy him more time than he deserves and we probably won't see a change until spring at the earliest when maybe everything has gone down the ****ter and we have 5-10 games left.

As much as we are tired of Ole I can imagine he's the dream manager for the owners. You get someone who isn't putting much pressure on them in terms of signings and he's also a useful shield between themselves and the fans. The moment they fire him and get a replacement, all the eyes will be on them to invest, and they actually have to get their hands dirty.

Ole seems like a lovely bloke, but surely it's only a matter of time before Pochettino takes over. Wasn't he Sir Alex's original preferred choice to succeed him before José.

Possibly, but then Sir Alex recommended Moyes so his judgement of a manager is questionable at the best of times. I dont see how Poch does a lot better anyway if we cant get in the players the manager wants, we would probably just end up ruining him as well. We are stuck in a cycle at the moment unfortunately.
