Almost every time I see a poll it seems to need the "other" option, and doesn't have it. Why, (especially when we have 40 options)?

Is the world really such an either or place to people. Are there only a few of us who truly need more?

Even questions that seem to have really simple responses should allow for the "other" option. Example: Do you like cheese? Yes / No
In my case the answer is neither yes nor no. Yes, I like melted cheese. No I do not like cold cheddar, but I don't mind cold swiss. And don't even bother trying to feed me a stinky cheese or a soft cheese, I won't touch it.

Then you get the polls where the user thinks they've listed every possible option but they neglected something. Easily solved with the "other" option.

Granted there may be a few exceptions, rating polls would be one: Greatest Movie Yet, Greatest Superhero Movie Yet, Great, Good, Poor, Bad, Worst Superhero Movie Yet, Worst Movie Yet. However, even in this kind of poll you could add the "Other" option, for "So Bad It's Good".

So folks, what do you think? Do you want the "Other" option?

By the way, the poll is multiple choice and Public too.

I think all polls need an other option because I've found I just can't stand strictly behind a lot of the alternate poll options in most of the polls I vote in.

This thread needs more poll:

Yes.

No.

Clam Chowder.

Other.

Other: Clam Chowder is my choice.

I believe that, in response to the question: "Should we have an other?", I will always respond, "Clam Chowder".

New England or Manhattan?

P.S. I can make a mean Manhattan Style Clam Chowder from scratch.

I prefer Manhattan style but I can't find a good formula for it or any place around here that sells it.

Would you mind PMing me with that recipe? I've been craving Manhattan Clam Chowder for months and New England isn't doing it for me!

Instead of the "other" option, I use all 40 slots so that there is no need for that option.

Anyone who complains is just being a pain in the ass.

There should always be an Other option, as no poll maker can think of every possible answer.

New England is just way too creamy for my taste. It makes me think of all those times my mother forced us to eat Chipped Cod Fish on toast or no dessert.

As far as that Manhattan style clam chowder, I made it based on a recipe I found in my mother's old Good Housekeeping cookbook. One of these days I'm going to have to jot down the recipe for you if I can get my hands on that thing.

Thanks!

I prefer Manhattan as well even though I don't mind creamy soups most resturants and all cans just don't do it any justice at all.

You're that black dude I keep hearing about.

The "Other" option serves the same purpose as the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. It's a fail-safe for the framers of the poll and document, respectively, who clearly say, "we're fully aware that we haven't thought of everything, so we're giving the people in question the power to add options as they see fit." The "Other" option is vital, since nobody can think of everything.

Even Yes/No questions?

Give me a simple Yes / No question and I'll bet I can figure out an "other" option that is not covered by Yes or No.

Do you like sex? Yes, with the right partner. No with a creepazoid.

This thread seems like it’s straight out of a Seinfeld episode.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Do you *********e?

Yes with my left hand
No with my left hand

The list goes on.
