The Onion A.V. Club picks its top 50 films of the decade

Silly Onion -- don't they know the decade ends 12/13/2010..? Or do they honestly think that there won't be any good movie in 2010..?

Nah, 2010 marks a new decade. 2010 to 2019. New millenium, the teen years!

Yeah...if it was 2000-2010 that would be 11 years.

I like the movie scene idea...and I have to say I really agree with the Up life montage scene...just watching it again makes me sad.

Damn, Idiocracy almost made the list. That would've been epic.

Once again TDK haters bring it up for no reason. :whatever:

A few assorted thoughts:

-I'm surprised The Departed wasn't in the top 50 or on any of the "almost" lists. It would be in my top 10 (but these things can always change--I haven't seen every movie on the list).

Because the original is far better.

I do agree I was more affected by the end battle in TTT. I mean from the moment Aragorn looks out the window and sees the light shining in with Gandalf's "Look to my coming..." line until the very end is what makes me love movies. If you were to ask me, that would be it. To me, it's something like that that have made films last this long.
My sentiments exactly good sir.

On the Lord of the Rings movies, I like all of them for different reasons.

The Fellowship of the Ring is Gandalf's movie.
The Two Towers is Aragorn's.
Return of the King is Sam's.

That's how I see them. Also, TDK would've been brought up in this thread one way or another.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with bringing TDK up in this thread. Alot of people think it's the best thing ever so why wouldn't it be?

It's getting annoying because the people that bring it up are either overzealous and obsessive to the point of pissing everyone off or feel the need to constantly bring it down because of the first group.

I love the hell out of TDK, but both groups really need to do everyone a favor and ****.

What you say is true. I try not to but I find myself apart of the latter group...and I also loved the movie.

Personally I'd put the The Prestige and Memento over TDK like they did but I'd put The Prestige over Memento.

I'm obsessed with The Prestige.

Just my two cents.

Gah, I've yet to see Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, Squid and the Whale, Mullholland Dr., Almost Famous, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Grizzly Man, Before Sunset, Waking Life, Punch Drunk Love, AI, Gerry, City of God, and Adaption.

The Prestige is just a fantastic movie.... Both Bale and Jackman were amazing.

I actually got Memento on DVD a few months ago, but have yet to watch it, I dont know whats wrong with me...

I've only seen Eternal Sunshine and the Grizzly Man movie. I'd recommend Grizzly Man.

With the exception of A.I, I've never seen those movies either.

A.I would enter my top 50 list the same time any of the Twilight movies would....never, in a million years.

I had so many high hopes for that flick and found it to be a huge disappointment on every level.

THIS. So hard. Both groups annoy me to no end.

DV you're in high school right? Sorry if I'm mistaken. I only ask because I think Almost Famous is an absolutely necessary film to see in high school. It isn't technically a "high school" film in the way say, Dazed and Confused is, but it's insights about growing up and finding your place in the world are just wonderful. It's really about being a fan to, and what it means to be a nerd, or anyone else who is looking from the outside in. The quote in my sig is from the film, and it really resonates with me even now.

Kill yourself.

Don't worry, I already have the razor.

I've always wanted to see Grizzly Man, but just never got around to it. It's directed by Werner Herzog so if I don't see it soon, some lightning bolt will probably strike me dead.

Yeah, I'm a sophomore. Speaking of films you can connect to at a certain age, one of the reasons why I love Gus Van Sant's Elephant is because I could connect with it more now than probably any other moment in my life, past or future. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out as soon as I can.

It's very good, more about the man then the bears. He was a crazy f*** too, but admirable in his own way.

I need to see Elephant. And don't worry about not seeing those films yet, you have tons of time to see them! You'd really like Adaptation too I think.

That list actually inspired me to rent American Psycho and Before Sunset. Haven't watched Before Sunset yet, but I watched American Psycho last night. It was really not at all what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be more of a straight up thriller, but it was funny and disturbing. A very interesting deconstruction of the American privileged male. Patrick Bateman is almost the anti-Tyler Durden when you think about it.

Yeah, American Psycho is an...interesting take on the yuppie life. I really need to re-watch a lot of films, including American Psycho. My opinion pre-2009 is pretty much irrelevant these days.:o

As for Adaption, I've yet to see any Spike Jonze film, it's pathetic. I couldn't see Where the Wild Things Are because I was on medication for my broken hand and it put me in a depressed state for its theatrical release.:csad:

Watch it. Now.
