some of my newest work.this may sound bitter i entered the last image into a competition and it was award 6/15 from two judges averages. i kow it may sound pompous but that image is better than that damn score, i'm not saying its perfect but below 50%:csad:

I also have anther image in this set sadly cant post it here as it was from a full frontal shoot. i'd love to get some feedback on it if anyone wants to go to my flickr page. just click any of the above images

I agree, Dean, much better than 50%. Going through judging in competitions and shows just sucks the soul out of you sometimes, doesn't it? So you've shot Ivory Flame? (I don't know her real name...) I've seen photos of her before. Lovely gal.

I shoot botanical stuff and anything in nature. If anyone's interested, I have links to my Flickr, Facebook, and Tumblr in the FAQ part of my website. www.aarongrabiak.com :)

This is the second time I've been here, the first time I didn't make it into the main buildings. I was able to sneak in easier due to homeless population living in there over the winter... it was called Harris Machinery, looks like they were in business from the early 80's to 2012 and left everything behind.

Been a while since I've posted in this thread, but we had some hummingbirds in our backyard yesterday and they were tolerant enough to let me take some pretty decent pictures so I thought I'd share just a couple (I've posted more on my tumblr). We're pretty sure that these are Black Chinned Hummingbirds (most of them females and/or juveniles... I did get 1 pic of the male). Taken with my Nikon D3000 with 55-200mm Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor lens

Ok so I need a bit of help with Photographer/Artist Rights.

Basically, for the past year, my girlfriend has helped model for me for pictures as I build my portfolio. Sometimes we set up a whole shoot, other times I just snap pictures while we are out in a cool location. I usually post these photos, along with others that I take, on various sites like Facebook, Flickr, etc and I use my logo, which is very visible on the side.

About 6 months ago, she started singing for a small record label and I noticed that they used photos of mine in promotional videos and stuff. Some of them didn't have my logo because she had put up the proofs on Facebook. So after this, I spoke to her and she took them down and only posted photos with the logo on it, because a fan had printed out a photo and used it to get her autograph.

Now, she spoke to her agent and he agreed to give me credit whenever he uses my images in a video, and he has. However, he requested to my girlfriend that she get and give him the original file of a photo so that he could use it as an album cover that he is planning to sell. Obviously, I spoke up and told her, even in conversations prior to this, that I would need to be paid for the photos if they are planning to make money off of them. But now, when I told her that I was writing up a contract, his response was "F--- it, I'll get someone else," and she is upset because I should be giving them away for free.

Now, I understand that I can do the favor to her, as my girlfriend. However, that doesn't change the fact that he''s been going on her facebook and mine to take photos, with my logo, and has used them without permission. She is going to speak to him today about it, but I'm concerned that he will try to make it so that I can never take a photo of her because by doing so, that's me trying to make money off of her. I also don't know if I should try to take legal action in the event that he does not respect my request.

I just don't think it's fair or legal that he is trying to profit over work that he took off of someone's page. And after checking Facebook's copyright agreements, that is in fact illegal, and I still want to sign a contract in the event that he violates the agreement we make, regardless of whether or not there is a payment made.

Although I can't say this has ever happened to me, but I think you have a solid case if he does stand to make profit from using your work. So did he ever sign any of the contracts you created?

No, my girlfriend had told me she was going to talk to him about it, but she was clearly too scared to bring it up to either of us, or she didn't want to ask for it herself, but instead of her talking to him, we have a conference call that resulted in him trying to make me seem like I was trying to profit off of my girlfriend, that I was refusing to do her a favor like she did for me, and that I should be paying her for modeling. He even has her convinced that my photos are part of public domain so they should be free. He then hung up on me when I told him I have the rights to the photo and the copyrights belong to me.

Needless to say, my relationship took a huge hit because she was quiet through all of this and actually sided with him.

And it turns out he didn't just want one photo, he wanted several to choose from, but he wanted to me to send him all the files. He won't be using my photos. Before all of this, I spoke to my old professor who has 20 years of experience and he told me I could order a Cease and Desist if he does use them, however it would be pointless because I'd be paying more for legal fees if anything.

So I was at NYCC this past weekend, and typically I go there to photograph cosplayers, and getting out of there and comparing photos that I took with those of other, more established photographers in the community, I feel like I've reached a ceiling and I don't know what to do next.

I'll post some pics once I get home and stuff, but I'm wondering if I need a better camera, and if so, which one? I'm currently using a Canon EOS Rebel T3, which is definitely outdated, but I typically use and rely on my Canon EF f/1.8 50 mm lens to get a good blur in the background of portraits. But I feel like I have so much more to learn and grow, especially using flash in my photos, which I never use.

So does anyone have any recommendation or tips? Possible a decent, affordable camera upgrade to look into, or tips on how to use flash, or any tips in general?

By me. :)

@the__ultimate__evil : I agree it's not less than 50%, but the posing with her left arm does pull you away from the photo. She feels incomplete. The rest of the composition is divine though, I would've given it a much higher score.

Awesome stuff here!

I do some photos occasionally of some of my toys as a kind of mash up of my two favourite hobbies.

Here are some of the pics I took, I like some, but I still feel like they could all be better.
