I'm going to Netflix this one and wait for PA5 to come out (whenever that is) to see it in theaters.

I actually think that The Marked Ones looks pretty good. Although I am fearful, unless they have pulled a PA3 and 85% of the trailer isn't in the actual film, that the trailer has basically given away the entirety of the movie.

I am open to the idea of a spinoff, if for no other reason, because of how immensely disappointed I was with PA4. The writers basically gave us a filler movie. None of what we saw from PA4 had not already been established by PA3. The plot was not moved forward at all. I am perfectly fine with a spinoff that uses the formula/backstory for some cheap scares if PA5 actually advances the plot.

I saw this last week, but I can't say much because of embargo. However, I'll say that I've been a fan of the series since the beginning and I thought part 4 was pretty bad. I feel like the Marked Ones is a big improvement and does some really unique things.

Sounds good, and nice to see Ali back.

If you don't mind answering me, does it tie into the past films well or is it a stand alone film?

I'm still shocked at how many people hate part 4. That ending where the girl
gets out of the house and there is a small army of witches waiting for her outside was one of the better moments out of the entire series.
It was a bit of a surprise and fairly creepy.

I don't know if it's just people wanting jump scares over and over again or what.

Honestly, that was the only part of that film that I really liked. The rest of it just felt like "more of the same" to me.

As for your question

Without giving away too much, there are connections to previous films. When they announced that it was a spin-off I think people took that to mean it would be a throwaway story. However, it actually does tie into the overarching plot and adds some depth to the coven.

There's some insane **** in this movie and I can't wait to see how you guys react to it. People are either going to really love it or really hate it.

The trailer looks cool and I heard good things from some friends who got into a advanced screening on December 13th. The best part of seeing these movies is opening night with a packed/ sold out crowd. I tell you paranormal activity 2, 3 and 4 opening night with a sold out crowd was some of the funniest times I had at the movies.

It really was. It reminds me of when I saw PA2 and they started flipping the theater lights on and off during the end credits. :oldrazz:

Haha, did the theater manager also stand outside the doors yelling "Ooooooooo!" with a flashlight under his face?

After the showing of paranormal activity 3 there was some movie theater worker chicks dressed like witches and jumping out and scaring everyone as they left. They got me good and if you seen paranormal activity 3 it made sense.

There were some well-placed expletives from the audience. :funny:

For our "Marked Ones" screening a guy dressed as a monk stood in front of the theater and said "I feel that I need to pray for your souls before you watch this movie!" And then he delivered some prayer for our mortal souls.

However, the worst part was that the guy then delivered the same prayer in Spanish and you could tell it was his first time speaking the language. So he pulled out an index card and stuttered his way through the Spanish version of the prayer. It was pretty embarrassing and totally killed the ominous mood he was trying to set.

Oh, that's bad. At least get a guy who speaks Spanish.

My mom told me when she and my dad saw The Exorcist back when it first came out, there was a woman on line for the next show after theirs asking how it was, because apparently she was there "with my coven," and wanted to know if it was good or not. :wow:

She told her the movie was good, and walked away as politely as she could. But she loves telling people there was apparently a witches coven at her theater. :funny:

So for those who have seen it, was my speculation right?

Not too thrilled at how...lazy...this one looks. I know the series was founded in its low budget found footage roots, but they always had a well put together feel and look to them. This just doesn't have that flair to get me excited, even more so that I'm willing to bet with 99% certainty that trailer's final shot will be the movie's closing shot. Won't have any mentions of what happened to the girls after the coven took them in the 80s for the whole movie then somehow they'll leave you hanging on why they're still young in demonic form (even though they grew up to be possessed/kill in 1&2) and the grandma looks like a living corpse and than bam, basement slams shut.

So for those who have seen it, was my speculation right?

Nah, if anything the little girls in the movie are...

just spirits/ghosts/demons ****ing with the guy. Why they appear in that form is anyone's guess, maybe demons just really really like little girls.

I have another guess why they appear in that form, but I don't want to say lol.

Many reviews I read said this movie feels like PA5 and is very much canon and connects to the main story seen in the previous movies.

I am trying decide if I want see this tonight at 10pm or tommorow night. It's cold and raining now which kinda puts me in the mood lol and the theater is only like 6 mins away from my house.mmmmmmmmm these movie are definitely better with a crowd of people, not sure if it will be packed tonight but tommorow is a given in my area.
